Hickey Freeman Co., under new ownership, began laying off more than 100 workers
on Thursday, according to a union official. Employees began receiving letters
notifying them of the layoffs while the Rochester plant has been idled for the
summer, said Gary Bonadonna Jr., manager of Regional Joint Board of Workers
United, the union that represents workers at the high-end men's apparel
manufacturer.

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC

Daimler Trucks North America plans to phase out its Detroit Diesel parts distribution
center in northeast Ohio over the next 12 months and eliminate 190 jobs. The
company told employees about the move on Monday in Canton. Daimler Trucks, part
of German auto maker Daimler AG, blames the closing on the economic downturn
and calls the decision part of an ongoing repositioning.

Lear Corporation

Lear Corp., the Michigan-based automotive parts manufacturer, plans to close its El
Paso distribution warehouse and lay off 155 employees. Lear notified the Texas
Workforce Commission last week that it plans to complete the layoffs by October at
the warehouse at Loma Verde Drive on the far East Side. General Motors and Ford
are among Lear's largest customers. Both companies have closed factories and laid
off thousands of workers. Positions being lost include an accountant, senior quality
engineer, human resources administrator, information technology positions,
materials specialists, maintenance manager and warehouse workers.

Industrial firm Tomkins today said it planned to cut a further 1,600 jobs this year as
it slid into the red for the first half of 2009. The fresh cull comes after a slump in
demand for cars and heavy equipment which has already seen 3,900 employees go
across the firm.

Cummins, Inc.

Cummins Filtration has announced plans to move 400 jobs at its Lake Mills plant to a
factory in Mexico. The division of diesel engine manufacturer Cummins Inc.
announced Tuesday its oil and fuel filter assembly operations in Lake Mills will be
moved to San Luis Potosi, Mexico, beginning in November. Officials say 400 workers
at the plant in Winnebago County will lose their jobs between November 2009 and
March 2010. Other operations at the Iowa plant, and about 110 people that run
those operations, will remain.

The auto parts maker announced that it is eliminating 145 salaried positions at its
complex in Buena Vista Township. The company said it has reduced its salaried work
force there by 341 positions since Jan. 1. The 145 employees affected this week
were placed on temporary layoff until their positions are reduced, which will occur
Sept. 1. Delphi filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2005. Delphi expects to
exit bankruptcy by Sept. 30.

Metaldyne Corporation

Auto parts manufacturer Metaldyne will shut its chassis factory in Whitsett, costing
144 jobs. The Michigan-based company, which filed for bankruptcy in May, sold a
number of facilities to MD Investors Corp. this month, but the new owners did not
need the factory at Rock Creek Center and so it will be closed, said Marge Sorge, a
Metaldyne spokesperson. The timeline for the plant's closure will be based on
customer demand as its capacity it shifted to other facilities, she added.

Assurant Specialty Property will cut 325 jobs by next January in its Santa Ana and
Tustin hazard service centers. The Atlanta-based insurer will move the work to
service centers in Georgia, Ohio and South Carolina. Another 200 jobs, however, will
remain in Orange County, said James Sykes, company spokesman.

Accenture Ltd. said it plans to cut 336 senior-level executive positions, according to
media reports. The layoffs total about 7 percent of Accenture's 4,800 senior
executives.

Hexion Specialty Chemicals, Inc.

Hexion Specialty Chemicals has expanded its cost-cutting measures, saying it plans
to eliminate about 1,300 jobs at locations around the world as it tries to restore
profitability after another quarter of losses. At the Columbus headquarters, the head
count will remain about 280, said spokesman Peter Loscocco. Some local jobs have
been cut, but local hiring has offset those cuts.

Bankrupt Milacron Inc. said that it will cut 130 positions, or about 10 percent of its
work force, across its North American operations. According to a report in Plastics
News, the company said the layoffs "were made to size our business appropriately
for current business levels."

Parsons Corporation

As part of the Army's progress toward closure of the Newport Chemical Depot, this
week depot officials announced the impending layoff of approximately 180
employees. The workers affected by this reduction, which will be effective in
September, are employed by Parsons Corporation, the Army contractor that built,
operated and now is dismantling the facility where more than 1,200 tons of chemical
agent VX was destroyed.

Rochester Board of Education

The Rochester Board of Education is laying off more than 100 teachers but spared
dozens of other school jobs that had been targeted for cuts. The board voted 5-1 to
layoff 130 teachers, from elementary school to art, physical education and special
education. Some 40 music teachers, school psychologists and social workers had
their jobs spared by board members who voted against cutting those positions.

University of Florida

The University of Florida is laying off 11 faculty members and 49 staff members.
University spokeswoman Janine Sikes said Monday the jobs are being eliminated as
part of the university's $42.2 million in budget cuts to address reduced state funding.
The UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences is cutting 20 staff positions while
the College of Journalism and Communications is eliminating 17 positions, including
14 at its broadcast stations. Faculty members are receiving a one-year notice and
staff members are getting 45 days notice.

U.S. automaker Chrysler's former financial services provider Chrysler Financial is
planning to dismiss 350 employees, equal to 9% of its workforce. It will also close a
customer service center in Overland Park near Kansas City by the end of August
2009. The firm, fully owned by Cerberus Capital Management, is restructuring its
operations as it is facing a time of credit restrictions and weak car sales.

A construction slump in Portland has resulted in a 50 percent cut in the staff of the
city's Bureau of Development Services. The Oregonian reports that the agency plans
to shed about 150 of its 300 employees by Oct. 1, more layoffs and at a faster pace
than expected. The bureau reviews plans, issues permits and inspects construction
on everything from new skyscrapers to new bathrooms in private houses. Its funding
comes from fees paid by developers and homeowners.

The state began delivering written layoff notices to about 1,100 state employees who
previously were notified their positions could be eliminated because of the budget
crunch. Gov. Linda Lingle said the layoffs are needed to drive down the cost of
government as the state continues to contend with a projected $786 million budget
shortfall over the next two years.

Nebraska's largest city will layoff city employees and cut police programs to help deal
with a projected $5 million budget shortfall. Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle announced the
cuts Friday morning. His cuts include axing 130 city jobs and suspending the police
helicopter operation. It would also suspend the November police recruiting class.

Notices went out to 255 full-time state employees whose positions were being
eliminated effective Aug. 28 because of anticipated budget cuts. Of the 10 agencies
seeing personnel cuts, the Revenue and Agriculture departments will be hardest hit.
Revenue is seeing 85 of its 2,144 workers cut, and Agriculture is losing 57 of its 630
employees. At this point, layoffs are limited to the executive branch.

Unanticipated expenses and a drop in revenue have forced the Crow Tribe lay off 200
people. Kayle Howe, the tribe's personnel director, says the layoffs do not affect
employees who are paid with federal money, and essential services will continue.

Almost 300 Cincinnati city workers are being told they're out of a job. Of those, 87
part-timers likely will be dismissed immediately or soon, said Meg Olberding,
spokeswoman for City Manager Milton Dohoney. The more than 200 full-time
employees will not. Some of the contracts under which they work require 30 days'
notice, she said, keeping them on their jobs until next month.

Mayor Dave Bing delivered a tough, sobering message: "nobody's protected" from
layoffs given the city's precarious finances including his appointees as well as police
and firefighters. The mayor wouldn't say when these cuts will occur but told
reporters that nearly 1,000 pink slips to other city employees have already gone out
and will take effect by Sept. 26.

employees next month as the state and a private contractor seek to revamp services.
The reshuffling of services will affect thousands of people suffering mental health

The governor plans to turn over a binder to the legislature's Joint Budget Committee
outlining the 100 cuts he plans to include in an executive order on Sept. 1. Ritter has
told lawmakers that his plan will include the elimination of up to 266 state employees,
and cuts to medical programs and prison services. The governor has the authority to
make the cuts and he does not need legislative approval.

Maryland officials are notifying more than 200 workers that they are being laid off as
Gov. Martin O'Malley works to close a $740 million budget gap. Officials say they'll

Kindred Healthcare filed a notice with Florida's Agency for Workforce Innovation that
it intends to lay off 573 employees statewide. The cuts would come from its
Peoplefirst Rehabilitation division, which helps patients at Kindred's clinics and
rehabilitation hospitals. The layoffs will take place Oct. 1. Eighty-nine of the job
losses are in South Florida. That comprises 29 in Pompano Beach, 20 in Sunrise, 20
in West Palm Beach, 10 in Boca Raton and 10 in North Bay Village, near Miami Beach.
Other offices scheduled for layoffs are in St. Petersburg, Tampa, Orlando, Bradenton,
Bartow, Panama City, Gulfport, Plant City, Fort Walton Beach, Spring Hill,
Jacksonville, Sanford, Clearwater, Lakeland, Winter Park, Cape Coral, Sarasota,
Tarpon Springs, Lake Wales, Avon Park, Titusville, Deland, Clermont, Hudson, Fort
Myers and Winter Haven.

Kaiser Permanente disclosed plans to eliminate 1,200 jobs in Northern California,
citing uncertainties over the economy, federal health care legislation and shrinking
reimbursements for Medicare. The jobs will be eliminated in the Bay Area, the
Sacramento region, and the Central Valley area south to Fresno, Kaiser spokesman
Jim Caroompas said. All 1,200 of the positions are unionized. Jobs were eliminated at
most of Kaiser's medical centers, the health care organization said.

Analog Devices, Inc.

Chipmaker Analog Devices Inc. of Norwood will shut down its Cambridge
manufacturing facility next month, at a cost of 120 jobs. Spokeswoman Maria
Tagliaferro said the job cuts were the result of a previously announced plan to
consolidate production at Analog's Wilmington plant. Analog Devices is a major
producer of specialized chips that convert sound or vibration into digital data and
that are found in a variety of motion-sensitive devices, such as automobile airbags
and the handheld controller for the popular Nintendo Wii videogame console. The
micro-electrical-mechanical sensors, or MEMS chips, use the motions of tiny silicon
"fingers" to detect sounds or movements. In automobile airbag systems, the chips
detect the shock of a collision and deploy the bag. Analog Devices has also
developed a MEMS chip for use as a microphone in low-cost electronic devices such
as cellphones.

Bobcat Co., which makes skid-steer loaders and light construction equipment,
announced that it will cut 195 jobs at its three North Dakota sites due to slow sales.
Bobcat laid off about 250 workers earlier this year and idled plants for part of June
and July. Bobcat was started as Melroe Manufacturing more than 60 years ago by
two brothers who ran a machine shop and wanted to help turkey farmers clean their
barns. It is now owned by Doosan Infracore International, a subsidiary of South
Korea-based Doosan Infracore. The company has a network of more than 3,500
dealers worldwide and 20 manufacturing plants in the U.S., Europe and China.

Siemens Energy & Automation Inc. has laid off 103 of the 480 employees at its
Norwood plant. The layoffs affect 29 salaried and 74 hourly employees. The Norwood
facility assembles and tests large electric motors used in industrial and factory
automation.

About 600 jobs will be lost in Calgary after Haworth Inc. announced Tuesday that it's
consolidating its Calgary manufacturing operations to west Michigan. The layoffs will
take place over the next few months and throughout 2010 "due to excess capacity as
a result of the global economic environment," stated Haworth, which designs and
manufactures office furniture and workspaces.

Sanford Corp., the company that owns Parker Pen and other writing-instrument
brands, said it will close its Janesville operation early next year and lay off about 153
workers. In order to improve efficiencies, Sanford said it will move its manufacturing
and distribution operations from Janesville to Mexico. Administrative functions will be
shifted to other facilities, but primarily the one in Oak Brook, Ill.

Crosstown Traders and Arizona Mail Order Co. continue to reduce the size of their
Tucson operations, laying off 50 and 120 employees, respectively, according to layoff
reports filed with the state under the federal Workers Adjustment and Retraining
Notification Act.

Albertsons plans to close four Florida stores and lay off more than 300 employees.
Albertsons, based in Boise, Idaho, notified the Florida Agency for Workforce
Innovation of the layoffs, effective Oct. 21. In all, more than 300 people will lose
work if the chain is unable to move them to another store. About 80 people work at
the Brandon Square store. Other closures are in Lee County's Bonita Springs and
Estero. The Lake Worth store is also closing.

Bashas' said it plans to lay off 102 workers from two Tucson-area stores. On Aug. 10,
the Chandler-based grocery chain announced it was seeking bankruptcy court
approval to close 14 stores. It indicated 300-plus Bashas' workers would be affected
statewide.

Vistakon said Wednesday that it will be laying off 180 employees. The Jacksonville-
based subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, which produces Acuvue-brand contact lenses,
restructured its contact lens business amid increased competition. Employees will be
cut from quality assurance and global supply chain divisions, said spokeswoman Lez
Cunningham. The last working day for the affected employees will be Oct. 2.

ADC Telecommunications, Inc.

ADC Telecommunications Inc. said it will cut more jobs than expected in its latest
restructuring, including 55 jobs in Minnesota. The Eden Prairie-based maker of
telecom industry equipment now plans to cut its workforce by 350 to 400 people
worldwide, an expansion from the 100 to 130 figure previously announced in June.
The new total represents about 4 percent of ADC's total workforce. The earlier job
cuts announcement affected Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Now ADC is
expanding the cuts elsewhere, including 55 jobs in Minnesota.

Neustar Inc. is increasing the number of layoffs related to the reorganization of its
instant messaging division. The Sterling-based communications services company
said it would cut up to 120 more employees from its Next Generation Messaging
business segment in addition to 51 cuts made in the fourth quarter of 2008.

Virginia International Terminals, Inc.

Virginia International Terminals Inc., the tax-exempt affiliate that operates the
marine terminals and inland port of the Virginia Port Authority, announced that it is
laying off 90 employees, or one-fifth of its work force, because of falling revenue and
container volume.

Delta Air Lines, Inc.

Delta Air Lines Inc., the world's biggest airline operator, is planning to cut more
management and administrative jobs, but isn't saying how many, according to a
recorded message and a memo from top executives. Chief Executive Richard
Anderson said in a recorded message to employees Thursday that Delta has seen its
revenue stream decline by billions of dollars because of the weak economy and the
drop-off in demand for air travel.
