The benefits of revising the juvenile delinquency law Have you ever heard of recent crimes around us committed

by young adults? Is there an implementation of a law that could reduce this? Today, the age limit of a juvenile delinquent is set at 18 years old in most countries. However, in recent crime cases, it has come to a point where revisions must be made. The age limit of juvenile delinquency should be reduced from 18 to 16 for the following reasons: most of those who commit grave crimes belong to the age range of 16-18 years old, those who were victimized by 16 year olds will be given justice, and it will help in the reduction of crime rates. Just recently, it has been found out in recent cases that most of those who commit grave crimes belong to the age range of 16-18. Unlike before, our society has changed a lot which may have paved the way for maturity to speed up. Influences, both bad and good, make up a person because it can trigger the way a person thinks and the way that person makes a decision. Nowadays, what an 18 year old is capable of doing, a 16 year old can do as well. In fact, there are times that one cannot distinguish an 18 year old from a 16 year old because of the changes in our society. Through the reduction of the age limit, those who were victimized by 16 year olds will be given justice. With the implementation of this revision to a previous law, young criminals will learn how to take responsibility of their wrong actions. They will be punishable under the law such as being sentenced to life imprisonment and being placed under corrective actions. Those 16 year olds who are planning to commit a crime thinking that they will just undergo a few weeks of counselling and rehabilitation will be now made aware of the possible punishment and consequences that they may now face when this revision is pushed through. This way, it does not only serve justice to the victim, it will also help lessen the abuse made to the juvenile delinquency law. With this revision, it will help in the reduction of crime rates. In a recent crime case in India, they have found out that it was a 16 year old, who was the youngest, and who committed the gravest crime. In this situation, it can be brought out that as young as 16, a person has already the capacity to decide on the things he/she wants to do. Through corresponding punishments, these young criminals will be made open to the possible consequences they have to face. This implementation will help in the reduction of crime rates since the bigger majority who commits these crimes will be held liable for their actions. However, some people may think that 16 year olds are not yet capable of handling environmental situations as well as heavy punishments inside the prison which may lead to traumatic experiences. The fact that they have committed a grave crime can lead to psychological disturbances which may be at par with the situations they may feel inside the prison cell. Whether or not they were sentenced to imprisonment, the feeling or the traumatic experiences they may incur will be of equal weight. Conscience disturbance and depression may

also be felt in these kinds of situations. Thus, it would help if they would be punished because either way, they would feel the same thing, just in a different manner. For these reasons, the age limit of juvenile delinquency must be reduced. With this implementation, law offenders under 18 years old but over 15 years old will face the consequences of their actions. It would also eventually lead to serving justice to the majority who have been victimized and help lessen down crime rates. It would also teach these young criminals the right way of thinking which would lead to a more harmonious place. So if you think that a law must be revised for the better, make a change and help make an act that would ensure the safety of our fellow countrymen.
