The Cell-Webquest

Introduction: Uh oh! Doctors have identified a rare and deadly disease

that attacks a certain part of human cells. Did you know there are various organelles that make up an animal cell and each has a specific job to make a cell function? If one organelle of the cell does not work, it affects the whole cell. Doctors are confused about different organelles of an animal cell and need your help to identify the different organelles of an animal cell and what they do.

Task: You will work in groups of four. You will need to draw the twelve
organelles of the animal cell provided below. In addition, you will need to supply a two- three sentences description of what each organelle of the cell does in order to help doctors cure this disease.

Nucleus Cell Membrane

Ribosomes Lysosomes

Mitochondrion Process:

Vacuoles

Nucleolus Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum Golgi

Centrosomes Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum Centriole

1. Open the link provided below. Once open, click on take me to the animal and plant cell animation on the bottom left. Make sure you are looking at the animal cell! 2. Once you have the interactive cell in front of you: use the twelve parts of the cell listed above to draw and learn more about cells. 3. You will be provided with a plain piece of paper. 4. Draw the twelve organelles in the cell, listed above, labeling them 1-12. Location of the parts in the cell does not matter! 5. Once the cell is done being drawn write 2-3 sentences about each organelle of the cell on notebook paper provided. Each description must be numbered 1-12 and match the same number of the organelle of the cell you drew. (You can multi-task and have both steps 4 and 5 being done at the same time!)

Evaluation: The Rubric below will explain how you are being evaluated. Conclusion: Congratulations! You have successfully helped doctors
identify major parts of the animal cell! A cure for the rare disease should be available soon because of you! Please share your drawings with the class.
