The Kansas City Star: Kansas City, Mo. (May 13 August 13) Worked as an intern on the metro desk pitching stories to the deputy metro editor and wrote deadline stories for the daily print and online editions. Produced eight front page stories. Also worked on a project with a team, in which I was designated to do research and pitch ideas. The Herald-Times: Bloomington, Ind. (June 12 July 12) Worked as a multimedia intern writing stories for the daily paper while also shooting, editing and producing videos to accompany many of them. In addition, I shot and edited photos to run with a few of the stories. I also attended news meetings and pitched story ideas to the editor and managing editor. Nation Media Group: Nairobi, Kenya (June 11 July 11 ) Worked as an intern on the news desk at The Daily Nation. Shadowed and helped political, court and general assignment reporters as well as TV crews report and write stories. The Northwest Missourian, Maryville, Mo. (Jan. 10 Present) Editor-in-Chief (April 11 Present) Oversaw production of a 4,000 circulation newspaper covering the campus and city. Managed a 22-person staff, meet with sales and management, as well as worked with the GMs of the student radio and TV stations. I continued to write stories of importance while representing the paper in the public arena. News Editor (April 10 April 11) Oversaw a three-person news staff. Wrote, edited and assigned stories for a three page news section. Covered the university administration beat and attended editorial planning meetings where I also helped brainstorm design and layout.
