OIL FILLED TRANSFORMER 1.0 GENERAL 1.1 Scope 1.1.1 This specification is intended to cover design, engineering, procurement,

manufacture, inspection and testing at manufacturers works, packing, loading, forwarding, transport and delivery to site of oil filled distribution transformer. 1.1.2 The specific requirements for each transformer and associated equipment shall be given on transformer data sheets. 1.1.3 1.1.4 1.1.5 Supplier shall furnish any special tools and tackles for installation and maintenance. Make of all accessories and hardware shall be subject to owners approval. All the equipments and accessories required for completeness of the equipment, whether specifically mentioned or not, but considered essential for satisfactory performance shall be included as a part of the offered equipment. 1.2 References 1.2.1 Transformer and associated equipment shall conform to relevant IS and IEC standards. Each publication shall be the latest revision and addendum in effect on the date this specification is issued for purchase unless noted otherwise. The equipment shall be in compliance with to all local rules & regulation or safety standards and but nothing in this specification shall be constructed to relive supplier to his responsibility. 1.2.2 In case of any contradiction between various referred standards/specification/data sheets and statutory regulations, it shall be brought to the notice of Client for resolution, before taking a decision. Service Conditions 1.3.1 Expected lifetime of the oil immersed transformer shall be 25 years. The transformer including all individual components/materials forming part of the system shall be suitable for continuous operation for periods of up to minimal 5 year without maintenance, inspection, replacement of any wearable parts or disassembly of the transformer, which require de-energizing. 1.3.2 Equipment shall be designed for a design ambient temperature of +45oC and an altitude not exceeding 1000 meters above mean sea level. Relative humidity of 92% shall be considered for design. 1.3.3 Equipment shall be suitable for operating satisfactorily outdoor in a saline atmosphere.

1.4

Capitalization cost 1.4.1 Capitalization loss formula shall be considered (as per CBIP manual) as follows: Capitalised cost of transformer= Initial cost(IC) + Cost of annual iron losses(Wi) + Cost of annual load losses(Wc)+Cost of anuual auxiliary losses (Wp)

OIL FILLED TRANSFORMER 2.0 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 2.1 General 2.1.1 Each transformer shall be designed for continuous operation at the specified rating, at the specified ambient temperature and site elevation conditions. Transformer ratings shall be as per the datasheets attached. 2.1.2 Transformer shall be of two winding, 3-phase, oil immersed core type with ONAN cooling suitable for outdoor service as step down transformers. 2.1.3 2.1.4 Coolant and insulating fluid shall not contain any PCBs. The system voltage and frequency shall be as per datasheets and variation in these will not be more than: Voltage: Frequency: 2.1.5 10% 5%

Temperature Rise Transformer shall conform to the requirements of temperature-rise specified in IS 2026 (Part II), if not specified in data sheet.

2.1.6

Insulation Levels Insulation levels shall be in accordance with IS 2026 (Part III).

2.1.7

Terminal Markings, Tappings and Connections Terminal markings, tappings and connections shall be in accordance with IS 2026 (Part IV).

2.1.8

Bushings Bushings used on distribution transformers shall comply with IS 2099.

2.2

Rating 2.2.1 Transformer shall also be capable of delivering rated current at a voltage equal to 105 % of the rated voltage. 2.2.2 Unless otherwise stipulated, the transformer impedance values shall be as specified on the datasheets and within the tolerances allowed by IS 2026. Percentage tolerance allowed at extreme tap be shall as applicable to normal tap. 2.2.3 Performance of transformer under external short-circuit conditions shall be in accordance with IS 2026(Part I). 2.2.4 Type of cooling shall be as per ONAN and in accordance with IS 2026(Part II).

