SHEARWALL DESIGN FOR AXIAL & FLEXURE LOADS

---- 1921.6.6.3 :
For Pu<0.35Po :
BOUNDARY ZONES AT EACH ENDS OF LENGTH 0.25LW TO 0.15LW
The boundary zone shall have minimum length of 0.15lw and shall be detailed in accordance with
Section 1921.6.6.6.
&
For Pu>0/35Po :
WALL SHALL NOT BE CONSIDERED TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE CALCULATED
STRENGTH OF THE RESISTING EARTHQUAKE INDUCED FORCES.
(SUCH WALLS CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENT OF SECTION 1621.2, ITEM 4)

Minimum ratio of vertical reinforcement area to gross concrete area shall be:

1914.3.3:
Minimum ratio of horizontal reinforcement area to gross concrete area shall be:

NOTE :
1914.3.4. Walls more than 10 inches (254 mm) thick, except basement walls, shall have reinforcement
for each direction placed in two layers parallel with faces of wall in accordance with the following
1.One layer consisting of not less than one half and not more than two thirds of total reinforcement
required for each direction shall be placed not less than 2 inches (51 mm) or more than one third the
thickness of wall from exterior surface.
2.The other layer, consisting of the balance of required reinforcement in that direction, shall be placed
not less than 3/4 inch(19 mm) or more than one third the thickness of wall from interior surface.
