Ectrin Suspension is also contraindicated for Phenylketonuria, because of existence of aspartame.

Generic Name: Erdosteine Brand Name: Ectrin Classification: Mucolytics

Treatment of acute bronchitis, chronic bronchitis and its exacerbations. Respiratory disorders characterized by abnormal bronchial secretions and impaired mucus transport.

Erdosteine contains two sulfhydryl groups, which are freed after metabolic transformation in the liver. The liberated sulfhydryl groups break the disulphide bonds, which hold the glycoprotein fibres of mucus together. This makes the bronchial secretions more fluid and enhances elimination.

Sweating Vertigo Flushing

DRUGS Generic Name: Doxofylline Brand Name: Ansimar Classification: Antiasthmatic & COPD

INDICATION Bronchial asthma & pulmonary disease w/ spastic bronchial component.

ACTION Adrenergic bronchodilators and phosphodiesterase inhibitors both work by increasing intracellular level of cyclic-3,5adenosine monophosphate (cAMP); adrenergics by increasing production and phosphodiesterase inhibitors by decreasing breakdown. Increased levels of cAMP produce bronchodilation. Corticosteroids act by decreasing airway inflammation. Anticholinergics (ipratropium) produce brondhodilation by decreasing intracellular levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP).

SIDE EFFECTS Nausea vomiting, epigastric pain cephalalgia irritability insomnia tachycardia extrasystole tachypnea hyperglycemia albuminuria

NURSING CONSIDERATION Assess lung sounds, pulse and blood pressure before administration and during peak of medication. Not amount, color, and character of sputum produced. Monitor pulmonary function tests before initiating therapy and periodically during therapy to determine effectiveness of medication. Observe for paradoxical bronchospasm (wheezing). If conditions occur, withhold medication and notify physician of other health care professional immediately.

INDICATION Angina pectoris due to coronary artery spasm Chronic stable angina, alone or in combination with other agents

ACTION Inhibits the movement of calcium ions across the membranes of cardiac and arterial muscle cells; inhibits trans membrane calcium flow, which results in the depression of impulse formation.

SIDE EFFECTS CNS:Dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, asth enia, fatigue, lethargy CV: Peripheral edema, arrhythmias

NURSING CONSIDERATION Monitor BP for therapeutic effectiveness. BP reduction is greatest after peak levels of amlodipine are achieved 69 h following oral doses.
