Introduction
Welcome to eRacer, a high octane GT car racing arcade game designed to be played on or off line. Take up the gauntlet against seven competent computer controlled opponents in the off-line championship. Build up your driving skills; unlock new, more challenging tracks and more powerful cars as you progress. Register at the eRacer website and compete on-line in the ultimate multiplayer competition. Form teams with friends and challenge other players to become the best of the rest. Look out for new tracks and cars to download from the eRacer website at http://www.eracer-online.com As a result, some cards may produce unpredictable results. Check the eRacer support web site for advice, and your card manufacturers web site for newer drivers. Please ensure you have the latest drivers available for your graphics/sound card. These should be available on the web sites of the respective manufacturers.
Installation
Minimum System Specification
Intel Pentium II300 Mhz or equivalent DirectX 7 Compatible 3D Graphics Accelerator card with at least 8 Mb of onboard RAM 2x CD-ROM drive 300 MB HDD Install space A 16-bit stereo sound card compatible with DirectX 5 or above Mouse, keyboard Windows 95OSR2, 98SE, WindowsME or Windows 2000 64 Mb of RAM is the minimum; the game will take advantage of more. If you suffer from prolonged loading periods try de-fragmenting your hard disk using the Microsoft de-fragmentation tool. This can be accessed from the start menu by selecting Run, typing defrag and pressing b. You can also reduce loading times by having a permanent swap file on a separate physical drive to the drive that the game is installed. Changing the configuration of the Windows swap file should only be undertaken by advanced users. At the time of going to press, not all graphics card manufacturers have ensured that their cards are properly compliant with DirectX 7.
Uninstall
To remove eRacer from your PC, go to the Start Menu and select: <Programs><Rage Software><eRacer><Uninstall eRacer> Follow the on screen instructions. This will remove all of the eRacer game files from your hard drive. It will not, however, delete any Saved Game or Replay Files which will be left in the directory you originally installed to. If you wish to remove these files, go to the directory you installed to, select all the files and hit m or drag and drop them in to the Recycle Bin.

Select the required skill level. Amateur Mode Less competitive opponents, and a top four finish will see you through to the next round. Complete the championship at this skill level to unlock the bonus track. Professional Mode Test your skills against highly skilled opponents. You must finish in the top two to progress to the next round. Complete the championship at this skill level to unlock the bonus car.
Championship Rounds
Each driver starts the championship with 30000 credits (Cr). All of the 13 championship rounds take place on different tracks. To enter a race each driver must pay an entry fee, the sum of which makes up the available prize money. Your race grid position is determined by your position in the championship. For example if you are first place in the championship your grid position will be 8th, conversely if you are in last position in the championship you will start in 1st place on the grid.
Arcade mode allows you to set up quick races using any of the cars you currently have unlocked on any of the tracks that are currently unlocked. Use arcade mode to practice the tracks in a competitive environment before progressing in the championship or before going on-line. Select the customise race option to change the difficulty setting, number of race laps and number of computer controlled opponents. Use the customise player option to change your player name, car type, car colour and horn. At the arcade menu select the required track to race using the left and right controls. Press b to begin the arcade race on the selected track. The top five best lap times and driver names are recorded and displayed for each of the tracks.
At the end of a race if you finish within the top three you will be given some prize money depending on your finishing position. In addition you must pay for any damage sustained to your vehicle during the race. Car damage can become expensive so be careful during the race.

Traction control is not available on these cars. It is up to you to ensure you use the correct amount of throttle, to achieve maximum acceleration whilst minimising wheel spin. When the car is wheel spinning you are not achieving optimum acceleration. To combat wheel spin simply ease off the throttle until the wheel spin stops and then re-apply the power. Although wheel spin looks great, it can cost you several seconds. Avoid it! Every car is equipped with a handbrake. Applying the handbrake will lock the rear wheels of the car. With the back wheels locked you can spin the car round quick by steering. The handbrake is useful to negotiate tight hairpin bends quickly. The length of time you apply the handbrake for is crucial, too little and you wont make the corner, too much and you may oversteer. Beware also that the handbrake turns will drastically reduce the speed of your car. Use it only when necessary.
Analogue modems are most prone to latency. Using ISDN or ADSL or any other broadband connection will drastically reduce latency and enhance your on-line gaming experience. The Internet game servers will arbitrate and always reflect the true result of a race. Because of latency or modem stalls, some race results may not reflect what you saw on the screen. The Game Server will always calculate the actual result based on race times. When playing on-line you may race on tracks that you have not yet unlocked in the championship. It is advised that you unlock all the championship tracks and practice them before going on-line. This will give you an advantage over less patient on-line gamers.
Troubleshooting
Driver Problems
The problem you are most likely to encounter will be related to drivers, which allow the game to make optimum use of your systems resources. In particular, video games are most influenced by Microsoft DirectX drivers which are responsible for various aspects of your system including video, sound, controller, input, 3D graphics functions, CD ROM access and other functions. If you do experience problems, always ensure that you are using the latest DirectX drivers (the most recent version at time of publishing is V8.x). If you experience problems with the installation or compatibility of DirectX 8 on your machine, please consult the hardware manufacturers of your video or sound card. You may also want to check Microsofts Web page (www.microsoft.com/directx) for further information.
Championship
As you progress through the championship and unlock new cars and tracks it becomes apparent that some cars are more suited to certain tracks. Take care when selecting your car for a certain track. When a new track is unlocked, save the championship and practice the new track using the Time trial and Arcade modes. This will give you an opportunity to learn the circuit layout and master the racing line before continuing the championship. The cost of damage repairs soon mounts up. Drive carefully to maximise your credits score.
On-line
Minimise Internet latency by connecting to game servers with the smallest ping times.
Performance Problems
Performance can be improved by selecting lower screen resolutions and reducing the texture detail setting in the eRacer

configuration program. In addition, the Options->Details menu, which is present in the game will allow you to toggle certain graphical features. Switching these features off will not affect the gameplay but should improve frame rate on lower end PCs and graphics cards.
representatives, or alternatively visit our website at http://www.rage.com where the majority of common problems and solutions will be displayed. When you contact our support line, please try to have information about your PC configuration available, together with a detailed description on the problem you are experiencing. If at all possible, try to be seated in front of your computer. Our representatives will endeavour to structure their instructions according to your level of PC competency, but it may not always be possible to avoid technical jargon. Always have a pen and paper ready to take down their instructions. Email: support@birm.rage.co.uk
CD Rom Problems
Make sure that the CD ROM disk is in the drive, with the label facing upwards. The CD ROM disk must be in the drive to install the game. Ensure that the CD ROM disk is free from any markings or scratches, which may interfere with normal operation. If the disk requires cleaning, gently wipe the surface with a dry, non-abrasive cloth. If at any time the disk vibrates excessively in the drive, remove the disk immediately and return it to the retailer to be exchanged. The disk may be defective and prolonged use could damage the CD ROM drive.
Sound Problems
Make sure that your speakers or headphones are plugged into the correct socket, and that the volume control is at an appropriate level. If you are using powered speakers, ensure that the power is on. If you continue to experience problems, ensure that the Volume Control taskbar icon (depicted by a small yellow speaker) is present. Double clicking on this icon will open the Volume Control window. Make sure that all of the controls are set at an appropriate level and that the Mute feature is not enabled. If you experience strange effects on the in game sound, try switching it from 2D to 3D or 3D to 2D as the card and its drivers may function better in the other mode.
