My Learning Insights in RMC My 6 days hospital exposure in Rizal Medical Center is enjoyable at the same I learned many things from the clinical skills to attitude molding. At first, when Maam Catanghal said we will handle 45 patients. I, myself had no reaction. I was speechless. I thought Maam just exaggerated it but when we are already in the area, I just realized that Maam is really not kidding. We handled 45 patients. Its our first time in handling that number of patients so at first 3 days of exposure, we really experienced difficulty in finishing our tasks on time. We didnt collaborate with each other and theres no flexibility in the members. As days of duty go by, I learned to be flexible even with the most of number of patients handled. We learned to act as functional nurse. We learned to lead our members in their tasks. We learned to chart, to troubleshoot infiltrated IV lines, to prepare and compute medications, to participate in endorsement and to master vital signs taking. We learned to think of a strategy that will make our task easy to accomplish. Maam Catanghal shared a lot of words of wisdom every time we had our post conference and during our break. I really appreciated because through her words of wisdom, we learned how to make our exposure in RMC memorable. She shared her experiences which became an eye-opener to me and to my group mates. She said that our duty in the institution should not merely be accomplishing the tasks assigned but it should be a HABIT. I realized upon hearing that, we should put in our hearts what we experienced and accomplished in every duty because it will be our step stone to be a successful nurse. She also said that being a nurse is not just for income but its all about saving lives of people. She also said that we should always be ready; think for the worst scenario because anytime it will happen and we should do appropriate intervention to the patients. She also said that good attitude with good knowledge is better than being intelligent without a good attitude. She also said that we should be a competent nurse because we are the reflection of Far Eastern University. Whatever our performance in our duty in different hospitals, it reflects what kind of learning and attitude our school imparts on us. During case presentation, she said that we should exert more effort to make our presentation the best. I appreciated the comments that she gave us because she is the only clinical instructor who imparted many words of wisdom which shows that she likes that all her handled students will become a successful nurse with attitude and competent knowledge. Indeed! I must say that exposure with Maam Catanghal in Rizal Medical Center is worthy to remember!! I hope there will be second chance to have duty in the same institution together wioth the same clinical instructor.
