INTRODUCTION

We, Diploma Computer Science students, need to do the final year project this semester. We need to think a project that is can use and very benefit for student in the Universiti Selangor (Unisel). Based on what we have studied, we decided to make a project about Secure and Convenience Locker for Unisel Student that can keep our stuff or books safely at the faculty. This locker is already used in our library but they are using old key, so we want to improve this locker key by using a student matric card as the key to open up the locker. The processing of this system is student scan their matric card the locker is open up, then they need to scan back their matric card, the locker is unlocked. This whole project we are using a PLC (Programmable Logic Control) to setup the locker system and CAD (Computer Aided Design) to design the new interface of the key. With the availability of this system, student are less worried about their stuff or book anymore because it is fully secure locker from stolen and lost.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

For the time being, lockers are only available in the library. This makes students difficult to store their belongings because the distance between library and faculty a little bit far.

In the library, the lockers use keys system. The percentage of item being stole increases when use this locker because the system is poor. Usually normal lockers use key to lock their locker. The risk of the key is missing increases. Usually, there is a person in charge of the lockers. This will cost more expenses to be paid.

OBJECTIVES

To develop a keys system using student matric card to avoid losing key. To develop an automatic locker system so that the locker can operate without supervises by officer and can cut cost of the expenses. To locate a strategic place to put the locker for students convenience. To avoid items being stolen by using more efficient security system.

SCOPE

It can help the student from bringing heavy and many stuff/books at the faculty that can may increase loses and stolen percentage. The system applies a new key by using a matric card as the key improve more secure to the locker. The locker can use now at the faculty instead at the library before, help the student to keep their stuff/ book. This system helps to cut the cost and energy to hire an officer to manage the locker if the old key system stills us using it.

METHODOLOGY

My research methodology required Rapid Application Development (RAD). This methodology developed to respond to the need to deliver systems very fast.By following RAD model, the team can deliver a prototype at a much early stage and the end users can examine this live system instead of working with documents.

Four phase of RAD : 1. Requirement Planning Task In requirement planning stage of RAD model, the requirements are identified. Users, managers and IT staff agree upon business needs, project scope and system requirements. 2. User Design Phase In this phase, the design work is done for the system, the design is reviewed, build models, prototypes and updated based on user feedback (interact with users). 3. Construction Phase In construction phase of RAD model, the code is developed with the design as the base. 4. Cutover Phase In construction phase of RAD model, the system is installed in client site and the user acceptance testing is performed. The users are also trained about the system.

SIGNIFICANCE

Improve the locker security system in a campus. By developing this system, it easier for students especially for student who take a bus and ride a motorcycle to keep their belongings such as helmet and books makes this system is more systematic.
