INTRODUCTION National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) is developing Phase 22-24 of the South Pars Field, located offshore, some 100 km South East of AKHTAR in the Persian Gulf, Iran which will allow a gas production of 2,000 MMSCFD. These phases of the development comprise four wellhead platforms, SPD 22, SPD 23, SPD 24A and SPD 24B, equipped with the required production facilities. Platform design capacity is 600 MMSCFD and platform normal production rate is 500 MMSCFD. The processed gas and condensate from SPD 24A and SPD 24B (satellite platforms) will be directed to SPD 22 and SPD 23 (main platforms) respectively via 18 and 20 infield pipelines. From each main platform, a 32" subsea pipeline will transfer the offshore gas production to the onshore gas treatment plant in AKHTAR.

The riser analysis covers the determination of maximum allowable span and in-place stress analysis to verify the proposed riser configurations. The spool analysis covers the determination of spool piece length to accommodate the pipe expansion due to temperature and pressure. For 20 and 18 riser, the model is extended up to the Hanger Flange. Topside section of the anchor flange should be analysed by platform designer and the result of forces on anchor flange should be added to the reported forces in this document. The riser dynamic span analysis is performed based on DNV RP F105 [Ref. 2]. 1.4 System of Units All dimensional data and results presented shall be expressed in the international system of units (SI). DESIGN DATA Unless otherwise stated, all design data and the limits of design for South Pars Phases 22, 23 & 24 are presented in the Basis of Design for Infield Pipelines [Ref. 5].

Riser Data The riser data used in the riser design is summarised in Table 2.1.1. The pipe dimensions are as per Offshore Pipe Wall Thickness Report for In-field Pipelines [Ref. 6] and the external and internal corrosion coating is as per the External Corrosion Coating Selection Report [Ref. 8] and Basis of Design for In-field Pipelines [Ref. 5]. Platform Displacement Platform displacements were taken from the Jacket in Place Static Analysis and Foundation Calculation Note Reports [Ref. 9], [Ref. 10], [Ref. 11], and [Ref. 12]. The platform displacements for Operational, Hydrotest and Seismic Cases for SPD 22 and SPD 24A are summarized in Appendix A. It assumes that platform displacements for SPD 22 and SPD 24A are the same in value with SPD 23 and SPD 24B, respectively.

Seismic Design Data Persian Gulf is one of the seismically active areas in the world and frequently suffers destructive and catastrophic earthquakes. The following preliminary information on the seismic aspect condition is given for the platform locations. The seismic design data is extracted from Infield Pipeline Basis of Design for South Pars Phases 17&18 [Ref. 3]. Platform Location: The peak ground horizontal accelerations and the associated return periods at the platform locations are summarized in Table 2.4.1.

As per DNV requirements in DNV Section 4 article C608 in Table 4.2, the 100-years earth quake load has to be used for the pipeline and riser design. The load of 0.1g has been implemented in the analysis.

Spool Piece Protection The doglegs will be installed without protection against dropped objects. Protection by mattresses is considered not required because the dogleg section has been coated with 90mm concrete.

Marine Growth The marine growth shall be considered as follows: 75mm for water depth in between +2m to -6m LAT 50mm for water depth from -6m LAT to seabed

The associate specific density is assumed to be maximal 1.4 times the density of the seawater.

2.7

Hydrodynamic Coefficients The basic hydrodynamic coefficients for calculating the wave and current loads to be used in the pipeline and riser design are given in Table 2.7.1. Note that the drag force coefficient CD is larger for sub-critical and critical flow regime, i.e. dependent on the Reynolds number R e and the current to wave velocity ratio M.

Modification of Hydrodynamic Coefficient For piggy-back section of the pipeline, the modified hydrodynamic coefficients were calculated taking into account the selected concrete coating thickness. Piggy-Back Pipeline The equivalent diameter used in the lift, drag and inertia forces calculation shall take into account the contribution of the 4.5 piggy-back pipeline attached to the 20 and 18 pipeline, including all external coating of the pipe. Soil Characteristic To model pipeline contact with the seabed soil in AUTOPIPE, the soil stiffness and associate force in lateral, longitudinal and vertical down directions on seabed have to be calculated. An excel spreadsheet has been developed to calculate the soil stiffness and the results are tabulated in Appendix B. The pipe sections coated with 90mm concrete coating are assumed to be in contact with the seabed while the non-concrete coated sections between the concrete coated sections are assumed not to be load bearings.

