Objectives of an Organization

by V S Rama Rao on October 14, 2011 The future of any business or organization is largely determined by its vision and mission. These are the critical elements of an organization that play an active role in planning objectives and strategies for the future of the company. An organization that lacks well-defined mission and vision often deviates from its path and fails in achieving its goals. Leaders with clear vision and mission can create new height of success. Where there is no vision, the people perish; the proverb is completely true for business organizations. The future of an organization largely depends on its vision, mission and objectives. It is the responsibility of CEOs and leaders to set the vision and mission for the organization so that they can grow into a strong one. It is very important to communicate the vision clearly to the employees, so that they can play their part seriously. A well-defined vision delivers many benefits to the organization. It not only helps in defining the value of the company but at the same time guides peoples behavior. A good vision shows the uniqueness of the organization, its unique competence, what it stands for, and what it is able to achieve. The benefits of setting a vision: A vision projects a futuristic image of an organization and a well-defined vision shows the future image of an organization. 1. Vision is a stepping stone in strategic planning. 2. Well-communicated and shared vision motivates all the members of an organization to give their best. It also motivates people in setting goals for the advancement of the organization. 3. A well-defined vision infuses energy and positive attitude among employees. 4. An organization cannot grow if it lacks a well-defined and clear vision. It is a strong vision that helps an organization in achieving its goals and make strategic planning a successful event. 5. Vision adds meaning to an organizations life and brings meaning to peoples work as well. It also inspires people to do what is right and beneficial for the organization. 6. A well-defined vision motivates people to hit their competitive drive and inspire them to do something different from the rest of the people, and bring meaningful changes in an organization and in other peoples life. 7. A vision justifies the organizations presence.

A vision can be defined as a realistic, credible, attractive future for an organization.

Realistic: A vision must be realistic and achievable, setting imaginary vision will do no good to the organization, and instead it will hamper the growth of the organization and an employee by creating welter. Credible: a vision must be relevant. The member of the organization should find it realistic and achievable. One of the purposes of a vision is to inspire those in the organization to achieve a level of excellence, and to provide purpose and direction for the work of those employees. Attractive: if a vision is going to inspire those involved in it, it should be attractive enough to catch the attention. People must connect with it. Futuristic: A vision is set for the future of the company. A vision is set to decide where the company wants to be in the coming years. Vision portrays the future image of the organization.

Mission: Mission defines the purpose and long-term goals of an organization. The mission should describe the business the organization is in. A well-defined mission defines why the organization exists. It is the responsibility of a leader to communicate the mission of an organization clearly to the people involved in an organization so that they can give their best in achieving the mission of an organization. The mission defines the companys position among the market, shareholders and it is the mission that inspires management in setting strategies and plans for the future growth of a company. Objectives of an organization: The objective serves as the goal for the management in achieving the organizational mission. Sound organizational objectives reflect and flow easily from the purpose of the organization. The organizations purpose is expressed in its mission statement. Thus organizational objectives must reflect and flow naturally from an organizational mission that, in turn, was designed to reflect and flow naturally from the results of an environmental analysis. It is the objective of the organizations that work as a driving force and motivate employees to give their best to achieve the objectives of the company. Vision, mission and objectives are the three basic foundation stones of an organization. A good leader knows how to set and communicate the vision, mission and the objective of an organization among the people involved with the organization and pave its way towards success.
