We are well aware that the constitution of Kenya created the national and county governments to co-operate and work together to deliver services to the citizens for socio-economic development and improved livelihoods.

ounty Integrated "evelopment #lans $ I"#% are necessary in various sectors. &his can only be realized with appropriate data and information. Indeed, ounties are supposed to generate statistics and do mapping for proper planning and development. "ata and information are also crucial in informed decision making and in policy formulation and legislation. +a*ie# an* $en"lemen &he "irectorate of 'esource (urveys and 'emote (ensing $"'('(% in the )inistry of )ining has been undertaking resource surveys, assessment and mapping in Kenya since *+,- and has therefore the capacity to assist ounties with data and information on natural resources that will inform "evelopment #lans $ I"#%. In this project, "'('( will use geo-spatial technologies to map urban land use and cover of the county for proper planning and management. .urthermore, land use and land cover mapping is a flagship /ision 0121 project for sustainable development and environmental conservation. In this county project, innovative approaches including use of real-time geo-based ()3'& phone will be employed and the youth will be engaged and trained to collect data using these phones.

4overnments to deliver services to Kenyans for socio-economic development. &o this end, my )inistry will deliver on the project and also provide necessary training on 4eographic information system $4I(% to county staff to enhance their skills. .inally, With those few remarks, it gives me great pleasure to declare the urban land use9cover mapping of Kwale ounty officially launched.
