Freeway Driver Traffic safety helps in reducing the number of injuries and deaths on the road. Traffic safety not only means lights, signs, signal, etc., it also means law enforcement. Traffic consists of pedestrians, bicyclist, airplanes, motor vehicles and many other things. As you can see, traffic is any and every one. In Steven Caseys Freeway Driver, Richard Ankrom, addresses the issue of road safety on the freeway. Ankrom states that when he drives down the freeway he always notices that his exits passes by him because there were no warnings ahead of time, to let him know to get in the far right lane. As this example indicates, traffic signs are for the safety of everyone, and therefore, the Department of Transportation, for every state, needs to invest in more signs, signals, and any other pre-cautionary system for traffic safety.

Basic Driving Tactics. Traffic Signs and Signals Films Media Group, 2005. Films On Demand. Web. 13 November 2013. <http://storm.hgtc.edu:2048/login?url=http://digital.films.com/PortalPlaylists.aspx?aid=3 503&xtid=34605&loid=22258>. In summary, the film on demand (video) I chose, talks about the different signs and what the importance of them are. The film demonstrates different signs and talks about what the colors of them mean. It also shows a young girl reading the drivers manual to study for her permit test. Obviously, if she has to read this manual and take a test, that shows the importance of these signs

Wilson 2 and signals. A racecar driver states, The more you drive, the more experience that you get. The more time you spend on the road, youll be able to react to different situations quickly and efficiently... Its something you have to practice and its something you have to be really aware of and stay on top of (Basic Driver Tactics, Traffic Signs and Signals). I believe the film is credible because it not only shows the girl studying for her test but it also shows that there is a book in learning these signs, signals, and any other pre-cautionary systems there are to learn about. This producer had to have taken time to study and learn these signs so in my opinion they are very reliable and credible. I will use this film to my advantage by using the segment Traffic Signs and Signals. This information can be very useful for my paper by knowing what the different shapes and colors of a traffic sign really mean.

Kowalick, Tom. Fatal Exit: The Automotive Black Box Debate. John Wiley & Sons Inc., 2005 eBook Collection (EBSCOhost). EBSCO. Web. 12 November 2013. To summarize chapter 8: Turn Signals, they talk about mandating safety standards to reduce crashes or collisions on the high way. It also says that its the agencys duty to advance this safety. Turn signals are well known, and highly needed. This e-book is credible because they go off of facts and research. The dig deep into investigation of traffic accidents and relay what they get. I can use this source by talking about the importance of turn signals based on the research they gathered. Their research is very useful and can help with my argument.

Wilson 3 Murphy, Patricia J. Garret Morgan: Inventor of the Traffic Light and Gas Mask. Berkeley Heights, New Jersey: Enslow Publishers, Inc., 2004. Print. Garrett Morgan was always looking for a way to make the world a better and safer place. Patricia J. Murphy states, One day in 1922, a car and a horse-drawn carriage crashed into each other at a busy street corner. Garrett saw it happen. He was very upsetThere were some traffic signals with STOP and GO signs, but they did not do much good (Murphy 21). Witnessing a terrible traffic accident in 1922 encouraged him to invent the traffic light. At the time there were very few traffic signs. Garrett Morgan made pictures of his ideas for the traffic signal; it was called the Garrett A. Morgan Safety System and it was used for many years. The government gave Morgan a patent for his idea. Towns and companies soon wanted to buy this patent and it made him a very rich man. This book was published in 2004 therefor; Patricia J. Murphy had more than enough time to do research on Garrett Morgan. Murphy is credible not only because she did a lot of research but because she has wrote more than just one book which proves that her book Garrett Morgan: Inventor of the Traffic Light and Gas Mask is very credible. In her book she not only talks about Garrett Morgan inventing the traffic light, she also talked about what type of safety they used before he invented the traffic light. I am going to use this source by telling how Garrett Morgan believed that the traffic light was for the safety of everyone so there are fewer injuries. By using this book for my research I am getting a good bit of information on the safety of traffic lights themselves. I am going to consider the good and bad things of having traffic lights and try and persuade my readers that the traffic signals/lights are very safe. I will specifically be using Chapter 4 of this book that tells how Garrett Morgan came about inventing the traffic signals.

Road Conditions: A Leading Cause of Accidents. New Haven Personal Injury Lawyer - Jacobs & Jacobs, 2013. Web. 13 November 2013. There are many dangers lurking on our roadways when they are not properly maintained and unsuspecting drivers may be in jeopardy from these hazards (Road Conditions). That quote sums the whole website up. It talks about the different types of hazards on the road and lists a lot of different poor conditions on the road. Things like: potholes and uneven payment, lack of road maintenance, broken or missing signs, and many other things that can be hazardous and cause harm to drivers. This website is credible because they give examples and evidence supporting their argument. I can use this website for examples of different problems the road can have. I can also use it by talking about the injuries they cause and the solutions for fixing these problems. Like my main point in my introduction states, the Department of Transportation, for every state, needs to invest in more signs, signals, and any other pre-cautionary system for traffic safety. This website will be more than enough to prove my point.

Tolchin, Deborah. "Saving Lives on the Highway." Pediatric News Apr. 2007: 31. OneFile. Web. 13 November 2013 Saving lives on the Highway talks about the statistics of death related traffic accidents due to impaired driving. By saying impaired, I mean being drunk, sleepy, or even not following the laws and regulations. The author tells good examples in how to refrain from accidents. Tolchin states, In the United States, 43,340 people, including 8,578 under the age of 21, were

Wilson 5 killed in car crashes in 2003, the most recent year (Tolchin). She is trying to persuade her readers to encourage others and themselves to be safe when driving and take caution when behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. Tolchins article is very credible and reliable because she gives statistics and evidence of the research she has done on her topic. She also tells about her experience of a young woman crying about how her boyfriend had fallen asleep while driving and killed two people. She gives personal stories and evidence of her findings. Meanwhile, she is persuading her readers to be safe. I will use this source by stating the statics that Tolchin uses and also try and persuade my readers in the way that Im very sure she convinced her readers.
