OFID to pump $46 million across Africa 393 mots 12 avril 2012 APA Vienna (Austria) The governing board of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has approved $46 million toward socio-economic development in Africa, a statement from the organization on Thursday revealed. Meeting in its 138th session in Vienna, Austria OFID approved funding in new loans and one grant to pursue socio-economic development in Chad, Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Senegal and Sierra Leone. In Chad the OFID will fund the construction of the 99 km-long paved Massakory-Ngouri-Bol stretch to enhance the countrys trade opportunities and boost access to social services, marketplaces for some 800,000 people living in 40 villages. $12 million has been earmarked for the project. In Congo, the OFID looks to reinvigorate phase two of the Blanche Gomes Hospital by expanding its maternal-child care hospital located in the capital Brazzaville. At least $5 million will be available to construct and equip a new 100-bed facility, thus doubling inpatient capacity. In Lesotho, the OFID involvement will be in the form of a supplementary loan of $3 million for the Metolong Water Supply to build dams, pumping stations and related infrastructure to deliver reliable water suppliesto some 300,000 people in the capital Maseru and three outlying towns. According to the OFID, the Rural Livelihood and Economic Enhancement Program in Malawi will receive $10 million toward strengthening and improving farmers linkages to value chains and establishing more efficient production, transport, storage, processing and marketing systems. It is also aimed at raising incomes and living standards. The organization will provide $6 million to Senegal to upgrade the Dalal Jamm Hospital, equipping the 300-bed referral hospital that will serve over 1.4 million inhabitants living in Greater Dakar. The 70 km Matotoka-Yiye road rehabilitation project in Sierra Leone costing $10 million will ensure access to key agricultural areas and improve the transport of produce and inputs, as well as links to social services for some 960,000 people. A grant of $600,000 will help upgrade the Radiation and Isotopes Center in Khartoum, the Sudan, the largest radiotherapy facility in the country the OFID statement added. Since its inception, OFID has committed over $13.8 billion in much-needed concessional development financing to 132 developing countries around the world, with priority given to the poorest amongst them.

Pour le Sngal, il s'agit d'un prt complmentaire de six millions de dollars US (environ trois milliards de francs CFA) pour la construction et l'quipement de l'hpital Dalal Jamm de Dakar. Cette infrastrucure doit disposer d'une capacit de 300 lits et pourra desservir plus de 1,4 million d'habitants vivant dans l'agglomration de Dakar, selon la mme source. Le Tchad a bnfici de 12 millions de dollars (environ six milliards de francs CFA) pour la construction de la route Massakory-Ngouri-Bol, un tronon routier de 99 kilomtres qui permettra d'accroetre les possibilits commerciales du pays et d'amliorer l'accs aux services sociaux et aux marchs pour quelque 800 mille habitants d'une quarantaine de villages. Le Congo a bnfici de cinq millions de dollars (environ deux milliards etb demi de francs CFA) pour l'extension de l'hpital Blanche Gomes, une structure sanitaire pour mre/enfant situe Brazzaville. Le prt permettra aussi de construire et d'quiper un nouveau btiment de 100 lits, qui doublera la capacit d'accueil existante de cet hpital. Au Lesotho, l'OPEP viendra en appoint avec un prt complmentaire de trois millions de dollars (environ un milliard et demi de francs CFA) pour un projet d'approvisionnement en eau, Metolong. Il s'agira de construire des barrages, stations de pompage et infrastructures associes permettant d'approvisionner en eau, de manire fiable, quelque 300 mille personnes rsidant dans la capitale, Maseru, et dans trois villes environnantes, lit-on dans le communiqu. Pour le Malawi, 10 millions de dollars (environ cinq milliards de francs CFA) seront destins au programme d'amlioration des conditions de vie et de dveloppement conomique en milieu rural. L'objectif est de renforcer l'amlioration de l'accs des agriculteurs aux chaenes de valeur et l'tablissement de systmes de production, transport, stockage, traitement et commercialisation plus efficaces, pour un accroissement des revenus, explique-t-on. En Sierra Leone, 10 millions de dollars (environ cinq milliards de francs CFA) seront allous pour la rhabilitation de la route Matotoka-Yiye, un axe de 70 kilomtres qui traverse d'importantes zones agricoles. Ces travaux permettront d'amliorer le transport des produits et des intrants, ainsi que l'accs aux services sociaux pour quelque 960 mille habitants, selon l'OPEP.

L'OFID a aussi accord une subvention de 600 mille dollars (environ 300 millions de francs CFA) pour moderniser le Radiation and Isotopes Center de Khartoum, la plus grande installation de radiothrapie du Soudan, lit-on dans le communiqu.
