SECTION 16140 WIRING DEVICES PART 1 - GENERAL

To be read in conjunction with design drawings and all other contract documents including general specifications/requirements provided by the main consultant. 1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS:

A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and any other document forming part of the Tender Package, apply to this Section. B. ID drawings, Kitchen & Laundry drawings, Landscape drawings, small power & Lighting drawings etc. 1.02 SUMMARY This section includes all wiring accessories covered under MEP consultants design scope, but contractor shall be liable to provide all the other wiring accessories needed by want of scope & areas covered above in item 1.01B & described else where in the wiring accessories finishes schedule as per specialist lighting designers specific requirements. 1.03 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit each item in the article according to the conditions of the contract, general & supplementary conditions. B. Submit samples for Engineers/ Architects/ Clients/ ID inspection & approval. Samples shall remain at site or as instructed for the entire duration of the project till completion. C. Product data for each component specified, shown on drawings, needed or demanded by Engineer. D. Shop drawings detailing use, installation, fixing, locations etc. 1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE

PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURER:

A. Subject to compliance with requirements as per list of specified manufacturers. B Finishes of the wiring accessories shall be as follows: All Public Areas: as per ID drawings & Architects Engineers approval. All back of the house areas: white plastic range. All hotel guest rooms & apartments as per ID drawings & Architects Engineers approval. Service/Plant rooms & external: Metal Clad/Weather Proof range. Kitchen & Laundry: Water proof metal clad LPG room/ Area and Deisel oil tank areas: Explosion proof type

2.02

SWITCHES

A. Lighting Switches 1. All switches shall comply with BS EN 60669-1. The switch construction shall have a clearance between the contacts in the open position not less than 3 mm as per BS 60364 4. 2. Grid fixing type rated 20 AX unless specified otherwise. 3. Recessed with concealed conduit, surface pattern elsewhere. 4. Quick make slow break type. 5. Single pole, double pole, one way or double way, as indicated. 6. Switches controlling fluorescent lighting shall have a current rating of not less than twice the total steady current which it is required to carry. 7. Grid shall be provided with suitable earthing terminal. 8. All plastic switches shall be manufactured from a material having properties which include anti tracking and non-flame propagation. 9. All switches shall have large terminals to accept 2x2.5 sq.mm conductors. All terminals should preferably have insulated bell mouth terminal guides for each of termination. All switches should preferably have slim rear projection and be suited for mounting in 16mm/25mm/35mm deep boxes as per the requirement to Engineers acceptance approval. B. Waterproof Switches

C. Switch Plates 1. Where two or more switches are grouped together and connected to the same phase, multi-gang devices and common plates shall be used.

DOUBLE POLE SWITCH

A. Shall comply to EN 60669-1 (BS)-2000 B. Unit shall be suitable for installation in boxes to BS4662 having a minimum depth of 35mm. C. Unit shall be rated for 20AX. D. Unit shall be fitted with an earth terminal E. Unit shall be recessed and shall have a matt chrome finish cover plate with the name of the respective equipment engraved. F. Unit shall be provided with a neon pilot lamp indicator.

PUSH BUTTON SWITCHES FOR LIGHT

A. Shall be of the push to make and push to break momentary contact type.

B. MULTIPLE PUSH BUTTONS 1. Where two or more buttons occur in one position they shall be contained in one case and each shall be appropriately labelled to indicate its function. 2.05 SOCKET OUTLETS

A. General Purpose Socket Outlets: 1. To BS 1363 Pt2: 1984 2. 3 rectangular pin (2 P+E) outlets. The front shall be shuttered to operate only on insertion of all 3 pins.The switch socket shall have neon indicator built into the rocker providing illumination at a viewing angle of 175 deg, with combined switch, rated 13A, 230V. 3. The socket outlets shall have double pole switching. Where ever specified, switch socket The socket outlets shall have double pole switching. Wherever specified, switch socket outlets shall incorporate dual earthing to meet the requirements of section 607 of BS 7671, IEE wiring regulations.