OIL FILLED TRANSFORMER 2.2.5 Transformer including all items such as buses and taps shall be designed and constructed to withstand the mechanical and thermal stresses produced by internal and external short-circuits having duration and a magnitude as specified on the datasheet. 2.2.6 2.2.7 The overloading capacity of transformer shall be as per IS 6600/IEC 60354. The bidder shall guarantee individually the no-load loss and load loss without any positive tolerance. The bidder shall also guarantee the total losses at 50% and 100% load condition. 2.3 Basic Construction 2.3.1 Transformer shall meet the latest stage of development reached in design, construction and material. The degree of protection of the enclosure shall be IP 55. 2.3.2 Transformers shall be designed to have short circuit rating of two (2) seconds as per IS:2026. 2.3.3 Tank cover shall be welded and filling and drain orifices shall be sealed and rendered tamperproof. 2.3.4 Means for lifting the complete transformer shall be provided. The bearing surfaces of the lifting means shall be free of sharp edges. Lifting means shall also be provided for untanking of the transformer. 2.3.5 Base of the transformer shall have members that will permit skidding the transformer in the direction of either centreline. Provisions shall be made for pulling the transformer in these directions. 2.3.6 Jacking facilities shall be located near the base of the transformer, and designed so that lifting members of the jack can be inserted. The dimensions, locations and clearances for jacking provisions shall be clearly shown on the manufacturer's drawings. 2.3.7 2.3.8 All indicating devices shall be easily read from base level. All horizontal external surfaces, including the tops of cable termination boxes, shall be angled / designed to aid shedding of rain water. 2.3.9 Transformer and accessories shall be so designed as to facilitate inspection cleaning and repairs. The requirement of Indian Electricity Rules shall be kept in view. 2.3.10 Cast iron shall not be used for any parts other than the large valve bodies. 2.3.11 All taper pins to be used in the mechanism shall be split type as per latest edition of IS:2393.

OIL FILLED TRANSFORMER 2.3.12 All mechanism should be rust and corrosion proof. Means shall be provided for lubrications of moving parts not immersed in oil. 2.4 Core 2.4.1 Core shall be made from high grade CRGO silicon steel (High B Grade type M-4 or superior grade CRGO steels of maximum 0.27 mm or low lamination thickness especially suitable for transformer core). The name of the core material must be mentioned in the bid. 2.4.2 Maximum magnetic flux density in any part of the core & yoke at the rated MVA, voltage & frequency shall not exceed 1.7 Tesla at principal tapping. 2.4.3 Design of magnetic circuit shall be such as to avoid static discharge development of short circuit paths within itself or to the earthing clamping structure and the production of flux components at right angles to the plane of the lamination which may cause local heating. 2.4.4 All joints shall be brazed / crimped considering the vibrations due to short circuits and load fluctuations. 2.5 Windings 2.5.1 HV and LV windings shall be wound from Super Enamel covered / Double Paper covered copper conductor/foil winding. 2.5.2 Winding coil shall be so designed that the current density at any tap should not exceed 250 Amp./ sq.cm. in HV & regulating winding and 200Amp./ sq.cm. in LV winding. 2.5.3 The core/coil assembly shall be securely held in position to avoid any movement under short circuit conditions. 2.5.4 Joints in the winding shall be avoided. However, if jointing is necessary the joints shall be properly brazed and the resistance of the joints shall be less than that of parent conductor. In case of foil windings, welding of leads to foil can be done within the winding. 2.6 Tank Construction 2.6.1 Tank shall be fabricated of a suitable grade steel and strong enough to allow the lifting of complete transformer with oil by means of a crane or jacks and transported to site without over-straining the joints etc. 2.6.2 Under operating conditions the pressure generated inside the tank should not exceed 0.4 kg/ sq. cm positive or negative. There must be sufficient space from the core to