Pipeline End Expansion The pipeline end expansions were calculated for the pipeline at the offshore platform end based on the pipe properties and operational data. This data is extracted from the In-field Pipelines Thermal Expansion Analysis Report [Ref. 7]. The maximum end expansions of the 20-inch, 18-inch and 4.5-inch pipeline end expansions are summarized in Appendix C.

METHOD OF ANALYSIS The riser and spool piece are designed to meet the following design requirements: Vortex Induced Vibration (Screening Criteria) In place stress analysis Seismic Design

The methods of the analysis are described in the following subsections. 3.1 Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV) The screening criteria have been calibrated against full fatigue analyses to provide a fatigue life in excess of 50 years. An excel spreadsheet is used to calculate the three main parameters of Screening Fatigue Criteria. It calculates the allowable riser span length to provide a fatigue life in excess of 50 years, which complies with the DNV RP F-105. A fatigue life in excess of 50 years is obtained when the three main criteria in the expressions below are satisfied:

If wave criterion is violated, full fatigue analyses due to in-line VIV and direct wave action is required. However, the in-line VIV screening criterion may still be used provided that a quasi static Morison force calculation shows that the fatigue due to direct wave action could be neglected. The analysis case that is considered in the VIV analysis is subjected to operation and hydrotest conditions. Based on the calculated span length for both conditions, the riser clamp elevation is then identified such that the clamp elevation spacing is smaller than the riser maximum span length. 3.2 In Place Stress Analysis In place stress analysis for riser and spool piece is carried out using AUTOPIPE software. Figure 3.2.1 shows the coordinate in AUTOPIPE model and wave direction for analysis purposes.

There are several steps involved in modelling the riser and spool piece using AUTOPIPE. Detailed explanations are as below: 3.2.1 Defining Coordinates and Geometry AUTOPIPE works on the basis of a global (right-hand) co-ordinate system that can be located at any point along the model. Nodes are established at important locations such as valves, change of pipe geometry and riser clamps. And, it also used to define the length of pipe elements. Since large changes in stress might occur over a very short distance, nodes are placed close together to improve the resolution of the calculated stress profile. 3.2.2 Defining Pipe Components AUTOPIPE has a series of elements used to model the various components of the pipe. Most of the components are lower order beam theory and incorporate stress intensification factors, as appropriate at pipe connections and bends. 3.2.3 Boundary Conditions Boundary conditions can be specified in AUTOPIPE at any of the nodes to restrain either translation or rotation of a particular node in any of the three global (or local) co-ordinate directions. This feature is used to simulate riser clamps and supports.

The boundary conditions for the hanger clamp restrain the riser against lateral, axial and rotation in all directions. Consequently, the weight of the riser (including the fluid inside the riser) is transferred to the jacket at this clamp. Underwater riser guide clamps are assumed to allow movement along the axis of the pipe but restrain the pipe against translation in the other directions.

Boundary conditions that specify a fixed displacement or rotation can also be applied. This feature is used to apply displacements arising from thermal expansion of the pipeline as well as jacket displacements at the riser clamps and topside supports during the design storm event. 3.2.4 Pipe Soil Interaction In the vertical plane, the seabed soils are assumed to support the pipe with an elastic foundation support and the elastic sub-grade modulus is specified as an input parameter. In the plane of the seabed, the soil is assumed to provide a linear approximation to Coulomb friction.

The calculation of the soil friction forces is based on the soil friction factors multiplied by the pipeline submerged weight per unit length.

To model the soil characteristic in AUTOPIPE, the soil stiffness and associated force in lateral, longitudinal, vertical-up and vertical down directions have to be calculated; see Section 2.8. 3.2.5 Coatings External coatings are considered as part of the overall structural model of the riser. The pipe weight is computed directly by the program. 3.2.6 Fluid Properties Both internal and external fluid properties influence the riser. By specifying the water depth relative to one of the global co-ordinate directions, the external loading is automatically accounted for by AUTOPIPE using the hydrodynamic diameter. 3.2.7 Gravity The specific gravity of the pipe contents can be specified in order to calculate its weight. For this analysis, gravity loads due to each different section of pipe, pipe contents and coatings are captured in AUTOPIPE by specifying the material densities.

Temperature Constant temperature or variable temperature profiles can be specified throughout the model. For this analysis, a constant temperature is applied to each riser model. The riser temperature is assumed conservatively to be the design maximum temperature.

3.2.9

Pressure Constant internal pressure is applied to the whole model for hoop stress calculations. Internal pressure is applied and results are in both circumferential and longitudinal stresses.

