8XT Coaxial Enclosure

Description

The 8XT cabinet is the most compact model of the L-ACOUSTICS® coaxial range
and operates on a frequency bandwidth of 65 Hz to 20 kHz. This response can be
lowered to 32 Hz with the addition of the SB118 subwoofer.
The 8XT enclosure contains a 1.5’’ diaphragm compression driver coaxially-loaded
(for HF directivity control) by an 8’’ low frequency transducer in a bass-reflex tuned
enclosure. The internal passive crossover network uses proprietary third order
filters. The linearization and protection of the transducers is defined by the drive
parameters contained in the LA4 amplified controller.
The coaxial transducer arrangement produces a 100° axi-symmetric directivity
output along with a smooth tonal response free of any secondary lobes over the
entire frequency range.
The wedge-shaped cabinet design makes the 8XT perfectly suited to all multi-
purpose sound reinforcement applications with two fixed angle settings of 30˚
and 40° (with regard to the vertical). Made of high grade Baltic birch plywood, the
cabinet also features a pole mount socket. The complimentary ETR8-2 bracket is
also available for flown applications.
The 8XT is controlled and amplified with the L-ACOUSTICS® LA4 controller in
the following modes:
• ‘‘FULL RANGE’’ mode for standalone use of 8XT at nominal bandwidth
([8XT_FR], [8XT_FI] or [8XT_MO] presets)
• ‘‘HIGH-PASS’’ mode with 100 Hz high-pass filter to possibly associate the
complimentary SB118 subwoofer ([8XT_FR_100], [8XT_FI_100] or
[8XT_MO_100] presets)

• ‘‘HYBRID’’ mode for hybrid configurations featuring

the complimentary SB118 subwoofer ([8XT_SB118] preset).
For each mode a distinction is drawn between [FRONT], [FILL] and [MONITOR]
presets as they respectively match front of house, distributed applications and half-
space loading operating conditions.
The performances of the 8XT enclosure depend upon the choice of preset and
physical system configuration.

XT Coaxial Range

The XT coaxial range delivers a complete sound reinforcement solution

intended to fulfil the highest demands of audio professionals. Drawing
upon decades of real world leading edge experience dating back to the
MTD coaxial concept from 1987, the XT series delivers the ultimate sonic
performance in a compact and versatile multi tasking package.
The XT coaxial loudspeakers meet the highest demands from both the
fixed installation and rental production markets. The system range and
components are as follows:
• 8XT full range passive compact enclosure
• 12XT full range active / passive enclosure
• 115XT HiQ active reference floor monitor
• LA4 and LA8 amplified controllers.
The main advantages of coaxial technology include single point-source
radiation combined with excellent phase response, total wavefront
coherency at all frequencies, and axi-symetrical directivity which
produces identical coverage patterns in both the horizontal and vertical
planes. The coaxial design also provides LF/HF superimposed dispersion
characteristics that are free from polar lobing effects which are destructive
in traditional horn and woofer combinations. The end-result is natural
studio monitor sound quality which is ideal for both proximity monitoring
use, or perfectly matched for semi-reverberant environments. The XT
coaxial range features the latest generation of transducers and cutting-
edge electro-acoustics engineering design. The end result is an outstanding
sonic performance with an aural sensation of natural and transparent
sound even at the highest listening levels.
Setting up XT enclosures is quick and easy due to the unique integrated
flying hardware system which ensures precision, safety, and full
compatibility with current rigging safety standards. Its compact and
wedge-shaped format makes the XT range equally suited to various
sound reinforcement applications such as front of house, floor monitor
and distributed systems.
The XT range has been designed for use with the LA4 amplified controller
(LA8 for 115XT HiQ). On board the LA4/8 a wide variety of presets are
available across the entire XT range which provide the sound designer
with total creative freedom for any conceivable application in theatre,
clubs, concert halls, broadcast and multipurpose facilities.
As well as delivering cutting edge audio quality, the LA4/8 amplified
controller offers unique dual transducer protection system, precise system
drive engine, and remote EQ and tonal balancing features. A single LA4
can power up to eight 8XT or four 12XT enclosures. A single LA8 can
power up to four 115XT HiQ. In addition, for more demanding low-end
reinforcement the SB118 subwoofer can be deployed as part of a 3 way
system.
Any XT configuration can be acoustically and mechanically modelled with
the proprietary L-ACOUSTICS® SOUNDVISION 3D simulation software.
The XT software predictions are modelled on the preset parameters of
the LA4/8 amplified controller.
In addition the design of complex and sophisticated control systems is
made possible on the LA4/8 by the integration of an Ethernet based
network capability which allows for the simultaneous networking of up
to 253 units. The L-ACOUSTICS® LA NETWORK MANAGER software
offers remote control and monitoring of the amplified controllers via a
user-friendly and intuitive graphic interface.
