Position Held; Mechanical Design
Engineer/Draughtsman
Relevant Skills and Responsibilities
My previous employment role was as a Mechanical Design
Engineer/Draughtsman, for a company which specialises in the Design and
fabrication of specialist well service equipment for the oil and gas industry.
During my employment I have reported directly to the Director of Operations’
and Lead Engineer. Some of the key tasks and responsibilities which I have
been heavily involved in include the following;

• Communication of project objectives to both clients’ and managers’.

• Developing project schedules and quality plans, in keeping with key
quality standards and Legislations including ATEX, EN 12079 and
D.N.V 2.7 – 1, 2 & 3.
• Control of project budget, specifying, sourcing and purchasing parts
and materials.
• Oversee workshop activities.
• Delivery and quality of project.

Furthermore, I have been heavily involved in engineering technical drawing

duties. This has allowed me to gain invaluable experience in various
fundamental areas; I feel this has benefited me in the following ways;

• Proficient in the use of 3D modelling software Autodesk Inventor

PRO, SolidWorks, Frame Generator and Pro-Engineer.
-Develop concept ideas from a blank page through to BOM production
solutions, incorporating a newly developed Material Request Procedure.
• Proficient in the use of 2D Modelling Software AutoCAD.
-Create clear and concise fabrication drawings which are to a British
Standard.
• Skilled in the use of Analytical programmes such as ANSYS, MATLAB
and CFD.
-Ability to validate and verify designs by hand calculations and computer
simulation.
• Able to demonstrate design awareness through Design Review
meetings
-Reactive to design alterations at any stage of the process.
In addition, I feel I have strengthened my knowledge of manufacturing
processes and continued to develop my technical skills whilst working on
some complex engineering issues, maintaining a high level of accuracy
throughout all my deliverables.

During my employment some of the projects which I carried out the

engineering design duties for were as follows:

• Hydraulic Power Packs

- Inc. specifying, sourcing and incorporating CAT desiel Engines, Air
Recievers, Fuel Tanks, Spark Arresting kits and Exhausting Systems into a
12’ CSC Container.
• Compressor Oil Consoles
- Inc. specifying, sourcing and incorporating electric motors, Oil filteration
systems, Oil colling systems and a wide variety of instrumentation onto a
10’ x 10’ console.
• Hydrualic Mixing Systems
- Inc. specifying, sourcing and incorporating desiel Engines, Air Recievers,
spark arresting kits, Mixing tanks, various instrumentation and filtering
elements and exhausting systems into a 12’ CSC Container.

August 2000 – August 2002 Employer; Edwards Engineering
Position Held: Apprentice Fabrication Welder
Relevant Skills and Responsibilities:
I served two years as an apprentice fabrication engineer, attending Perth
College on day release, whilst learning my skills alongside a 'journeyman'. In
my time there, I learned some of the more fundamental aspects of being an
engineer.

1 The importance of Health and Safety in the workplace, and off-site.

2 Basic welding certification (MIG, TIG, MMA.), and Gas Cutting Skills
3 Marking out procedures, cutting skills using both hand held and
workshop based machinery

Key Skills and Achievements

I am a very confident person accomplished in the use of most MS packages,
particularly MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint as a result of the many
presentations I have been required to perform. I am also an Associate
member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (I.MECH.E), which is
something I am continuing to progress through. I also have a full, clean
driving license, and drive my own motor vehicle.

Interests
I am a keen sports enthusiast, football in particular. I am currently sitting the
second of three coaching certificates required a local under 14s football side,
alongside playing amateur football myself. I am also due to gain a mandatory
First Aid certificate in conjunction with this on 19th June 2009. I have also
participated in summer community coaching programmes linked to St.
Johnstone F.C
