ONfinity CM2 Interactive Whiteboard System

Frequently Asked Questions / Trouble Shooting Guide

1. When I plug the CM2 into the USB port for the first time, a new hardware device is found and it prompts to install the
drivers. It then asks to install a second set of drivers. Is this normal?
Yes. In order for the CM2 to function properly, two sets of drivers need to be installed. The first drivers are USB high speed serial
converter and the second set is the USB serial port driver. Refer to pages 6, 7, and 8 of the instruction manual for more information.

2. During installation of the driver software I get an error message “error with .exe file”. What do I do?
The following trouble shooting steps are recommended. Make sure the CM2 installation disc is inserted into your computers disc
drive.
My Computer>Right click the ONfinity CM2 logo in devices>Explore>Right click the ‘Setup Launcher’ and choose
properties>Choose ‘Compatibility’>Choose ‘Compatibility mode’ (tick box) and Windows 98/ME>Click Apply>OK>Double click
ONfinity CM2 logo in My Computer under devices.
Install software as per booklet.

3. My computer has 4 USB drives; do I have to install the software drivers on each port?
Yes. In order for the CM2 unit to function properly it is advised that the drivers be installed on each USB drive on the PC. In order
for the CM2 to function, the driver software must be installed on each USB drive it is connected.

4. Do I have to use the supplied tripod to mount the CM2 whilst working with a projector?
No. The system will perform just as well if it is placed on top of the data projector or to the side on a table. The CM2 unit is angle
adjustable for height.

5. Does the CM2 unit have to be square on to the projection image?

No. Actually the system works better if slightly off to the side as no ‘shadow’ will be cast if working directly in front of the image. If
the presenter is right handed, then position the CM2 to the right of the projection image or to the left if left handed.

6. Do the red beams have to be exactly in line with the projection image?
No. Just as long as the beams are somewhere near the bottom of the image the system will work fine. The red beams may be also
wider or shorter than the projection image.

7. I have mounted the CM2 to the ceiling upside down with the button facing downwards. How do I configure the red beams?
This will work fine with the CM2. Position the two red beams above the projection display.

8. Do I have to calibrate the unit every time I use it?

No. Unless the CM2 or projector has been moved the system will not need calibrating. If you are using it as a portable system you
will have to re-calibrate each time the unit is set up.

9. Calibration has been lost for some reason and I cannot re-calibrate the first green dot. What has happened?
This could be one of two things. Check that the CM2 is still connected to the USB drive of your computer, it may have come out.
Also check that there is not direct strong light shining on the projection image. Re-start the ONfinity software and make sure you
hear 4 distinct beeps after you have re-connected the CM2.

10. Whilst using a laptop I get an error message saying that there is a ‘Power surge on the USB drive’ and the computer won’t
let me connect the CM2.
Some laptops are designed to limit the USB port current in order to maintain longer battery life. Make sure that there is at least one
hour worth of battery life remaining or plug in the laptops power cord. To override this error message go to Start>Control
Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager then Click on the USB Controller. Click on the controller, then Advanced, select "USB
not report error to me". Select USB hub, then power management, and select "not allow computer to close the USB port for power
saving".

11. How do I start the ONfinity Virtual Board software?

Go to Start>All Programs>ONfinity Interactive Whiteboard>Virtual Board.

12. I want to do a lot of writing using the Virtual Board software, the wand is quite difficult to write with. Is there an alternative?
Yes. There is an optional stylus E-Pen available for purchase. This works as either a pen or a mouse in the same way as the
extendable E-Pen but is in the style of a normal pen and has a pressure sensing nib for clear and easy writing. For the stylus E-
Pen to operate as a pen it must come into contact with the projection surface and light pressure needs to be exerted.

13. I want to uninstall the drivers from my USB port. What is the easiest way to do this?
Unplug the CM2’s USB cable from the USB drive and insert the CM2 driver disc into the CD drive of your computer>Go to My
Computer>Right click on the ONfinity CM2 logo in devices>Double click on the ‘Drivers’ folder>Double click on the ‘Uninstall
program for FTDI drivers’>Click continue. The drivers will now be uninstalled.
