2. Angle Towers (D2, D6, D9)
]111
The assumed maximum working loadings shall be derived from the angle of line deviation,
conductor tensions, design spans and conductor and earth wire spacings. The assumed maximum
simultaneous working loadings for intact condition shall be as follows:
(a) Veliical loadings - Self weight of tower, insulators, other fittings, and the maximum dead
weight of conductor and earth wire supported.
(b) Transverse Loadings - Wind loads on tower, earth wire, conductor and other fittings
(calculated in accordance with clause 7.2.5 for a basic wind pressure of 981 N/sq.m. for (1)
wind in transverse direction
(c) Transverse horizontal components of relevant Inaximum conductor and earth wire tension for
the two separate conditions: (1) Minimum line deviation and (2) for maximum line deviation.
(d) Longitudinal loads resulting from unbalanced wire (conductor and earth wire) tensions on
either side of the tower, up to a maximum of 15% of the highest conductor tension
permissible.
(e) Construction and maintenance loads
The assumed maximum simultaneous working loadings for broken wire condition (any two phase
conductors - four sub conductors - or earth wire and any two sub conductors in one phase broken
simultaneously) shall be as follows:
(a) Vertical loadings - Self-weight of tower, insulators, other fittings, and the maximum dead
weight of conductor and earth wire supported (intact wires only and a certain percentage of
broken wires).
(b) Transverse Loadings - Wind loads on tower, conductor (intact wires and a certain percentage
of broken wires) and other fittings calculated in accordance with clause 7.2.5 for a basic wind
pressure of 981 N/sq.m. for wind in transverse direction.
(c) Transverse horizontal components of relevant maximum conductor and earth wire tension
(for intact wires) for the two separate conditions: (1) Minimum line deviation and (2)
Maximum line deviation
(d) Longitudinal loads resulting from unbalanced wire (conductor and earth wire) tensions on
either side of the tower, up to a maximum of 150/0 of the highest conductor tension
permissible. (Intact wires only.)
(e) Longitudinal horizontal components of maximum conductor and earthwire tension due to
broken wire conditions (any two phase conductors - four sub conductors - or earth wire and
any two sub conductors in one phase broken simultaneously)
The factor of safety for intact condition shall be 2.5 and for broken wire conditions shall be 1.5.
