COMMODORES NEWS
O YAL L A K E O F T H E W O O D S YAC H T C L U B
29th June 2010
The Commodores Reception produced a really good crowd, a reasonable evening of weather and a tremendous atmosphere to welcome summer. This kick off was preceded by a successful inaugural Konantz Cup (reported elsewhere). Jan Fletcher's flowers were blooming, the Club looked great and the new recognition Boards were on display. Sales were brisk of the fancy lines being carried by Royal Wear. On Monday the Club hosted an historic first, welcoming the Kenora Rotary Club for a lunch. Some 50 local members attended, some also members of the RLWYC, but many had never been to the Club. This is the first time in living memory that a local quasi official organisation of any kind has come to the Club! They were made most welcome. The Clubs membership now comes from the following regions: Kenora 12% (growing rapidly), Winnipeg 49%, the rest of Canada 30%, USA 21% and the rest of the world 3%.
CLUB DINING
Similar to last year, the Club will be having a dinner every Thursday night hosted by a Member of the Executive. They will invite friends but all of the membership is welcome to reserve tables on these nights. The menu will consist of a three course meal with various choices for the entree. This is a great opportunity to dine with friends and family. Royal Hour will continue every Friday evening starting at 5:30pm followed by a BBQ buffet at 7:30pm for those wishing to stay. New this year, we will be offering a wider variety of barbequed entrees. Come see what delicious surprises Chef Dan has in store every Friday. The cost will remain at $25 per person. This year a new lunch service will be initiated in addition to casual service at the canteen. Lunch will now be served on the decks at the Club. This service will include our fresh summer menu with a variety of tasty entrees, appetizers, desserts and beverages. The lunch menu will be available every Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hope to see you on the patio!

TENNIS NEWS
The 2010 tennis programme kicked off on June 28th, with camps for juniors and a clinic for adults. Junior Camps: Plenty of places remain in all Junior Camps, so sign up your children for excellent coaching and watch their game develop over the summer. Adult Clinics: Clinics are scheduled every Monday at 3.00pm and will run for one hour. The first clinic focused on Doubles Play Strategy, but new topics will be covered each week. Sign-up sheets are be posted in the tennis lounge. We also have junior, mens and ladies ladders. These provide members the opportunity to meet other players whilst also (hopefully!) progressing up the ladder. To join up, please fill out a card, available in the tennis lounge. This summer we are providing junior players with the opportunity to have structured court playing time outside of camps. Juniors are invited to take part in the ladders, to play during Royal Hour tennis and to sign up for Teen tennis, Saturday morning classes and private lessons. Saturday morning classes commence on 3rd July. Sessions will run from 9.30 to 10.30am and will be run regardless of how many juniors sign up to play. Coaches will be available EVERY Saturday morning, except on the 24th July and 7th Aug when tournaments are taking place. Please sign up on the sheets posted in the tennis lounge or register on line. Ladies and Mens Tennis sessions commence this week. New for this year, lunch will be served on the deck outside Court 1 on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12.00noon: a delicious salad and a glass of chilled white wine or beer - a perfect way to end the morning! Questions about the tennis programme should be directed to Gill Gardner, gill.gardner@rlwyc.ca
