EARTHQUAKE PREDICTION BY ASTROLOGY(N.SUNDARA RAJAN B..A).

The severe earthquale that rocked Bhuj in Gujarat on 26th Janaury, 2001 resulting in heavy loss of life and property was still
in the memory of the Nation, when on Septemeber 25, 2001, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Andhra experienced a moderate
earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale. The earthquake had its epicentre about 50 Kilometres off the coast of
Pondicherry in the Bay of Bengal and occured at 8.27 P.M. I.S.T. Tamilnadu was, till then, considered to be a relatively safe
zone and was classified under Zone 2. But after the earthquake, the region is to be classified as Zone3 (Earthquake prone)
According to Media reports. According to Meterologists, there is no scientific method of predicting earthquake occurences
in advance.
I experienced the trremors on September 25 while I was doing some astrology work at home on my computer. Neighbours
and the T.V. Media reported it immediately. I had been, for the past few years, gathering data on earthquakes and had
examined it from astrological and astronomical angles and I have arrived at some tentative data of astrological factors to
identify and predict earthquakes. I am continuing my researches in this field still, with a view to predict the Location of the
earthquakes. So far I have been able to identify the astrological and astronomical factors whfich almost pinpoint the
occurence of an earthquake in some part of the world and the purpose of this article is to share this information with others.
I wish to express my gratitude and thanks to the U.S. Geological Surveys National Earthquake Information Centre for the
precise data on earthquakes. In the discussions, herein, I have chosen some of ;the more severe earthquakes which caused
more than thousand deaths of humans and damage to property. In some of the cases under discussion deaths have been more
than fifty thousand. I have taken the not-so-significant Septemeber 25 earthquake also for comparison of the astrological
factors. I now furnish the data below: and the astrological factors operating at the time of the quakes.

I have listed twenty-five of the most destructive earthquakes in lthe last century ,including the one on Jan 26 th 2001 at Bhuj,
Gujarat. It may be clearly seen that out of these twentyfive most destructive earthquakes costing huge loss of life and
property on this planet earth, TWENTY EARTHQUAKES HAVE TAKEN PLACE WHEN MOON WAS EXACTLY ON
THE EQUATOR, WITH ZERO DECLINATION. THIS IS NO COINCIDENCE AND IS CLEAR, SCIENTIFIC PROOF
FOR THE SOCALLED "SCIENTIST-CRITICS OF ASTROLOGY WHO CLAIM PLANETS DO NOT ACT ON
EARTH OR ITS INHABITANTS. Earlier, in THE SEPTEMBER 1974 SURYAPRAKASH MEMORIAL ISSUE OF THE
ASTROLOGICAL MAGAZINE, I had listed out statistics for 75 years from 1900 to 1974 citing various incidents which
took place on this earth of ours WHENEVER A PLANET TURNED RETROGRADE OR DIRECT FROM STATIONARY
MOTION, WITHIN 24 HOURS, EITHER FORWARD OR BACKWARD.(I still retain copyrights of that article and to
my ;amazement find some people writing about this without even acknowledgemnt to me.) Here also, we find that on the
dates of Earthquakes or shortly before or after (within a day or two) some planet turning Retrograde or Direct. For Example,
see the ;most destructive(in India) Earthquake of January 26,2001 at Guajrat: Both Saturn and Jupiter were Direct the
previous Day!
In this list of earthquakes, we see that in Six eclipses, this phenomena of Direct/Retrograde planets is fulfilled.
In two earthquakes, Venus is on the Equator and in one case, Saturn is on the Equator.
Also, in 22(twenty-two) out of the 25 eclipses taken here for study, the Moon was either New or Full, or in the First or Third
Quarter in her phases., either on the dates of earthquakes or very near to those dates.
Seven earthquakes took place either on the dates of New/Full Moons or within twentyfour hours forward or backward.
Eight earthquakes took place within 3days(In one case, four days) of Full?New Moons;
Seven earthquakes took place when Moon was in either First/Third Quarter.
AGAIN, IT CANNOT BE A COINCIDENCE THAT SUCH A MAJORITY OF EARTHQUAKES TOOK PLACE WHEN
THE ;MOON WAS EITHER FULL, NEW OR IN THE FIRST AND THIRD QUARTERS. In Hindu astrology, the First and

Third Quarters is nothing but ASHTAMI/NAVAMI WHICH IS CONSIDERED INAUSPICIOUS IN ELECTIONAL
ASTROLOGY.
SUMMING UP OUR STUDY:- 1. EARTHQUAKES TAKE PLACE WHEN MOON IS ON EQUATOR WITH ZERO
DECLINATION AND WHEN NEW, FULL MOON OR FIRST/THIRD QUARTER IS VERY CLOSE.
2.EARTHQUAKES TAKE PLACE WHEN OTHER PLANETS ALSO ARE ON EQUATOR WITH ZERO
DECLINATION.
3.IF UNDER SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES, A STATIONARY PLANET TURNS RETORGRADE/DIRECT, AN
EARTHQUAKE IS ALMOST CERTAIN.(other catastrophes also possible).
4.WHEN AN INGRESS OF ANY PLANET ALSO TAKES PLACE INTO ANY ZODIACAL SIGN, WHEN THE OTHER
THREE CONDITIONS ARE FULFILLED,AN EARTHQUAKE IS ALMOST CERTAIN.
I feel happy in contributing this special article to the ANNUAL 2002 A.M. DEDICATED TO MY BELOVED FRIEND THE
GREAT DR.B.V.RAMAN, who tirelessly worked to establish that astrology is based on Science . He personally
congratulated me several times in person and once in an astrological conference in 1982 at Chennai for my original research
on Retrograde Planets published by him in 1974. I wish he had been alive to read this article which would have made him
happier still. I am writing this article here in Chennai on the 1st October, 2001 and before concluding, I wish to point out to
readers of the A.M. the astro phenomena taking place tomorrow: 2nd October, 2001:
Mercury Retrograde on 1 st. /Full Moon on 2 nd./Moon on Equator/Moon ingress Aries 1 st.
I leave it to the learned readers to form their own conclusions whether there may ;be an earthquake on 2nd October, 2001
Somewhere in the world.
