Proposal and Public Service Announcement

RHET 1312

This project consists of two parts: a proposal, to be written individually, and a public service announcement, to be created collaboratively. PART 1: PROPOSAL You will construct a thorough outline for a proposal speech regarding a community issue related to UALR. Feel free to use your community issue from project two, but you must make it relevant to UALR. You will need to submit your proposal outline and give your speech on Thursday, October 17th during class. Your job is to creatively convince your classmates to support your community issue. Your speech should introduce and provide background on the problem, provide a solution, and justify your solution. See question three on page 323 in TWA if you are having trouble generating this information. See pages 341-343 in TWA for an example. Other requirements: Your outline should be at least one page, typed, 12 point font and formatted accordingly. (p. 341) Your speech should be 2-3 minutes and should not include any digital visuals. You must submit your outline in order to give your speech. This portion of project three is worth 40 points.

After all of the speeches, the class will choose the most convincing speeches. These topics will be used to create the group Public Service Announcement. PART 2: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT Your group will create a public service announcement to be broadcasted to the UALR campus. The PSA will be in the form of a video. You will assign roles, answer the seven sacred questions, draft a plan, and write a script using Ciceros six part structure. Other requirements: Your video must be no longer than one minute. Your video must include a credits/works cited page. This portion of project three is worth 110 points.

By the end of this assignment, you should be able to do the following: Write in several genres Understand the relationships among language, knowledge, and power Integrate your own ideas with those of others Develop flexible strategies for generating, revising, editing, and proof-reading Use a variety of technologies to address a range of audiences Learn to balance relying on others with the responsibility of doing your part Understand and exploit the differences in the rhetorical strategies and in the affordances available for both print and electronic composing processes and texts
