Courses Taught
MUS 113 - Music and Society This course examines the expressive capabilities in western concert music. Different topics will be discussed with relevant literatures. MUS 116 - Music Theory for Non-major In this course, students study basic elements and theories of western classical music. Music appreciation and basic ear-training are also included. No musical background is required. MUS 264 - World Music This course examines the history of contemporary art music in China and Japan since the end of the 19th century. Related topics including the confluence of different cultures, identity and modernism are investigated. MUS 400 - Composition Seminar This seminar examines basic literatures in contemporary concert music tradition and compositional techniques used in them. The final project will be a short composition for small ensemble.
