Ng mihi nui ki a koutou Greetings to you all, End of year buses: I have had a few questions about the reason we are finishing after the other town schools and why the buses are not running in our last week. We are required by the Ministry of Education to complete 193 days instruction, and as we started later than the other schools at the start of the year we have to stay open for instruction longer. Unfortunately Greenline Buses are not providing the bus service for the schools that are open after Friday 13th December. The last school bus run for our students will be on Friday 13 th at the usual time of 3.10pm. Greenline will be running two bus runs that day, one at 12.00pm for the Primary Schools finishing early and one at the end of the school day for our school, to ensure they meet their obligation for our students. Last week of school: Each team is planning an alternative programme for the last week from 16th to 18th December, with activities such as sports competitions, team challenges and crafts. We will be finishing school on Wednesday 18th December at 12.30pm. Cultural Evening: Last night was our annual Cultural Evening and what an amazing performance it was. The range and depth of talent at M.I.S is exceptional, and what warms your heart is that the students love what they are doing and to see the growth in confidence in many of our students is wonderful. Congratulations to all those who participated you are all STARS in our eyes! Thank you to the families who came along to see the talent. Outdoor Tables: This week has seen the arrival of six new picnic tables for the students; they look fabulous and if the rain ever stops we might see our students outside enjoying them. A big thank you to Aotea team who donated their excess profit from their chocolate sales to enable us to make this purchase. Nku noa, Vicky Marshall Acting Principal
Whakatauki mo te wiki: Proverb for the week He wahi nui kei runga noa ake! There is always room at the top!
Extension Quilting
Each year Mrs Dainty works with groups of students who are keen to learn the art of quilting. Interested students meet with Mrs Dainty to hear what is involved and then come up with a design. We are always amazed at the unique ideas students come up with for their designs which usually have a special meaning to each student based on their interests. The completed quilts are absolutely amazing and the students very proudly display them in our school foyer for everyone to enjoy. (Call in to have a look if you get the chance!) The quilts were taken to Te Aroha for their recent A P & H Show and many of our students received awards. The photo is of Lorelei Boyd and Alex Finucane (who both received first placings in separate divisions). Other prizes were awarded to: Max Rappe (2nd), Tasha Tunnicliffe (2nd), Charlotte Callaghan (3rd) and Jyadeep Nagra (3rd). Well done to all students who have been involved in quilting this year.
A team of 38 MIS students qualified to compete at the Inter -Intermediate Athletics competition at Porritt Stadium. This is always a very tough competition against athletes from around the Waikato.