3.2.10 Hydrodynamic Loads Hydrodynamic loads include the forces due to wave action and steady currents. Three wave theories are available in AUTOPIPE: Airy (linear), Stokes (up to 5th order) and Stream function. For this analysis, Stokes function wave theory is used. In AUTOPIPE, the water particle velocities computed with the selected wave theory are combined with the steady current to determine the distribution of instantaneous water particle velocity at the centerline of the submerged pipe body. Inertia, drag and lift forces due to waves and currents are automatically calculated using the Morison equation and the selected hydrodynamic force coefficients. 3.2.11 Platform Displacement Platform displacements as shown in Section 2.2 are specified at each support location in the model for cases that include the environmental loading. The platform displacement at each support location is obtained by linear interpolation as mentioned in Section 2.2. 3.3 Seismic Design The riser and spool piece configurations are checked against seismic loading using the static earth quake method from AUTOPIPE. With this method, the maximum stresses, moments and displacements of the configurations are estimated using the seismic acceleration of 0.1g (Section 2.4). Figure 3.3.1 shows the coordinate in AUTOPIPE model and seismic acceleration direction for analysis purposes.

ANALYSIS RESULT AND SUMMARY All eight risers and spool piece at platform SPD 22, SPD 23, SPD 24A and SPD 24B have been analysed for VIV and in-place stress analysis. Based on the results of these analyses, the riser and spool piece configurations shown on the Drawing No. SP22/24-L4-PL-DW-9217, SP22/24-L4-PL-DW-9216, acceptable. The VIV analyses are conducted to confirm that the span lengths are acceptable by the DNV criteria. The results of the VIV analyses for the 20-inch riser are shown from Table 4.1.3 to Table 4.1.6. The fatigue life due to direct wave loading for the span length and the in-line / cross flow allowable span length are presented in these tables as well. Regarding Table 4.1.13 the following should be noted: The maximum spans in the listed sections have been presented. The section between EL +5.639 and EL 3.151 of the 4.5-inch riser is governed by the increased wall thickness in the splash zone. The maximum length of the riser in the section between elevation EL -30.00 and EL 61.475 has been presented.

The results of the vortex-induced vibration analyses for the risers are tabulated in Table 4.1.14 and Table 4.1.15. Fatigue life due to direct wave for the span length and in-line allowable span length are presented in these tables as well. Based on the analysis results all riser clamp spacings are found to be acceptable.

Local Buckling Check The local buckling check is performed as per DNV RP F-101 section 5D600 using the DNV spreadsheet. The resulting functional and environmental loads of the in-place stress analysis are verified to be complying with the local buckling criteria for load controlled condition as per article 605. The load controlled local buckling check results for the 20-inch, 18-inch and 4.5inch riser and spool piece model of AUTOPIPE comprising four cases of environmental loads are presented from Figure 4.2.1 through Figure 4.2.12 for the Hydrotest and Operation case.

Pipe Forces on the Supports The pipe forces on the supports were obtained from the AUTOPIPE analysis at the support location as per the Drawings No. SP22/24-L4-PL-DW-9217, SP22/24-L4-PL-DW-9216, SP22/24-L3-PL-DW-9217 and SP22/24-L3-PL-DW-9216. Figure 4.4.1 through Figure 4.4.6 show the modelled supports for the 20-inch, 18-inch and 4.5-inch risers, whereas Figure 4.4.7 shows the modelled supports for 4.5-inch riser at SPD22 for seismic cases. The details of the supports in AUTOPIPE can be found from Figure 4.4.8 through Figure 4.4.18. The results of the pipe forces on the supports can be found in Attachment D for the 20-inch, 18-inch and 4.5-inch riser. The maximum forces on the hanger flange clamp and guide clamp are presented below in Table 4.3.1 and Table 4.3.2.

Load Controlled Condition for Seismic Static Analysis The load controlled condition for seismic is performed as per DNV RP F-101 section using the MathCAD spreadsheet. The highest stress location along the 20-inch, 18-inch and 4.5-inch riser is checked against the load controlled equation as per Section 5, Paragraph 605 [Ref. 1]. The load controlled check values are below 1.0 and satisfy the DNV RP F-101 requirement. Table 4.4.1 shows the result of the Load Controlled Check for 32-inch and 4.5-inch riser. This data shall be provided to the hanger flange supplier/manufacturer for the flange detailed design calculation and safety factors shall be applied as per appropriate codes. The maximum forces on the hanger clamp are as given in Table 4.3.1. 4.6 Loads on Subsea Flange This data shall be provided to the flange supplier/manufacturer for the flange detailed design calculation and safety factors shall be applied as per appropriate codes. The 20-inch, 18-inch and 4.5-inch subsea tie-in points will be connected by flange connection, in which the types and material properties are listed in Table 4.6.1.
