Matthew 28:19-20, 2 Timothy 2:2

Attaining to all the WEALTH this holiday season

Shalom dear friends!!! December 9, 2013 I love the way Paul prays for those in Colossae. I call this the Prayer of a Spiritual Parent for his beloved children in faith. Here it is: For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ASK that (i) you may be filled with the knowledge of His WILL in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that (ii) you will WALK in a manner worthy of the Lord, (iii) to PLEASE Him in all respects, (iv) bearing fruit in every good work and (v) increasing in the knowledge of God; (vi) strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, (vi) for the ATTAINING of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. (Col. 1:9-12).

O, how much we need these types of spiritual mentors in todays church. We so desperately need mature and loving people. We need to surround ourselves with individuals with a deep intimate knowledge of Christ through the Holy Spirit to agonize for the spiritual children of faith. We need to pray

for the church with this kind of passion and desire so that the church will be attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God's mystery, that is, Christ Himself, (Col. 2:2). As you can observe in the prayer above I highlighted seven (7) spiritual dimensions of Pauls prayer for this church. Here they are: i. FULL knowledge of the WILL of God. ii. WALKING the WALK iii. PLEASING Christ in all things iv. BEARING FRUIT v. INCREASING in the KNOWLEDGE of God vi. Strengthened with all POWER vii. ATTAINING of all steadfastness Having laid this platform by prayer Paul expands and builds on each of these spiritual dimensions throughout his epistle. I am suggesting we take the time and look into details at each of these dimensions that Paul prayed for the Colossians and believers in Laodicea and extract all the golden nuggets for our own spiritual walk. Below please find the golden nugget nr. 1.

i. FULL knowledge of the WILL of God. First of all Paul prayed that these believers may be filled with the knowledge of His WILL in all spiritual wisdom and understanding (Col. 1:9). In other words Paul acknowledges that in order to be filled with the knowledge of His will we, believers, need all spiritual wisdom and understanding we can get from above. We need the Holy Spirit working in us and transforming our hearts and minds into Christ likeness. This kind of knowledge and understanding is not a human type of knowledge; it is a spiritual knowledge. In other parts of his writings Paul explains: But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised (1 Cor. 2:14). It is clear that the natural mind cannot comprehend the things of God. Only a mind that has been touched by the Spirit can start seeing the things of God. That is why having Gods illumination when reading Scriptures is so important. Paul explains: For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God (1 Cor. 2:10). So when we open The Book, before reading from it, we should start by asking God to let the Holy Spirit reveal us the

things of Christ and guide us in all truth. Jesus tells us: But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come (John 16:13). Without the leading and guiding of the Spirit we may read and know the words on the pages of the Bible; but with the Spirits assistance we may KNOW Christ and Gods WILL. Jesus continues: He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you (John 16:14). Wow! Did you see that? The Holy Spirit with takes of Christ and reveals it to us. Isnt this absolutely amazing? And why is this so wonderful? Because in the end what matters is: Christ in you, the hope of glory (Col. 1:27(b)). Only by having this revelation explained and disclosed by to Holy Spirit to us individually we may be filled with the knowledge of His will. PRAYER: < O, heavenly Father, give us all spiritual wisdom and understanding (Col. 1:10) to comprehend with all the saints (Eph. 3:18) what it means to be in Christ and the significance of Christ in us. We desire to know the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations (Col. 1:26). Not only this, but our deep desire is for You to continue to manifest this mystery to Your saints and believers in the twenty first century as you did it in the first century. We ask and pray that You continues to fill us up with all the fullness of God (Eph. 3:19). >

In CONCLUSION: Since we have entered into this holiday season the tendency of this culture is to push us to get busier and busier with shopping for gifts, planning meals and events, and decorating the house and the front porch. These things in themselves are not necessary evil. Even though is not wrong to be involved in the holiday spirit, doing these is not the main reason we should focus on. While doing what we are doing may give us some-sort of pleasure and appearance of fulfillment, lets not lose perspective of the real reason for the season. Lets focus on Christ and getting to know Him better and more intimately. After all we celebrate His birthday! Right? With love in Christ,