B. Weatherproof Sockets: 1. 2. 3. The contractor shall supply and install IP56 weatherproof switches and socket outlets wherever specified on the drawings for outdoor installation. Switches shall conform to BS 3676 Pt 1 and tested for ingress protection in accordance to BS EN 60529. Socket outlets shall conform to BS 1363 Pt 2 and tested for ingress protection in accordance to BS EN 60529. The sockets shall retain their IP56 rating even with the plug inserted in the outlet. 13A Sockets: to have, 3 rectangular pins; 5A and 15A Sockets: to have 3-round pins all within the same assembly. Plugs for 5 Amps and 13 Amps sockets: fused type with single pole cartridge fuse link of same rating as plug. Plugs for 15A sockets: unfused. All IP56 accessories shall be surface mount type complete with boxes with metric entries. All IP56 wiring accessories shall be made from polycarbonate materials with high impact withstand capabilities unless instructed other wise. The range shall have flush mounted frames for flush installation wherever specified.

C. 13 AMPS Duplex Socket Outlet 1. 2. Shall comply to BS 1363: of 1984 The 13 Amps,230V Duplex Socket Outlet Shall contain 2 sets of 3 rectangular pin (2P+E) with in built neon.

D. 15A Socket Outlet: 1. 2. To BS 546 of 1950 The 15A Socket Outlet shall have3 round pin (2 P+E) shuttered with combined switch rated 15 amps at 240 volts.

E. Earth proof Sockets: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 13A Sockets: to BS 1363, 3 rectangular pins, unswitched type. 15A Sockets: to BS 546, 3-round pins, unswitched type. To be complete with weatherproof plugs. Plugs for 13 Amps sockets: fused type with single pole cartridge fuse link of same rating as plug. Plugs for 15A sockets: unfused.

Sockets and plugs: a. To have minimum IP44 grade protection; b. Housing parts: brass or pressure die-cast in 32 base alloy finished in grey hammered stove enamel; c. Plugs: 1) Cable grips shall have rubber compression rings; 2) There shall be rubber gaskets between plug and socket to ensure weather tightness. d. Sockets shall have screw on caps that close tight on socket when plug is not inserted.

Socket Outlet Plates: 1. 1. finish to be glossy white unless instructed other wise Plates on emergency system shall be distinctly engraved to be readily identifiable.

G. Flush 32 AMPS Triple Pole & Neutral Switch 1. Shall comply to EN 60947 -3(BS)-1999 2. Unit shall be suitable for installation in flush mounting boxes to BS5733:1979 3. Unit shall be rated at 440 volts with a motor load rating of up to 12 KW at 400 volts - 3 phase and shall have a utilisation category of AC-22 switching mixed resistive and inductive loads for a continuous duty of 32 amps. 4. Unit shall be fitted with an earth terminal. 5. Unit shall be recessed and shall have the name of the respective equipment engraved. 6. Unit shall be provided with a neon pilot lamp indicator 2.06 .1 FUSED CONNECTION UNITS These shall be to BS 5733, double-pole, switched with neon indicator as specified, insulated pattern, with brushed satin stainless steel face plates or to match socket outlets. Indicating type as for socket outlets. Where used as a flexible outlet to an appliance, they shall be of the flexible outlet pattern with cable anchoring clamp. Fuses shall be provided with each connection unit. 2.07 .1 .2 COVER PLATES Socket outlets and switches finishes to be advised. Socket outlets and switches in unfinished areas and above ceilings shall have metal clad cover plates. Samples of all cover plates shall be provided to the Engineer for approval

prior to ordering. 2.08 SHAVER OUTLETS .1 Shaver outlets shall be Dual Voltage 115/240 Volts output with 240V 50 Hz input. Shaver outlets shall be in accordance with IEC 742. Shaver outlets shall be flush mounted and finishes shall match the accessories in the area Refer to 2.1.1.

INDUSTRIAL SOCKETS 16 AMPERE AND 32 AMPERE RATING .1 .2 Industrial sockets shall comply to BS 4343 and shall be switched. All industrial sockets located internally shall have minimum ingress protection of IP44 and IP65 for external sockets. A single phase sockets shall be 220-250 volts and all three phase sockets shall be 380-415 volts. All sockets and plugs shall have polycarbonate housing. All sockets shall be complete with surface back base and shall be appropriately angled. Each socket shall be complete with plug.

