Their dynamics and interplay govern and influence peoples daily lives and existence. For most of their lives human beings find themselves caught and entangled in the web of society and culture and are often confused on how to make sense of their lives in the modern world. It is therefore essential that a systematic and well-founded analysis and understanding be accorded to such concepts like society and culture. C+,-SE DESC-I0TI+& This is an introductory social science course that integrates the theoretical and methodological frameworks of both sociology and anthropology in understanding the nature and dynamics of society and culture. It engages a comparative approach of both macro and microsociological perspectives of concepts across societies and cultures with emphasis on hilippine realities particularly the !indanao context. C+,-SE +B1ECTI2ES "t the end of the semester# the students should be able to$ %. explore the multidimensional and complex nature of human society and culture and thus gain valuable insights into the social structures which people create to maintain social order& '. understand how people interact socially within groups# organi(ations# and in the society at large and thus develop sociological imagination so as to better understand their social world and the forces at work therein& and ). ac*uire the essential analytical skills and critical thinking that shall help them broaden their understanding# analysis# and appreciation of the Filipino society and culture. +3erriding /earning +utcomes In addition to the more content related ob+ectives described above# this course has some general liberal learning goals.
