That time of the year has arrived where families come together to celebrate the festive season. It is a time to relax after a long year and equally to show love and compassion to fellow human beings. It is also time to show our spirit of Ubuntu by helping those who cannot help themselves. This is happening while we are commemorating the World Aids and Disability days in memory of those who are living with the disease and disabilities. We also remember those who lost their lives having infected with the disease. It is our responsibility as the society to embrace those who are affected and show good will to human kind. It is also the time where we are faced with road fatalities that claim the lives of our loved ones. We cannot just fold our arms when our roads are becoming death fields. We should all preach the Golden rule Dont drink and drive to every road user. Everyone should be safe on the road and it is our responsibility to do so. We should declare this festive season to be an accident free period and respect the lives of others. We take this opportunity to offer our condolences to those who lost family due to tragic accidents on the roads. To our Matriculants we would like to wish you well in your studies and future endeavours and we are confident that when results are announced we will see a dramatic improvement as compared to last year s results. Our Bursary Fund is there to assist those who did well in Matric and wished to further their studies in institutions of higher learning. We still call upon communities to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Police in order to protect our neighbourhood. On behalf of Greater Tubatse Municipality I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2014. We must all remember that 2014 is the important year in the history of our Country as we will be celebrating 20 years of democracy and it is our wish to see every resident of Greater Tubatse celebrating this huge milestone. We also call upon our people to use the IEC registration weekend in February 2014 to register for general elections to be held in the middle of the year. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Nkosi Josias Mahlake Mayor, Greater Tubatse Municipality

The song is based on a traditional Czech carol. Laerskool Ohrigstad performed the song at the schools prize giving in November. Will you play your best for Him?

13 DECEMBER 2013

Greater Tubatse Municipality is a remote place in certain respects and it was emphasised again this week when people realised that physical participation at the places of mass gathering for mourning former president Nelson Mandela proved to be difficult. Travelling to the district, provincial and national event proved to be almost out of the question. Luckily today an event was scheduled to take place at the C N Phathudi Campus of the FET College in Praktiseer. In the mean time people mourned their hero in their own way, of which a few are depicted on this page. In the top left photograph hawkers in Burgersfort sing the National Anthem, saying he taught us that we must be able to forgive each other and our enemies. To live in peace. We do not want to quarrel with anybody. A woman (photograph, left) who braai mealies next to the road at the Burgersfort, Ohrigstad cross (R 555 Tjunction with the R 36 route in remote local speak) celebrated Nelson Mandela in her own way by wearing a wrap with his face on. Municipal employees in Burgersfort held their own internal memorial meeting in the municipal chambers (bottom photograph), while employees of a fuel station in Burgersfort prayed for their hero (bottom left). In addition to flags been flown half mast, the newspaper also received a number of letters and calls from people such as Mr Jenny Phala, expressing their sadness and condolences. Mr Daniel Makua Marathon called in with the message I signed the condolences book at the municipality, other people should also sign it, he was a great man.

Festive Greetings
As the year 2013 nears its completion and 2014 dawns upon us, we as Sekhukhune District Municipality will like to give a warm congratulations to all of our beloved citizens whom have succeeded in their quest for a better life, and to those whom are still struggling we say dont be dispersed as the dawn of the new year will bring you all the success in your life. Above all the year 2013 will forever be remembered in our young democratic nation as the year south Africans lost one if not the greatest leader of the 20th century former president Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. It is equally disheartening to learn of such horrific incidents that have already claimed over 7 lives in our District this festive season, subsequently the District together with Limpopo Roads and Transport, EMS and SAPS have launched an Arrive Alive Campaign themed Operation Thibela Kotsi which will curb the number of accidents on our roads this festive season. We call upon our Motorists to mind the Speed limit, wear their Seats Belts, Dont Drink and Drive and be mindful of Fatigue. Parents and all elders in the community are responsible to make sure that there is no sale of alcohol to any persons under the age of 18. Government together with the private sector is committed to reduce unemployment rate among youth in the country through skills development programmes, learnerships and internship. We call upon our people this festive season to refrain from violence amongst each other or especially towards Woman and Children, on that note of children, we once more wish our Matriculants the class of 2013 all the best for their final results, and we believe the 75% pass rate envisaged for the district will be obtained. Sekhukhune District offers comprehensive bursary funds to leaners from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and those learners are encouraged to visit municipal offices to retrieve forms and apply. The districts Emergency Hotline 0800 3300 22 is equally available 24/7 during the festive season for your assistance. Let us all embrace and embody the values of our late president Nelson Mandela this festive season and provide support and care to those whom need it the most, especially the children as they are the future leaders of our country. I thank you.
On behalf of the District Municipality, I wish you a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year. Do not Drink and Drive & Arrive Alive and Practice Safe Sex Always. By: His Worship Cllr Mogobo David Magabe The Executive Mayor

Fixing it...

The reservoir at the Burgersfort fire station is continuously leaking water (again). (See photograph right). It is once again a convenient watering hole for cattle in the area. Attempts to fix the supply pipe to the fire station (photograph below), also seemed below standard and well - less successful.

hosts Wellness days

Dwarsrivier Mine held three wellness days during December. The last happened on Wednesday this week. The purpose of these days were to encourage employees to know their HIV status and get access to medical assistance where it is required. Blood pressure, blood sugar, HIV/Aids Testing and Counselling, eye testing and hearing testing were some of the services offered. Various medical aids assisted in the hosting of the day.

The back road between Phiring Village and Leboeng is currently being fixed. Workers were still very busy this week before the end of the years construction calendar.

A cool win at Magaba Vulstasie

Mr Bethuel Mokgotho (second from right) was the lucky winner of an ice maker in a competition that was run inside the shop at Magaba Vulstasie. He participated in a promotion. People shopping at Magaba Vulstasie should look out for the promotional items and opportunities to enter the competitions curently running. On the photograph Mr Carl Lourens and his wife Alida shake hands with Mr Mokgotho.