EXPLOSION PROOF PLUG & SOCKET 16A RATED Explosion proof swiches & sockets shall be provided for hazardous areas like Chemical room, Gas plant area etc. or as instructed other wise. These accessories shall have optimal contact by means of laminated contacts, individually encapsulated pins, flexibly embedded. Switches with large handle, can be locked in 0 and 1 positions, with motor switching capacity AC3 acc. To IEC 60 947-3. DOOR BELL General: 1 The contractor shall supply, install and commission a modern low-voltage electronic chime door bell as indicated on the drawing. The contractor shall submit a complete proposal with list of materials and original detailed catalogues of the equipment for consultant/client approval before starting the work

1 Surface-mounted electronic chime in ivory colored ABS plastic housing shall be installed inside the room where indicated on the drawings. The dimensions of the chime shall not exceed 140x140x50 mm 2 The chimes shall be powered directly from the mains of 240V AC. 50-60Hz. Chime shall be preset for 9 Volt battery insertion ensuring operation in case of power failure. 3 Incorporated transformer for the direct connection to the mains. 4 A potentiometer inside the chime shall regulate sound intensity as required. C Door Bell Push Buton: 1 Door bell push button shall be similar to the adjacent wiring accessories.

DISCONNECT SWITCHES AND SWITCH FUSES: (LOAD BREAK TYPE)

A. Generally: 1. To be metal clad with front operated handles interlocked with enclosure to prevent opening switch in the "ON" position. 2. Switch shall have "On/Off" indication and means of locking in "Off" position. 3. Protection class IP65 for outdoor and IP54 for indoor locations. 4. Load break switch and switch fuses should be ARC TESTED complete system (along with enclosure) should be type tested from reputed testing laboratory recognized under LOVAG for degree of protection as well as ARC Testing. 5. Enclosure should have reliable position indicator. If the contacts are welded together, the handle (front operated) should deviate from ONPosition less than 45 deg. 6. Padlocking facility for equipment isolators & stop lock push buttons with keys. 7. NC/NO contacts as needed for interfaces with other trades/systems. 8. Six-pole isolators (6P iso) whether specifically shown or not on the drawings, shall have to be provided by the contractor where ever needed as per manufacturers / equipment requirement for star-delta motors and dual speed motors or as per the final selection and approval of the motor/equipment. B. Fuse Switches And Switch Fuses: 1. To EN 60947 -3-1999. 2. Fuses: to BS 88 bolted type, class Q1, certified for 400V and AC3 duty, rated as indicated. 3. Fused switch carriages: with drawable type. 4. Fuse switches: ASTA certified to 50 kA. 5. Protection class IP65 for outdoor and IP54 for indoor wet locations.

C. Disconnect Switches Or Isolators: 1. Same design as switch fuses, with solid copper links in place of fuses. 2. Single pole and neutral, or triple pole and neutral. 3. Ratings: rated fused short-circuit current 50kA RMS. 4. Protection class IP65 for outdoor and IP54 for indoor wet locations.

Flourescent Dimmers, 230-V Circuits: Controls lights smoothly over a minimum range of 100 to 5 percent of full brightness. Unit Rating: 1900 W, minimum; with each dimming channel rated 600 W, minimum. Wall-Plate Style and Finish: Coordinated with lighting controls specified in other Division 13 and Division 16 Sections.

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION OF OUTLET BOXES

A. Location of Boxes: 1. Determine exact location of boxes on site and obtain the Engineer's approval before commencing installation. 2. Make allowance for overhead pipes, ducts, variations in arrangement, thickness of finish, window trim, panelling and other construction when locating boxes. 3. Outlet boxes in all food preparation areas shall be recessed such that all wiring devices shall be mounted flush with walls. B. Mounting Heights: 1. Mount boxes as indicated or as approved by the Engineer. 2. Where mounting height is not shown or specified, obtain instructions. 3. Boxes for similar equipment: mount at uniform heights within same or similar areas. 4. Switches and socket outlets: mount at 1300mm and 450mm above finished floor level, respectively, unless otherwise indicated. 5. TV/FM outlets, telephone outlets and the like: mount 450mm above finished floor level unless otherwise indicated. C. Fixing: 1. Fix outlet boxes securely. 2. Fix exposed outlet boxes to permanent inserts or lead anchors with machine screws. 3.02 INSTALLATION OF SWITCHES

A. Lighting Switches near doors: 1. Locate at the strike side of the door. 3.03 INSTALLATION OF JUNCTION, PULL AND TERMINAL BOXES

A. Generally: 1. Fix junction, pull and terminal boxes where indicated and where required to facilitate pulling of wires and cables and connection of future appliances. 2. Locate boxes as inconspicuously as possible but accessible after work is complete. B. Pull Boxes: 1. Fix at maximum 10m spacing and to limit the number of bends in conduit to not more than two 90 Deg. bends. END OF SECTION
