Question 1:- Define Tautology and Contradiction. Draw the truth tables of Conjunction, disjunction and Bi-conditional statements. Answer:- Tautology- A statement is said to be a tautology if it is true for all logical possibilities. In other words, a statement is called tautology if its truth table is T and only T in the last column of its truth table. A statement is said to be a contradiction if it is false for all logical possibilities. In other words, a statement is called contradiction if its truth value is F and only F in the last column of its truth table. A given statement is tautology (or contradiction) is to construct its truth table. Truth table for conjunction p T T F F q T F T F P^q T F F F

Truth table for Disjunction p T T F F q T F T F p q T T T F

Truth table for Bi-conditional statements p T F ~q F T

Question 2:- If y=eax .cos3x.sin2x find dy/dx. Solution:-y=eax cos3xSin2x Let e is the 1st function , Cos3x is the 2nd function and Sin2x is the 3rd function. Let eax = p On differentiating both side with respect to x. d(eax )/dx = dp/dx

2 aeax = dp/dx aeax dx = dp Let Cosx = q On differentiating both side with respect to x. d(Cosx)/dx = dq/dx

3 -Sinx = dq/dx -Sinxdx = dq ____________ Let Sinx = r On differentiating both side with respect to x. d(Sinx)/dx = dr/dx

4 Cosx = dr/dx Cosx dx = dr

1 From equation no. On differentiation both side w. r. to x dy/dx = eax Cos3x d(Sin2x)/dx + eax Sin2xd(Cos3x)/dx + Cos3xSin2xd(eax )/dx

From equation no. 2, 3 & 4 =eax Cos3x.(2Cosx.Sin2x) + eax Sin2(-3Sinx.Cos2x) + Cos3x.Sin2x. (aeax ) =2eax Sin2x.Cos4x 3eax Sin3Cos2x + aeax Sin2xCos3x =eax Sin2x.Cos2x[2Cos2x 3Sinx + 2Cosx]

Question 3:- Find the Taylors expansion of f(x) = Sinx at x=0. Solution:- f(x) = sinx f(0 ) = 0 f(x) = Cosx f(0) = 1 f(x) = -Sinx f(0) = 0 f(x) = -Cosx f(0 )= -1 fiv (x) = Sinx fiv (0 )= 0 . Thus the Taylors Seriesf(x) = f(a) + f(a)(x-a) + f(a)/2!(x-a)2 + .. + fn(a)/n!(x-a)n Sinx = 0 +1.(x-0) + 0/2!(x-0)2 - 1/3!(x-0)3 + .. + (-1)nx2n+1/2n+1!

Question 4:- Show that the length of the curve y = log Secx between the points x=0 and x= /3 is log(2+ 3).

Solution:Length of curve = {1 + (dy/dx)}dx between the specified limits . y=logsecx Now dy/dx = secxtanx/secx = tanx, so 1 + (dy/dx) = 1 + tanx = secx. Now put the value of 1 + (dy/dx) Length of curve = {secx}dx Hence length of curve = secxdx = [log(secx + tanx] = log(sec/3 + tan/3) - ln(sec0 + tan0) = log(2 + 3).

Question 5:- Find the nth derivative of i. Cos mx ii. Cos2x Solution: (i) y = Cosmx dy/dx = y1 = d(Cosmx)/dx = -m Sinmx d2y/dx2 = y2 = d/dx(dy/dx) = d/dx(-mSinmx) = -m2Cosmx

d3y/dx3 = y3 = d/dx(d2y/dx2) = d/dx(-m2Cosmx) = m3Sinmx d4y/dx 4 = y4= d/dx(d3y/dx3) = d/dx(m3Sinmx) = m4Cosmx dny/dxn = yn = d/dx(dn-1y/dxn-1) = mn[Cos(mx+n/2]

(ii)

y = Cos2x Y = Cos(2x+1)/2 = Cos(2x+1) dy/dx = y1= d/dx(Cos2x+1) = 2/2 (-Sin2x) = -Sin2x d2y/dx2 = y2 = d/dx(dy/dx) = d/dx(-Sin2x) = -2Cos2x d3y/dx3= y3 = d/dx(d2y/dx2) = d/dx(-2Cos2x) = 4Sin2x = (2)2Sin2x d4y/dx4 = y4 = d/dx(d3y/dx3) = d/dx(4Sin2x) = 8Cos2x = (2)3Cos2x dny/dxn = yn = d/dx(dn-1y/dxn-1) = 2n-1Cos(2x+n/2)

Question 6:- Find the values for x, y, z that satisfy the matrix relationship. Solution:3[2z-xy] = [2.2z-(-6)] + [12-(x+2).(y+z)] 6z-3xy = (4z+6) + [12-(xy+xz+2y+2z)] 6z-3xy= (4z+6) + (12-xy-xz-2y-2z) 6z-3xy = 18+ 2z-xy-xz-2y xz -2xy + 2y + 4z - 18 = 0 On putting the value of x=4, y=1 & z=3 4.3-2.4.1+2.1+4.3-18 = 0 12-8+2+12-18 = 0

26-26 = 0 0=0 Both side are equal. So, the value of x, y & z are 4, 1, 3.