OIL FILLED TRANSFORMER the top cover to take care of oil expansion. The space above oil level in the tank shall be filled with dry air or nitrogen conforming to commercial grade of IS 1747. 2.6.3 Main tank body shall be capable of withstanding a vacuum of 70 kN/m2 (525 mm of Hg). 2.6.4 Suitable lifting lugs for lifting the transformer filled with oil shall be provided on the tank. 2.6.5 Tank shall be provided with oil pressure relief device with trip & alarm contacts wired up to marshalling box. 2.6.6 Transformer shall be provided with detachable steel flanged wheels of suitable dia and suitable for moving transformer complete with oil. These shall be bi-directional and mounted on swivels which may be turned through 90 Deg. when the tank is jacked up and capable of being locked in position paralled to and at right angles to the longitudinal axis. 2.6.7 Tank cover shall be of bolted type and of adequate strength so as not to distort, when lifted. Suitable inspection cover shall be provided with lifting arrangements to give access to bushings, winding connections or testing the earth connections. 2.6.8 An adequate conservator tank complete with sump and drain valves shall be provided in such a position as not to obstruct the electrical connections to the transformer. 2.7 Terminal & Marshalling Box 2.7.1 Windings shall be brought out and terminated on outdoor bushings, cable box/bus duct chamber which will be located as specified on the datasheet. 2.7.2 All connections shall be sized to carry the maximum continuous current, (including overloads) and also the prospective through-fault currents. Test certificates or calculations shall have to be submitted for all main cable connecting boxes to confirm short circuit withstand capability. 2.7.3 Marshalling box Marshalling box shall have sheet thickness of minimum 2.5 mm, the degree of protection of IP55, where all the instruments/electrical equipments (like CT etc.) used in the transformer to be wired up to the terminal blocks. For auxiliary cable termination undrilled gland plates shall be provided at the bottom of the marshalling box for all external cables. These gland plates shall be separate from those used for the cabling interconnecting the on-skid auxiliary equipment.

One connection point for all auxiliary power requirements shall be provided for owner connection. Auxiliary supply voltage shall be as specified on the data sheets.

All contacts for remote alarm functions shall be potential-free and separately wired to a terminal block and numbered sequentially.

Indicating devices shall be visible with cabinet door closed. An internal light, controlled from a switch shall be mounted in the cabinet. All relays, switches, contactors, indicating lights and other devices shall be identified by nameplates. Internal labels shall be plastic laminate or equivalent, external labels shall be stainless steel, and have black letters on a white background engraved in the English language. Labels shall be secured by screws or rivets. Adhesive is not acceptable.

Terminal blocks and each end of all wires shall be identified with legible permanent labels marked to agree with the manufacturer's wiring drawings.

2.7.4

HV cable terminations For termination of incoming power cable, a cable termination box shall be provided for termination of power cable of the suitable size. For earthing of neutral point of star-connected transformers, a neutral bushing shall be provided for termination of earthing conductor of the suitable size.

2.7.5

LV Bus Duct (415V) Connections LV Side of the transformer shall be connected to the PCC through Bus duct A throat connection with flanges shall be provided for bolting to the bus duct. The supplier shall co-ordinate the bus duct to flange connection with the transformer manufacturer and bus duct manufacturer. For transformer having provision for TPN bus duct at 415V side, separate neutral terminal shall have to be provided. CTs shall be mounted on the neutral terminal which needs to be wired up to the TBs in marshalling box.

2.7.6

Space Heaters Adequately rated anti-condensation space heaters shall be provided in marshalling box to maintain inside temperature.

Space heater shall be strip type, rated for operation on 240 V, single phase, 50 Hz. A.C. supply unless otherwise specified.

Each heater shall be complete with a rotary type ON/OFF switch, HRC fuse in the phase, neutral link in neutral and a control thermostat.

2.8

Tap Changing Equipment (Off Load Tap Changer) The tap changer requirement (off Load) shall be as mentioned in the datasheet and with following characteristics : Tap changer current rating shall be minimum 1.5 times rated current capacity of transformer. Tap changing gear shall be complete with tap position indicator, limit switch, and padlocking facility. Off-circuit tap changers shall be arranged for positive snap action contact changing, such that an intermediate position between two (2) taps will not occur. Robust mechanical stops shall be provided to prevent overrunning. Tap changer unit shall be mechanically interlocked so that all three phases will operate together. Tap changer shall be with interlock switch (to generate a trip command to switchgear, while changing tap, in transformer energized condition). Operation of tap changer shall not require additional tools and shall be safe and accessible for the operator from the ground level. Tapping positions shall be clearly marked. The driving rod through the tank cover or tank wall shall be sealed to prevent leakage of gas or liquid under all service conditions.

