This specification defines the minimum requirements for the materials, fabrication, installation, inspection and testing of all piping systems to be used on vendor fabricated skids, in-house fabricated skids and off-skid. 2. 3. Design & Fabrication 3.1 General 3.1.1. All piping, valves and associated items shall be designed, procured, fabricated and installed in accordance with ASME B31.3 or ASME B31.8 as appropriate for the piping class and service designations setout in Appendices A and B of this specification. Field weld ends of pipe spools shall have a minimum of an extra six (6) inches to assure adequate length when fitting in place. Dimensional tolerances for the fabrication and installation of piping systems shall be +/- 1/8 inch and +/-2 degrees. A inch 316 SS ball valve with SS plug shall be installed on the top of piping at all high points and on the bottom at all low spots. High point vents and low point drains shall be installed prior to hydrotesting. Preparations for butt welding pipe ends having unequal wall thicknesses shall be in accordance with the applicable ASME standard. Threaded bushings shall not be used; except where required to install pressure instruments and in plastic piping. Eccentric reducers (flat side up) shall be installed in pump suction lines. Ells shall be long radius unless otherwise specified. Ells on instrument air lines less than 2 inch in size shall be screwed tees with plugs. Ball valves will be installed at the ends of instrument air headers and at the end of pipe runs where piping goes vertically upwards. Drain valves will be installed at low points. Branch connections for instrument air headers shall be taken off the top and each branch shall be provided with a inch 316 SS ball valve. All open ended threaded connections shall have a 316 SS heavy Hex head plug installed. All-thread pipe nipples shall not be used. Unless specified otherwise, corrosion allowance for B31.3 piping is assumed to be 0.05 inch.
3.2
Piping Layout 3.2.1. Sufficient clearance should be allowed between lines to permit ready access for repair or removal. A minimum of 1 inch shall be allowed between pipe and adjoining flanges on parallel lines. Insulation thickness must be taken into consideration.

The suction lines of pumps shall be as short and direst as possible, eliminating all vapour pockets. Flexibility and support shall be provided to minimize the load transmitted to the pump. Relief valves shall be installed in a upright position and in a location accessible from a platform or grade. Relief valve outlet lines in process service which are indicated by the drawings to be routed to the flare shall slope to main flare header avoiding pockets where possible. All equipment requiring frequent attention of the operating and maintenance personnel shall be readily accessible. Equipment such as control valves shall preferably be grouped at main operating levels. Equipment such as motor operated valves and relief valves shall be accessible from platforms or grade. Platforms shall be of such extent that normal maintenance at manways and installation of blinds will not require reaching outside of the handrails Where equipment is designed to be removed for repair or replacement, the piping shall be arranged to allow removal of the equipment without removing the block valves adjacent to the equipment or large quantities of associated equipment. Piping, including auxiliary piping, shall be arranged so as to not unduly hinder in-place maintenance of the equipment. A continuous piece of pipe shall be used between fittings 10 feet or less apart (no spliced pipe)
3.3
Welding 3.3.1. All pipe welding shall be in accordance with ASME B1.3, or ASME B31.8 as appropriate for the piping class and service designations setout in Appendix A of this specification. The welding procedures shall be established in accordance with the applicable ASME code and shall be approved by Company before fabrication may begin. All welders employed by Contractor and subcontractors shall be qualified by testing for the specific type of welding they are to perform. All shop welds shall have pre-assigned weld numbers metal stamped two inches from the edge of the weld. Weld numbers shall be assigned on a set of piping isometric drawings with one copy to be furnished to Companys inspector. The welds shall be stamped prior to radiography. Field and shop pressure piping welds made as a part of the work covered by these specifications shall be stenciled by low stress concentration dies with a letter or symbol which shall identify the welder. The symbol shall be located on a filed flat area on the weld cap. When a welder is terminated, his symbol shall not be used again by another welder. The ends of all pipe to be butt welded shall be beveled. Field cut piping shall be formed by a beveling machine and all irregular surfaces smoothed with a

