No. 28 to 30 carry five marks. 6) All questions are compulsorily. 1. What is space wave communication? Write the range of frequencies suitable for space wave communication. 2. What is the function of a repeater used in communication systems? 3. Two thin lenses of power -2D and 2D are placed in contact coaxially. What is the focal length of the combination? 4. How does the mutual inductance of a pair of coils changes when: (i) Distance between the coils is increased and (ii) Number of turns in the coils is increased? 5. Two particles A and B of masses m and 2m have charges q and 2q respectively. Both these particles moving with velocities v1and v2 respectively in the same direction enter the same magnetic field B acting normally to their direction of motion. If the two forces FA and FB acting on them are in the ratio of 1:2, find the ratio of their velocities. 6. Two wires of equal length, one of copper and the other of manganin have the same resistance. Which wire is thicker? 7. A 10V battery of negligible internal resistance is connected across a 200V battery and a resistance of 38 as shown in the figure. Find the value of the current in circuit. 8. Two charges of magnitudes -2Q and +Q are located at points (a, 0) and (4a, 0) respectively. What is the electric flux due to these charges through a sphere of radius 3a with its centre at the origin? 9. Write the truth table for the logic circuit shown below and identify the logic operation performed by this circuit

10. Find the ratio of de-Broglie wavelengths, associated with: (i) Proton accelerated through a potential of 128V and (ii) - particles, accelerated through a potential of 64V. 11. Draw suitable graphs to show the variation of photoelectric current with collector plate potential for: (i) a fixed frequency but different intensities I1> I2> I3 of radiation. (ii) a fixed intensity but different frequencies 1> 2> 3 of radiation. 12. A convex lens of focal length 20cm is placed coaxially in contact with a concave lens of focal length 25cm. Determine the power of the combination. Will the system be converging or diverging in nature? 13.An alternating voltage given by E = 280 sin50t is connected across a pure resistor of 40. Find (i) the frequency of source. (ii) The rms current through the resistor. 14. Write two characteristics properties each to select materials suitable for (i) permanent magnets and (ii) electromagnets. 15. An ammeter of resistance 1 can measure current up to 1A (i) what must be the value of shunt resistance to enable the ammeter to measure up to 5A? (ii) What is the combined resistance of the ammeter and shunt? (OR) The susceptibility of a magnetic material is 2.6 10-5. Identify the type of magnetic material and state its two properties. 16. A battery of emf 6V and internal resistance 2 is connected to a resistor. If the current in the circuit is 0.25A, find. (i) The resistance of the resistor. (ii) The terminal voltage of the battery. 17. Draw a plot showing the variation of (i) electric field (E) and (ii) electric potential (V) with distance r due to a point charge Q. 18. A network of four capacitors, each of capacitance 15F, is connected across a battery of 100V, as shown in figure. Find the net capacitance and the charge on the capacitor C4.

19.What is the significance of negative sign in the expression for the energy? Draw the energy level diagram showing how the line spectra corresponding to Paschen series occur due to transition between energy levels. 20. i) Define activity of a radioactive material and write its S.I. unit ii) Plot a graph showing variation of activity of a given radioactive sample with time iii) The sequence of stepwise decay of a radioactive nucleus is D D1 D2. If the atomic number and mass number of D2 are 71 and 176 respectively, what are their corresponding values for D? 21. Light incident at an angle of incidence of 45, in a certain medium, goes grazing along its surface of separation from air, after refraction. What is (i) the velocity of light in this medium? (ii) the angle of incidence, at which light, from air, must be incident on this medium, so that the refracted ray is normal to the reflected ray ? Also name the special property exhibited by light for this angle of incidence. 22. a) The bluish color predominates in clear sky. b) Violet color is seen at the bottom of the spectrum when white light is dispersed by a prism. State reasons to explain these observations.

23. How does a charge q oscillating at certain frequency produce electromagnetic waves. Sketch a schematic diagram depicting electric and magnetic fields for an electromagnetic wave propagating along the Z direction. Mention its properties. 24. Distinguish the magnetic properties of dia, para and ferro magnetic substance in terms of (i) Susceptibility (ii) Magnetic permeability (iii) Coercivity. Give one example of each of these materials. Draw the field lines due to an external magnetic field near a (i) diamagnetic (ii) paramagnetic substances. 25. Define relaxation time of the free electrons drifting in a conductor. How is it related to the drift velocity of free electrons? Use this relation to deduce the expression for the electrical resistivity of the material. 26. State Gausss law. A thin straight infinitely long conducting wire of linear charge density is enclosed by a cylindrical surface of radius r and length l- its axis coinciding with the length of the wire. Obtain the expression for the electric field, indicating its direction, at a point on the surface of the cylinder. (OR) An electric dipole is kept in a uniform electric field. Derive an expression for the net torque acting on it and write its direction. State the condition under which the dipole is in (i) stable and (ii) unstable equilibrium. 27. Group discussion was arranged in class XII on the topic atmosphere. Three groups were made. Teacher asked the Question. Why can moon be not used as a communication satellite? Answers were given by all the three groups. Each group can give only one reason. Teacher told them that reason given by each group is correct. The groups collected all the three reasons and come to correct conclusion. (i) What values were showed by all the three groups? (ii) Give the correct reason for the above question. 28. (a) Draw the circuit diagram used for studying the input and output characteristics, of an n-p-n transistor, in its CE configuration. Show the typical shapes of these two characteristics. (b) How are the (i) input resistance and (ii) current amplification factor of the transistor determined from these characteristics? (OR) (a) Draw a circuit arrangement for studying V-I characteristics of p-n junction diode in (i) forward bias and (ii) Reverse bias, Show the typical V-I characteristics of silicon diode. (b) State the main practical application of LED. Explain, giving reasons, why the semiconductor used for fabrication of visible light LEDs must have a band gap of at least (nearly)1.8eV. 29. With the help of a suitable ray diagram, derive a relation between the object distance (u), image distance (v) and radius of curvature (R) for a convex spherical surface, when a ray of light travels from rarer to denser medium. (OR) A ray of light is incident on one face of a glass prism and emerges out from the other face. Trace the path of the ray and derive an expression for refractive index of the glass prism. 30. (i) With the help of a labeled diagram , describe briefly the underlying principle and working of a step up transformer. (ii) Write any two sources of energy loss in a transformer. (iii) A step up transformer converts a low input voltage into a high output voltage. Does it violate law of conservation of energy? Explain. (OR) Derive an expression for the impedance of a series LCR circuit connected to an AC supply of variable frequency. Plot a graph showing variation of current with the frequency of the applied voltage. Explain briefly how the phenomenon of resonance in the circuit can be used in the tuning mechanism of a radio or a TV set.