2.9

Radiators 2.9.1 When radiators are fitted they shall be arranged in such a way that external cleaning and repainting can be carried out at site. 2.9.2 Radiator shall be detachable type and shall be provided with radiator isolation valves & blanking plate.

2.10

Current Transformers 2.10.1 Current transformers shall be provided as specified in the data sheets and located in their respective terminal boxes.

OIL FILLED TRANSFORMER 2.10.2 Current transformers core for standby earth fault protection shall be accuracy Class 5P20 and that for restricted earth fault shall be Class PS. The short circuit rating shall be in accordance with the requisition and single line diagrams enclosed. 2.10.3 CT terminals shall be suitable to connect 4 sq.mm. cables. 2.10.4 All current transformer leads shall be run in screwed, galvanised, heavy gauge, rigid steel conduit or steel wire armoured cable to terminal blocks (shorting type) located in a separate, dedicated terminal box. The terminal blocks shall be clearly marked designating the current transformer and phase. 2.11 Oil System 2.11.1 General Oil-immersed transformers shall be provided with filling hole and drain valve/plug for filling and sampling of oil. Mineral oil shall comply with IS:335.

2.11.2 Conservator Capacity of the oil conservator tank shall be such that it will amply cover the expansion of the oil volume of the transformer under the extremes of ambient temperatures and for all operating conditions specified. It shall be equipped with a sealed oil level indicator gauge. Conservator shall be provided with oil preservation system, which should be suitable either to remove moisture continuously from air entering the air space with which they are connected or may not allow direct contact of atmospheric air with oil during operation, in addition to silica gel breather. For this purpose, atmoseal bag shall be provided. At its lowest part, the oil conservator shall have provisions to collect and remove water and sludge. A breather shall be provided with a silica gel dehydrating capsule and an air lock. Conservator shall have two filter valves, first at the bottom of one end and the other at the top of other end. Oil gauge magnetic type shall be provided.

2.11.3 Insulating Oil Sufficient insulating oil of Napthenic type (made from Naphthenic crude) in which paraffinic content should be less than 50% and aromatic content 4 to

OIL FILLED TRANSFORMER 12% conforming to 4 BS: 148/IEC:296 class-2 shall be supplied for first filling of each transformer. Particular attention shall be paid to deliver the oil at site free from moisture and of uniform quality through out in non-returnable steels drums. Quantity of oil for first filling of each transformer shall be stated in Bid alongwith trade mark of the oil to be supplied. 10% extra oil of the total quantity of oil shall be supplied along with the transformer. 2.12 Use of inhibitors in oil shall not be resorted to.

Bushing Insulators 2.12.1 Transformer shall be fitted with bushing insulators (mounted within terminal box) as follows:LV-N Bushing: 1.1 kV class bushing of suitable rating but without arcing horns. HV Bushing:7.2 kV class bushing of suitable rating without arcing horns 2.12.2 The characteristics of the bushings shall be in accordance with IS: 2099 and IS: 3347.

2.13

Earthing 2.13.1 Transformer Earthing Safety earthing connections shall be provided to all metal parts and accessories. Connections by bolts only are not regarded as earthing connections. Transformer skids shall be provided with 2 earth terminals, located on opposite (diagonal) sides of the transformer. Each earth connection shall consist of a brass or stainless steel M10 bolt (minimum) with nuts and washers. Marshalling box & Terminal box shall be provided with separate earth terminals other than main body.

2.14

Finish 2.14.1 Transformer shall be cleaned, primed, and painted in accordance with Supplier's standard practice for the environmental conditions specified. Top coat finish shall be Supplier's standard unless otherwise specified in the data sheets. 2.14.2 Supplier shall supply paint, matching each colour used, for field touch-up after installation of the equipment.