hand grinder to make an acceptable joint. Any beveled edge of pipe that has been damaged shall be restored to minimum tolerances before welding. All edges or surfaces to be welded shall be cleaned to bright metal in a manner suitable to remove any oxides, scale or contamination due to flame cutting or machining. All welds shall be of sound deposit with a straight line of fusion. The finished weld contour shall be uniform with the toe or edge of the weld merging smoothly into the base material. Butt welds shall have a slight reinforcement built-up gradually from the toe or edge towards the center of the weld. Fillet welds may be slightly concave on the finished surface. Butt Welds shall have full penetration and complete fusion with a maximum of 1/8 inch weld metal protruding inside the pipe. Back-up rings shall not be used. Should lamination or split ends be discovered in the pipe, the full length containing such defects shall be removed. No portion of such discarded joints shall be used. Any cracks, blowholes, cold lap, unusual irregularities, slag, flux or other impurities that appear on the surface of any weld bead shall be removed by grinding or chipping before depositing the next successive bead. All finished welds shall have any oxides and slag removed by grinding wheel or disc. No welding shall be done when weather conditions would impair the quality of the weld. Company will determine if weather conditions are not suitable for welding. All material shall be preheated to approximately 70F prior to welding. All material with the wall thickness of .750 inch or greater shall be preheated to 200 to 300F. Weld joints in carbon steel be stress relieved in accordance with ANSI B31.3 when the nominal pipe thickness is greater than 3/4 inch. Contractor shall obtain Companys written approval for his stress relieving method and procedure prior to its use. The piping shall be brought to temperature and cooled in accordance with the ASME Code, Paragraph UCS-56 of section VIII. Pipe and fittings with welding arc burns shall be replaced at Contractors expense if deemed necessary by company.
3.4
Flanged Connections 3.4.1. Flanged bolt holes shall symmetrically straddle the piping horizontal and vertical centerlines except where connections to equipment dictate otherwise. 3.4.2. All ring gasket connections shall be thoroughly cleaned and shall be adequately greased before the gasket is put in place
3.4.3. Flange bolts shall be tightened evenly and sequentially to impose equal pressure on the gasket and to avoid distortion or overstressing of equipment. 3.4.4. All Flange stud bolts shall be sized as per ANSI Standard B31.5, except than 3/4 shall be added to the lengths. 3.4.5. All flange hubs shall match bores, and have tensile properties comparable to those of the adjacent piping material. 3.4.6. Threaded flanges may be used only to match equipment and specially items. 3.5 Threaded Connections 3.5.1. Pipe threads shall be clean cut and shall be tapered in accordance with ANSI B2.1. All threads shall be thoroughly cleaned before fabrication. 3.5.2. A copper based high temperature thread lubricant shall be used for threading piping connections in high temperature services. Teflon tape shall be used on all other threaded connections. 3.5.3. Seal welding of threaded connections shall not be permitted. 3.5.4. Fittings not covered by the code will be installed according to fittings manufacturers recommendations and standard industry practice. No fittings shall be used that were not designed for the purpose. 3.5.5. All unions shall be hammer-lug with steel ground joint integral seats.
3.6
Pipe Supports 3.6.1. All pipe supports, guides, U-Bolts, clamps, nuts and anchors shall be provided by Contractor as necessary to prevent sagging, stress, vibration and as specified in drawings and specifications. Minimum size members for pipe supports shall be 2 x 2 x 1/4" angle 2 pipe or 4 wide flange beam. Dummy leg supports may be made of 2 pipe. 3.6.2. All piping shall be sufficiently supported in a manner that will not put undue strain on equipment. 3.6.3. When specified, spring supports shall be installed in accordance with manufacturers recommendations with the load as noted on the drawings. Temporary, rigid supports shall be furnished when required to prevent damage to the spring support. 3.6.4. All structural steel for pipe supports shall conform to ASTM A36 for plates and shapes and ASTM A106 Grade B or API 5L Grade B for pipe unless noted otherwise on the drawings.
3.6.5. All U-Bolts shall be fabricated in accordance with the following rod diameter table, and shall be cadmium plated. U-Bolts shall be provided with flat washers and double nuts. Pipe Size -1 1-1/4-2 2-1/2-5 6-8 10 12-16 Rod Size 1/4" 3/8 1/2 5/8 3/4" 7/8
3.6.6. All overhead pipe racks shall be supported by deck beams where possible or have header beams of equal size to the pipe rack support beam. 3.7 3.8 Insulation shall be installed where indicated on drawings. All piping shall be painted in accordance with Specification no EN/TS-102-Protetive Coatings. Piping spools, pipe supports, valves, control, and other equipment items shall be sandblasted and painted with the primer and intermediate coats prior to assembly.
4. General 4.1 Piping systems including piping, valves and fittings shall be furnished , fabricated, installed, inspected and tested in accordance with reference materials listed in Section 2.0 of this specification and as specified herein. Mechanical flow sheets, piping assembly, and/or isometric drawings define each pipes size, service, line number, pressure class, schedule, valve identification, dimensional data and other pertinent details of that piping system. Information on the drawings and in specifications shall be strictly adhered to during fabrication and installation of each piping system, unless authorized otherwise by company. During erection of piping on skids or decks, Contractor shall ensure that vessel and equipment flanges and openings remain covered to minimize collection of trash or debris in the equipment. Completed, prefabricated piping spools shall be internally cleaned to remove blasting sands, weld splatter, and other debris before being used for assembly of piping systems. Contractor shall take suitable precautions to prevent accumulation of sand, trash, or other debris in the piping as it is being erected.

