Quote the definition Play is defined as an activity bringing amusement or enjoyment often defined as spontaneous activity. Play gives us a chance to witness the processes working in a child's mind. Play includes a number of activities throughout the life span but is primarily defined in terms of the cognitively enriching and personally enjoyable activities that occur from infancy through childhood. This entry focuses on independent and social play activities, their developmental progression, as well as other related concepts. Play is a type of free activity, familiar in the lives not only of humans, but also of certain animal species, that takes place within its own proper boundaries of time and space (Huizinga 1950: 13). This activity is particularly characteristic of the young of any relevant species, who use special playful, and immediately recognizable expressions to indicate that they are engaged in it.

THEORIES: One theory is that play came about as a way to honor Gods, this comes from Ancient Greece beliefs.

A theory is a group of evidence based facts that seek to provide an explanation for certain behaviors or events. There are a number of theories that seek to explain recreation, leisure and play behaviors. For this part of the assignment, use the library services to do a search for theories of recreation, leisure and play. Choose one of these theories for further study. Name the theory and give information about the origins/history of the theory as well as the person(s) credited with developing the theory. Write a paragraph explaining the theory and the evidence for and against the theory. Cite your source(s) using APA (see Blackboard/Course Documents/Support Materials).

REFLECTIONS: Summarize what you have learned about the subject of recreation, leisure and play. How have your thoughts changed after reading more about these terms? I learned that the terms recreation, leisure and play can be defined in many ways. That its no particular way to define to define leisure. For the simple fact that people can define leisure in many different ways.

What were your thoughts while looking for information? How did you choose your sources? Where did you go to find information? Was it difficult to find the answers you were looking for? Did the search go the way you expected? What surprises did you have while looking for information? I learned a lot of different ways people can define these three terms. When looking for different ways to define these terms I tried to use encyclopedias verses using dictionaries. For the most part this wasnt a difficult assignment when it comes to looking up information.
