Worth of the Weight

The National Football League (NFL) is compiled of some of the best athletes in the world. Recently the league has been marred with controversy over player safety, especially with the topic of concussions and their long-term effects. In such a dangerous game, only the big and strong survive. The NFC East is one of the most competitive divisions in football featuring the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, New York Giants, and Dallas Cowboys. My goal, using a completely randomized design, is to see if there is a statistical difference in the weights of the starting offenses of all four of these teams. Null Hypotheses: Mean Weight of Team 1 = Mean of T2 = Mean of T3 = Mean of T4 Alternative Hypotheses: At least one weight is different from the rest. DATA: The data was collected from the official websitesi of the respective NFL teams and contains the weight in pounds of each of the 11 projected starters on each teams offense. The data was compiled and placed into Minitab. The following outcome was produced:
One-way ANOVA: Weight versus Team
Source Team Error Total DF 3 40 43 SS 761 111700 112461 MS 254 2793 F 0.09 P 0.965

S = 52.84

Pooled StDev = 52.84

(Another graph here shows a statistical F-value of .09 which is smaller than 2.84, putting it in the acceptance region) Results: The key value to look at here is the p-value, which came out to be 0.965. The pvalue of 0.965 is greater than .05, meaning there is NO significant difference in the weight of each starting offense. Because of this outcome we can say that we accept the null hypothesis that the average weight of all four teams are equal and there is no need for a mean comparison test. Pertaining to weight, all four teams are on an equal playing field. Appendix:
