LUMACAD Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Central Mindanao University, Musuan, Maramag, Bukidnon, October 2013 Adviser: PILAR V. DOMAGSANG, RN, MAN Premarital sex is practiced excessively in the world today. As the generation grows, the issues about premarital sex grow also. The study aimed to explore the premarital sex experiences of college students at Central Mindanao University during the school year 2013-2014-1st semester which will be our basis for our health teachings in sexually transmitted disease, teenage pregnancy, and abortions. The theory of Erik Erikson about Psychosocial Development was used and anchored to support the study. The respondents of this study are 16 years old and above, who are more sexually active nowadays. In which adolescents move towards constant journey to maturity and self-awareness. The research study utilized the descriptive qualitative method. The respondents were identified as potential participants for this study through purposive sampling which is particularly snowball sampling, as follows: College of Agriculture=5; College of Engineering=2; College of Home Economics=2; and College of Arts and Sciences=1. There were six (6) females and four (4) male participants. The data of the participants were gathered using a survey questionnaire, a one-on-one interview protocol, and observation presented in mean, frequency, ranking, percentage distribution, and narrative form. Results revealed that most of the participants have an average age of 20 years old for females and 23 years old for males. Most families earn a high monthly income of 11,000 php and above. The participants were predominantly reared by authoritative parents. Such parents were particular in: caring too much for their education, teaching about household chores, talking to them first and making them explain their side before giving approval of our plans, and were responsive to their needs and feelings. The onset of premarital sex was early as 15-19 years old particularly with older partners and occurred in the sixth (6) month of the relationship. Sexual contacts usually done 1-3 times a week, were very alarming due to not using any protective measures except for using condoms. Sexual activities were usually done in lodging houses during evenings. The participants were characterized as curious, spiritually conscious, independent, and sexually active. However,

they were not rebellious, attention seeker or not, weak or not weak, and have low self-esteem. The common activities engaged in were: Watching movies with their boyfriend/girlfriend; Watching TV teleseryes; and Dating/Group Dating. The premarital sex experiences were predominantly influenced by: peers (inability to refuse from their boyfriend/girlfriend), family relationships includes strict parents, media (watching Filipino teleseryes, watching sex videos in cellphones, and reading bold pocketbooks and magazines.), and limited or lack of information on sex education. These factors are influential to the premarital sex experiences of the students. It is recommended that parents must practice diverse parenting styles for every child is individually unique. School administration must teach lessons about the impact of having pre-marital sex and know the significance of being aware of the sexual behaviors of the students that will be the basis for the appropriate interventions in the school to decrease the prevalence of premarital sex. Government should have implement programs as such behaviors to reduce the students presence in such uncertain places and thereby promote school participation. Researchers will conduct formal seminars and proper health teachings for adolescents about sex educations topics like: sexually transmitted diseases, teenage pregnancy, and abortions should be done. With this, they may able to impart the knowledge also about sex education to others and also to themselves as well.
