DEVELOPMENT OF INTERACTIVE MATHEMATICAL GAME FOR ANDROID DEVICE

INTRODUCTION

Many students find learning mathematics difficult, and do not like studying mathematics. Sedighian [1997] states that the difficulty in helping students learn mathematics is twofold: one is to motivate them to want to spend time and engage in mathematical activities, the other is to aid them cognitively to construct mathematical knowledge. Some researchers suggest that computer games can be highly effective in increasing childrens learning and enjoyment of mathematics [Klawe, 1998a; Randel, Morris, Wetzel and Whitehill, 1992].

Statement of the Problem The following are some problems that need to be solved: How should a learning environment motivate children to explore the underlying mathematical concepts? How should the user interface be designed to support childrens learning of mathematical concepts?

Importance of the Study

Objectives of the Study

Generally, this study aims to develop an interactive mathematical game for android devices. It seeks to give knowledge about mathematics subject and to let the users have fun while learning. Specifically, it aims to: 1. gather and analyze the requirements for planning the development of the interactivity of mathematical game for android using research and interviews; 2. design the physical plan and model of a mobile application that will make mathematical game more interactive and efficient; 3. develop a mathematical game that will also be a learning platform using Eclipse JUNO including programming languages such as XML and JAVA; 4. to test and assure the quality of the mobile mathematical game using Alpha Testing and Beta Testing and; 5. to deploy a mobile application that is accessible and will be a learning platform for mathematics.

Time and Place of the Study The study will be conducted gathered researches and related information at Cavite State University - College of Business and Entrepreneur, Imus, Cavite.
