15 Council. That associationhad a membershipof approximately 3,000 at its height. The

T6 associationwas/is a grassroots organizationthat works to advancethe NRA's

17 interpretationthat the SecondAmendment to the United StatesConstitution guarantees

t9 13. I believe that this work is especially important given the current interpretationof that

20 right under current California and Ninth Circuit judicial opinions.

22 interview of me that was printed in a Silicon Valley Magazine article that was published

23 on August 6, 2000. A true and correct copy of the table of contentsof the magazineand

25 15. I believe that the "right to keep and bear arms" as a core political right that can be

26 conveyedvia the possessionof firearms at a gun show for the following reasons:

3 b. Additionally, some of the "race neutral" gun control laws that existedin Northern

4 and Southern Statesafter the Civil War were routinely enforcedonly against

6 c. BecauseI am descendedfrom racial minorities, I am particularly sensitizedto the

25 jealous of its liberry, alive; I take every opportunity I can to

26 convey "the right to keep and bear arms." This includesattending

27 and participating in gun shows where I have the freedomto

t9 Presidentin the last election, in possessionof a shotgun,while hunting in the

20 Midwest, I understoodthat he wanted to convey the messagethat he was friendly

2l to huntersand gun owners. I did not believe him. But I understoodhis message.

22 h. I have personallywitnessedformer NRA PresidentCarleton Heston raise an

23 antique SharpsRifle over his head and simply state:"From my cold deadhands."

24 V/ith no other words said, his possessionof the firearm while simultaneously

25 saying that phraseconveys a messageto me that the NRA's interpretation of the

26 SecondAmendmentis worth fighting for. I have observedsimilar

27 demonstrations,with less famous speakers,at other gun shows throughout

 I 17, I have personally witnessed,over the past 10 years,the closing of many venuesfor the

2 "gun culture." Many storeswhich used to carry firearms have beenclosed or zonedout

J of existence. Shootingrangesin the Bay Area havebeenclosed.Gun showshavebeen

4 bannedat fairgrounds in Marin County, SantaCruz, San Mateo, Sonomaand of course

5 Alameda County. Although I am supportiveof Russ and Sally Nordyke and consider

6 them good friends, I would never attend a gun show that did not permit its patrons,

7 exhibitor and vendorsto possessand/ordisplay actual (as opposedto pictures of)

I firearms. The idea that a gun show can take place without guns presentis nonsense.

9 18. There is a whole host of technical reasonswhy handling a firearm (especially a used

10 firearm) is necessarybefore making a purchase.For example:

1l a. As a collector of new and used modern firearms, the ordinancebanning the

t2 possessionof actual guns at gun showspreventsme from performing a proper

13 assessmentof the condition of a firearm. Which cannot be made without

t4 inspecting the ftrearm. Therefore an agreementon price or value cannotbe made

15 with regard to that firearm. How is a contract for "sale" supposedto take place

16 when there can be no meaningful discussionabout the essentialterms of that

t7 contract? The NRA Condition Standardsfor Firearms Values recommendsa

18 "hands-on" inspectionto determinethe condition of a firearm.

l9 b. Furthermorethe following specific safety inspectionsand measurementsfor fit

20 should be performedbefore contracting to purchasea handgun:

2l (1) On all new and usedhandgunsit is necessaryfor the purchaserto

22 check the size of the grip and weight and balanceof the firearm to

23 insure that the gun is not too big or little for the intendedowner.

24 (2) When purchasinga used revolver - (1) The hammer should turn

25 the cylinder to the next chamber,and lock it in place. (2) A

26 revolver, when cocked,should have very little play in the cylinder.