Materials can be of domestic (U.S) manufacture or non US manufacture, and shall be furnished in accordance with the respective piping class and service designations set out in Appendices A and B of this specification. Substitutions will be permitted, with Companys written approval, when specified items cannot be obtained provided the quality of substituted materials equals or exceeds the specified materials. Material test reports shall be provided for all pipe used in pressure services. All O-let fittings shall be ASTM A-105 forged. All materials shall be new, unused, and undamaged.
6. Inspection 6.1 General 6.1.1. The responsibility for quality control rests with Contractor. Company may provide additional inspection services at his expense and may inspect piping at any time during its fabrication, installation, or testing to assure that materials and workmanship are in accordance with these specifications. 6.1.2. Contractor will provide radiographic inspection. 6.1.3. Companys inspector shall be given suitable notice of scheduled inspections and tests to assure his attendance. 6.2 Visual Inspection
All welds shall receive a complete visual inspection in accordance with the applicable ANSI code.
6.3
Radiographic Inspection 6.3.1 6.3.2 6.3.3 All piping welds shall receive 100% radiographic examination by contractor. The radiographic procedure and acceptance criteria shall be in accordance with the applicable ANSI code for 100% radiography. All welds found to be defective shall be repaired and reradiographed at Contractors expense. The applicable ANSI code shall be used as a guide in repairing defective welds. Radiographic inspection shall be performed in accordance with the following guidelines: Only piping butt welds will be radiographed, weld-lets and thread-olets will not be radiographed.

Film will be Kodak M film or approved equal, minimum 70mm width, three shots per weld, minimum Film will be shot head-on, no elliptical shots. Companys representative shall review and approve all radiographs. Contractor shall be responsible for preparing and maintaining a weld traceability/numbering system for all piping welds. Contractor shall pre-assign weld numbers to each weld to be made and record this on a set of piping isometrics. Weld numbers are to be stamped adjacent to the weld on the pipe using low stress stamps. All radiographs/reports/repairs shall reference these pre-assigned numbers. A copy of these isometrics shall be provided with a copy of all x-ray reports to Company representative. The film and film records shall be maintained by Contractor for a period of two years after completion of the project.

Contractor shall furnish Companys inspector with a copy of their qualified welding procedures and welder qualification records.
7. Testing 7.1 7.2 7.3 Hydrostatic tests shall be performed by Contractor on all piping in accordance with the applicable ANSI code and as specified herein. All hydrostatic tests shall be witnessed by company. Three (3) days notice of test dates shall be provided. Pressure recorders used for the test shall be of such range that the pressure to be recorded will fall within the upper three-quarters (3/4 ths) of the recorders range. Pressure recorder shall be calibrated with a dead weight tester prior to each pressure test. Calibration shall be witnessed and certified by Company. In addition, if specified by Company, a dead weight tester shall be installed and pressures recorded during each test. Prior to beginning the pressure testing of the piping system, Contractor shall prepare a schedule showing each section of piping that is to be tested at one time. Fresh water shall be used for all process piping tests. Instrument air systems shall be tested with air. Fuel gas systems shall be tested with air or nitrogen. The use of any liquid for a test shall have prior written approval of Company. The water used for hydrostatic testing shall be chemically treated to prevent corrosion. Two gallons of Tretolite KW12 and 0.5 gallons of Tretolite K490 shall be used per 100 barrels of water. These inhibitors shall be added separately and thoroughly mixed in the water.

Test pressures shall be 1.5 times the maximum working pressure at 100F as given on the appropriate Piping Material specification sheet. The duration shall be a minimum of two (2) hours. Consideration shall be given to components in the lines which are nor rated for the specified test pressure or which have built-in relief valve, such as instrument regulators, etc. Contractor shall identify those components and protect them from damage which may result from the hydrostatic test. All materials damaged during test shall be replaced by Contractor at no additional cost to Company.

7.10 All leaks and defects shall be repaired and retested at no additional cost to company. 7.11 The test will be considered satisfactory after all leaks and defects have been repaired and the full test pressure is held for the duration specified. 7.12 Following the completion of satisfactory hydrostatic tests, all piping system shall be drained and dried. Company shall verify drying completion. 7.13 Contractor shall furnish certification and copy of recording chart for the test of each piping system unit. Recording chart shall be signed by companys inspector as witness and shall contain date of test and appropriate identification of section tested.
