Scoring Zones
Number of Players: 4 total (2 on each side) Teams made by students finding partners and the oldest ones will both go to one side. Facilities needed: Regular size tennis court Court Dimensions: 78 feet long 27 feet wide (singles) 36 feet wide (doubles) Net strung across middle at 3 feet high Service line 21 feet from each side of the net Doubles alley 4.5 feet wide

Equipment 4 tennis racquets (one for each person) 5-6 tennis balls per court Focus of Game: To practice accuracy and different types of tennis shots

Student Performance Objectives: SWBAT (P) Be able to demonstrate the use of different tennis shots throughout the lesson, 75% of the time. (NASPE 1 & 2, MA CF 2.17) (C) Explain the different uses for different tennis shots on an exit slip provided at the end of class. (NASPE 2, MA CF 2.17) (A) Practice proper tennis etiquette by following the rules for the game throughout the whole lesson. (NASPE 5, MA CF 2.26) Players/Positions 4 players on the court 2 players on each side Rules/Regulations 3

The court is split into different scoring zones. Each zone has a different point value. The two service boxes are worth two points. The box behind them is worth one point. Wherever the point is scored thats how many points it is worth. For example, if the point is scored in one of the service boxes then it is worth two points. Each team member has three serves, and alternate back and fourth. So there are four players and player 1 and 2 are on the same team. Players 3 and 4 make up the other team. After player 1 serves their three turns it would then alternate to either player 3 or 4. Once they serve their three turns, player 2 would then serve. This rotation would continue until the score of 11 is reached. Games are played to 11, win by 2. Safety Concerns Students should hold tennis racquets at their sides when not in game play. Students should not purposely try to hit the tennis ball as hard as possible. Students should be aware of their surroundings when swinging the tennis racquets. Extension Up The doubles alley will be opened up for scoring and be worth 3 points. Extension Down Students are allowed to let the ball hit twice before hitting it back over the net. If the ball bounces more than two times then the point is scored. References http://www.versacourt.com/tennis-court-dimensions.html

One Ball Live

Focus of Game: Practice of forehand and backhand shot and doubles strategy once the ball is live. Student Performance Objectives SWBAT (P) Correctly demonstrate the forehand or backhand shot in both singles and doubles play by the end of the lesson. (NASPE 2, MACF 2.17) (A) Students will show respect for other students and equipment during the whole lesson. This means that the other remaining ball is then played among the four players and the court is no longer split in half. The winning pair then stays on and two new players will enter from the baseline. Singles games are played for only one point. Doubles games are played for three points.

Safety Concerns Students should be aware of their surrounds when swinging the tennis racquets. Students should also be aware of the other students and tennis balls on the court when playing singles and doubles. Extension Up Singles games will be played until three points and doubles games will be played until five points. Extension Down When the singles games are being played the alley will be open in order for the students to have more room on the court. Reference http://tennis1232.blogspot.com/p/one-ball-live.html

Facilities: Regular size tennis court Court Dimensions: 78 feet long 27 feet wide (singles) 36 feet wide (doubles) Net strung across middle at 3 feet high Service line 21 feet from each side of the net Doubles alley 4.5 feet wide 8

(NASPE 2, MA CF 2.17) (A) Show respect for all students and other equipment during the whole lesson. The winner of the point will go to the end of the champs line and the loser will go to the end of the chumps line. The game is played for time not points so how ever many players are on the champs side when time runs out are declared winners and whoever is left on the chumps side lost. Students in waiting in line should be aware of tennis balls that are being hit out of play. Extension Up Instead of playing singles the students will play doubles. Tennis Ping Pong

Number of Players: 4 per court (2 on each side) Students will need to find a partner of the opposite gender. These will be their partners for the games Facilities: Regular size tennis court Court Dimensions: 78 feet long 27 feet wide (singles) 36 feet wide (doubles) Net strung across middle at 3 feet high Service line 21 feet from each side of the net Doubles alley 4.5 feet wide For this game only the four service boxes will be used Equipment One tennis racquet per person. 5-6 tennis balls per court Focus of Game: To develop a quicker reaction time and decision making

Student Performance Objectives SWBAT (P) Correctly demonstrate the tennis shot needed to keep the ball in play during this game for more than 85% of the lesson. (NASPE 1 & 2, MA CF 2.17) (C) Show the knowledge of using the correct amount of force during the game of tennis. (NASPE 2, MA CF 2.17) (A) Show respect and sportsmanship during game play by not excessively hitting the tennis ball. (NASPE 5, MA CF 2.26) Players/Positions Each player will take his or her place in a service box. This game is set up like doubles game play. 4 students per court If there are not enough courts then pairs will wait at the service line and rotate in after the game is over. Rules/Regulations For this game the only part of the court that is in bounds is the service boxes. There will be two players on each side of the court set up in doubles format. All points will be started with an underhand shot. The receiving team must then return the ball without it landing on their side. Once the serve is returned to the serving team they must do the same by hitting the ball without letting it bounce on their side. 10

The players must alternate between them and their partner when hitting the ball. A point is rewarded to a team when the other team makes an error by either letting the tennis ball hit the ground or hitting the ball out of bounds. Depending on the amount of students and time the scores can be played anywhere from 4 to 11 points. Safety Concerns Because only the service boxes are being used for game play, students should be aware when walking behind the players. Students who are in game play should also be aware because they are so close to each other the shots will be quick and students should be paying attention to game play at all times. Extension Up Instead of using just the service boxes, the doubles alleys will be in bounds as well. The back of the service box is still out of bounds but the court just becomes wider. Extension Down The ball can bounce once before the students can return the shot. Reference http://old.escambia.k12.fl.us/adminoff/Phys_Ed/pe/Lesson%20Ideas%20For%20Tennis.p df
