Dissertation: Designing an Inclusive housing model in India: A perspective for the elderly.
This dissertation aimed to unfold the concern of housing the elderly in India where the intention of providing care homes for the elderly is not widely practiced, although there is a need to understand and develop sensitive solutions for the same. It generated indications which will help develop an inclusive model of housing for the elderly in India after careful consideration of what has been happening in other countries for many years. The dissertation was able to study the research aims in three broad ways: by understanding the need of the emerging problem in India and the nature of the user; by understanding extensively how the western nations confront the issue as they have been trying to evolve in terms of policies, provision of care facilities and built environments since many years; and lastly by building the understandings of the Indian user and the solutions sought by the western nations on the grounds of Indian context. The conclusions included the fragments of ideas that can be adopted, modified and imbibed as per local Indian cultures from the already established examples of the west and new ideas were discussed that are likely to be feasible in the Indian society.
