Caitlin Arnold, Nataliya Gulla, Mariela Ramirez, Susan Martinez, Sydney Martinez Instructor Jennifer Courtney English 2010 04 December 2013 Be the Change! The topic of our final project is directly connected to our community-partner organization, which is the Student Service-Learning Center at Salt Lake Community College. Service-learning is an innovative way to teach, using out-of-class experience, with communitypartners. We used an informative genre, making a short video with an introduction to servicelearning. This is our way to support the idea and, to become an active part of the community. Our goal was to have this video become an integral part of the service-learning program at Salt Lake Community College. We wanted it to introduce how service-learning works to new students who are beginning a service-learning class for the first time.

He is developing such definition using the work of previous researchers, educators and identifying such activities like volunteerism, internships, community service and other programs. Distinguishing among service programs mentioned by author, is a very important aspect in developing the principles of good practice while combining service and learning. Jeavons, Thomas H. Service-Learning and Liberal Learning: A Marriage of Convenience. Grand Valley State University. Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning. Fall 1995, pp. 134-140. The author is arguing that service-learning is a form of innovative or non-traditional pedagogy which is very useful, effective and appropriate in achieving the same goals what traditional or liberal education does. It is crucial in our diverse and global community to make a progress adjusting and developing all possible new approaches which are benefitting everybody. It is also essential that we are reflecting on our community needs in time and succesfully. Jendron, Carol and Gail Robinson. Creating a Climate for Service Learning Success. Washington: American Association of Community Colleges, 2010.
