Hello Friends of Bronco Gymnastics! We are pleased to announce our rst issue of our Bronco Gymnastics e-Newsletter. We hope this nds that you are enjoying a warm and happy Thanksgiving. To update you, much has happened since the end of last season. First, we have a new coaching sta!. Penny Jernigan, Head Coach: I come to WMU from the University of North Carolina with 18 years of coaching and national level judging experience. I coached the Tar Heels Courtney Bumpers who became a two time NCAA Champion and all-time record holder. I also coached all ve of UNC's East Atlantic Gymnastics League championship teams and 24 EAGL individual champions and four NCAA All-Americans. Last year I served as the NCAAs rst national rules interpreter for women's gymnastics. Ralph Rosso, Assistant Coach: Ralph served two years as the University of Arkansas gymnastics manager and in those two years the Razorbacks nished in the top 6 and top 10 in the country. Prior to Arkansas he served as the volunteer assistant coach for the University of Michigan mens gymnastics team. During his two years at Michigan, the sta! was instrumental in the development of the 2010 National Champions and saw the Wolverines produce three NCAA national champions, ve Big Ten champions and 18 All-Americans.

With the departure of the 2012-2013 senior class, the Broncos welcome eight new freshmen: Brittany Aragon (AA), Madison Bonoglio (UB, BB, FX), Anna Corbett (AA), Emilee Incammicia (V, UB, FX), Audry Merritt (V, UB, FX), Jessie Peszek (AA), Cassidy Robinson (UB, FX) and Lauren Vandenberg (AA). These young ladies arrive with large shoes to ll but Coach Rosso and I are condent that they are up for the challenge. We expect them to be an integral part in the continued success of this years team. Honors: This fall WMU Gymnastics has received much recognition from the university and from the NCAA. " For the academic year of 2012-2013, the Broncos nished second nationally with an average GPA of 3.8086. Five Broncos, Katlin Abbs, Michelle Adams, Kayla Weber, Lindsey Wienchowksi and Sarah Wright touted perfect 4.0 GPAs. " All seventeen members of the 2013 MAC Championship team earned spots on the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/ Women (NACGC/W) All-Academic team. " On September 28, Kaitlin Abbs, Brittany Adams, Jessi Buis, Shelby MacDonald, and Kayla Weber were recognized at the football game for becoming rst year letter winners. " November 23, WMU recognized the 2013 MAC Championship team during the football game against Central Michigan University.

Currently, we are working hard in the gym to achieve the Broncos rst back to back MAC Championship and to become the rst team to qualify to NCAA Regionals. Training is going well. We have been focusing on improving strength, exibility, endurance, basics and upgraded skill sets. Soon we will share behind-the-scenes training videos on Facebook.