OIL FILLED TRANSFORMER 2.14.3 The painting final shade shall be RAL 7036. 2.15 Equipment Identification 2.15.1 A stainless steel rating and connection plate, in accordance with the applicable standards, shall be fixed to a non-removable part of the transformer. Owner's name and purchase order number shall be included on the rating plate or alternatively a separate plate with this information shall be added. 2.15.2 Transformer shall be identified by a permanently attached stainless steel nameplate showing the item number and service title assigned to it on the datasheet. This nameplate shall be mounted next to the rating and connection plate. 2.15.3 Nameplate as a minimum shall give all the information about the transformer as per IS 2026 (Part I) viz: Type of Transformer Reference to IS 2026 Manufacturers name and serial number Year of manufacture Number of phases Rated kVA (for multi-winding transformers the rated kVA of each winding shall be given. The loading combinations shall also be indicated unless the rated power of one of the windings is the sum of the other windings.) 2.16

Transformer Protection and Measurements 2.16.1 Transformer Protection Transformer shall be provided with winding temperature and oil temperature protection. Conservator shall be provided with Buchholz protection devices for the main conservator.

Protection equipment shall include potential free change-over contacts for alarm and trip purposes. Minimum 1 spare potential free change-over contacts of each protection and alarm shall be provided. These potential free change-over contacts shall be wired to marshalling box.

2.16.2 Transformer Measurements Transformers shall be provided with a hot-oil temperature indicator. The indicator shall be a dial-type calibrated in degrees Centigrade and fitted with 2 adjustable setting contacts, for remote alarm and trip purposes. Furthermore, a hand-reset pointer to register the highest temperature attained is to be foreseen. Location shall be such that top oil/liquid temperature can be measured even when the transformer is in cold condition. Magnetic oil gauge (MOG) shall be provided at the conservator of transformer to indicate the level of oil. MOG shall include potential free change-over contacts for alarm purposes. These potential free change-over contacts shall be wired to marshalling box. Minimum 1 spare potential free change-over contacts shall be provided. These potential free change-over contacts shall be wired to marshalling box. 2.17 Transformer Preparation for shipment Unless otherwise specified, transformers shall be shipped fully filled with oil and ready for connection. In case it is not possible to ship transformer as one assembly, the radiators shall be disconnected and shall be sealed and filled with nitrogen. The oil shall be shipped in suitable drums and marked in accordance with IEC 60296, section 4. Proper instructions shall be provided for assembly, filling and preparation for commissioning. 3.0 INSPECTION AND TESTS 3.1 Routine Test 3.1.1 Routine tests listed as per IS 2026 (Part I) shall be conducted. Such tests may be witnessed at the discretion of the Owner. 3.1.2 The routine tests shall include the following: Measurement of winding resistance Measurement of voltage / turn ratio and check of voltage vector relationship Measurement of Impedance voltage / short-circuit impedance (principal tapping) and load losses. 3.2 Type Tests3.2.1 Type test certificates for similar transformer (Same voltage and Capacity) shall be produced for all type tests as mentioned in latest IS 2026 / IEC 3.2.2 Following type test certificates shall be submitted with OFFER. i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi. vii. viii. ix. Chopped impulse voltage test. Short circuit withstand test. Temperature rise test Acoustic noise level measurement Tank Vacuum test Tank Pressure test. Measurement of harmonic level in no-load current. Pressure relief device test. IP 55 test on marshalling box, pressure relief device enclosure, Buchholz relay, magnetic oil level gauge and all junction / terminal boxes. 4.0 ACCESSORIES All dial-type indicating devices shall be easily read from base level. Supplier shall submit list of spares recommended by him for satisfactory operation of the circuit transformer for first two (2) years and rate for each spare shall also be quoted. The owner will decide the actual quantity of spare parts to be ordered on the basis of the prices of the spare parts, quoted by the bidder. 6.0 DRAWINGS & DOCUMENTS The Supplier shall furnish drawings in accordance with SDDC form, enclosed with the Bid.
