Debate on criminals are wicked and deserve punishment Now-a-days, the crimes are increasing everywhere.

Everyday we hear the news that someone was robbed or murdered. This has lead to instability in many countries. In India, it has many adverse effects. The crime rate is going up at a very fast rate in India. Most of the crimes in India involves robbery, theft, etc. Sometimes shops are looted or sometimes houses are looted. Recently in Kolkata, fire broke out in a hospital in which about 92 people died. Also in past, in BHOPAL GAS TRAGEDY, about 22,000 people died and thousands of people were seriously injured. These crimes are not intentional. But they accidentally took place. Criminals should not be punished severely. But before punishing, we should try to know why they did so. No one wants to do crime, but situation forces them to commit it. Many people commit crime because they need money to maintain their families. When criminals are kept in jail, they become hardened criminals. They loose their respect and only thinks to hurt others. But now-a-days, the government has started many rehabilitation programs to help criminals to convert them into good human beings. When jail - authorities see improvement in criminals, they release them even before completion of their period of imprisonment. SUPREME COURT OF INDIA has also said that severe punishment cannot be given for any small crime. The court while sentencing the convicts should deal with them under the PROBATION OF OFFENDERS ACT, 1958. The courts should release the convicts of minor offences by giving them the benefit of probation. Crimes are to be hated not the criminals. So at last, I want to say that the criminals should not be given severe punishment. They can be converted into good human beings by humanitarian values like love, careness, etc. So, they should be guided not to do such actions in future instead of sending them to jail. All criminals are not necessarily wicked. Sometimes social conditions lead to crime. The government should take appropriate steps to change such conditions. Criminals should be given a chance to repent .Those who get imprisoned should have their sentences reduced if they behave well in the prison. People do change and we should treat them accordingly of how they live today. Punishment serves as a deterrent to crime and a shield for the innocent. Punishment works to reinforce the norms and the lack of punishment would lead to the break up of existing norms. How people are punished should depend on the crime and if it really hurt anyone or had the potential to. Excessive punishment for a small crime will definitely fill the convict with despair and hopelessness. People should show understanding and wisdom in judging individuals. Hate the crime and not the criminal. Criminals are wicked and deserve punishment. Committing a crime shows one lacks in ethics and values, and implies a person is lacking in any overall good. The fact that a person committed a crime is a reflection of their true self. If one is unable to live by ethical standards and chooses to do wrong, they are wicked. By being wicked and acting as

such, then they deserve to face harsh consequences for their actions. Different actions have different levels of unethical standards, and thus the punishment must fit the crime... Yes, they are ALL wicked and need to be publicly executed, save the taxpayers from trillions of dollars. When squeaky from just got released last week, she was in prison for 40yrs.The average cost per criminal in prison is 30,000 to 40,000 dollars. Do the math, she alone cost ALL taxpayers in this country (not just the state she was imprisoned in)1 million and some odd dollars, that is outrageous! She was an accessory to MURDER, she herself must be murdered instead of being let go. Her victims werent "let go" now were they? I'm all in favour of the VICTIM, not the rat hole criminal One thing is clear - there are far too many people in American prisons. There are far too many 'criminals ' in prison despite the fact that they pose no significant threat to society. As a result - otherwise productive citizens are sitting in a jail cell costing taxpayers money to look after. Despite this, there are many non-violent crimes which warrant jail time. Without this, the penalties for breaking the law might be so mild, that people will take calculated risks. For instance, when I was a child, I was told not to eat more than two cookies. However, the punishment if caught would be that I would have to return the excess cookies. Therefore, from my point of view, it made sense for me to always try and get away with extra cookies. If the punishment had been a spanking, being grounded etc - then I would have factored in the risk, and would have decided against taking extra cookies. Imagine if CEO 's took the same view towards corporate fraud. Now, I am not suggesting that people who break any infraction of the law should go to prison, nor am I suggesting that the current system is perfect, or even remotely close to perfect for that matter. However, I do feel that there are many non-violent crimes which merit a prison term - not community service, not a suspended sentence, not house arrest and not probation - but prison. Here are a few examples: 1) Repeatedly driving drunk or with a suspended sentence. 2) Defrauding seniors out of their life savings. 3) Ignoring the constitution and illegally wiretapping American citizens. 4) Making hundreds of millions of dollars while falsifying documents to trick investors into investing in your company. 5) Selling crack. Do we really want these people on the streets? Do we really want to give them a slap on the wrist? Do we really want to give these people a chance to escape and go to a South American country to retire? Absolutely not. These people might not kill, but they are every bit as dangerous as the drunk who punches a cop in the face
