The Aegir is a Monohull vessel with the capability to execute complex deep water infrastructure and pipe line projects in ultra deep water, and also with sufficient lifting capacity to execute installation of fixed platforms in relatively shallow water. A key attribute of the vessel will be its fast transit speed. HMC believes this will complement its existing fleet providing a unique fleet composition, which will allow HMC to continue to offer unrivalled services to the offshore oil and gas industry on a world-wide basis. The vessel is scheduled for completion mid-2013.

J-Lay Tower

HMC operates a J-lay system on its Deepwater Construction Vessel Balder. The Tower can operate in Hex-joint or in Quad-joint mode. Key features of the tower are: Huge capacity for heavy pipe, in-line structures and pipe-in-pipe in ultra deepwater Safe handling of heavy pipelines by hang-off on collars Open Tower structure allows passage of voluminous in-line structures Tower aft position enables crane assistance during handling of in-line structures and hand-over of SCRs Fully equipped for pipe-in-pipe systems A&R system The primary component of the Abandonment and Recovery system is the A&R winch. This winch is equipped with a 3,600 m long 138 mm diameter wire with a safe working load of 475 t. Where this capacity is insufficient, assistance of the MLD winch is connected to bring the A&R capacity in compliance with the hoisting capacity of the Tower. As the pipe is lowered and the pipe weight decreases, the MLD wire is released and the operation completed with the A&R winch. Side-step facilities HMCs J-lay Tower possesses a unique feature for the handling of voluminous in-line structures: the side-step facilities. All components of the Tower which are normally closed around the pipe the hang-off module, the work stations and the stinger can be opened at the bow side. The hang-off module can be moved outside the Tower, in order to receive or hand over in-line structures from or to the portside crane. This crane is provided with a fly-jib and a hoist of 1,000 t plus 10% dynamics, which can bend over the J-lay Tower to perform the side-step operation. The side-step facilities are suitable to install voluminous in-line structures and start-up or end terminations of maximally 18 x 6 x 4.5 m in the pipeline without interruption of the laying process. The side-step facilities allow also crane assistance during hand-over of SCRs to floating or fixed structures. 0 0 2000

Mooring Line Deployment Winch

sheathing pressure [MPa] The Mooring Line Deployment Winch has been designed specifically for the deployment of sensitive sheathed spiral strand wire or fibre rope moorings in deepwater. Features Control from the bridge, in close co-operation with DP operator Constant tension facility Load monitoring Length monitoring Winch can be tilted to facilitate correct spooling Sheathing pressure Due to its large diameter, sheathing pressures are extremely low. Even with the heaviest mooring lines and the most conservative rules, safe installation down to 3,000 m and more is possible.

HMC owns and operates a complete range of hydraulic hammers, up to the heaviest in the world. All these hammers are suitable for pile driving both above and under water. The energy output is continuously variable between 30 and 100%. MHU-500T The most recent addition to HMCs spread of under water hammers is the two MHU-500Ts. These hammers are specifically designed for pile driving in deep water with minimal loss of efficiency. The hammers are rated to deliver at least 475 kN.m to the pile in 2,000 m of water.

Girdle power packs The MHU-500T hammer are driven by a girdle power pack positioned around the hammer. The electrical hydraulic pumps on the power pack are powered by means of using an electrical umbilical. An electric umbilical is the most efficient way of energy transfer over the great distance between vessel deck and hammer. Provisions have been built in the hammers and power pack to adapt them to 3,000 m water depth once this is desired.
