be proclaimed with a loud voice as we approach the great final test. This test must come to the churches in connection
with true medical missionary work." We are told that in time of trouble "there will be sick ones, plenty of them, that will
need help" so because of the need, but also "for their own sake, they should, while they have opportunity, become
intelligent in regard to disease, its causes, prevention and cure, and those who will do this will find a field of labor
anywhere."

Why Medical Missionary Work?

prepare the way for the introduction of present truth... Said my Guide, "Educate, educate, educate." The mind must be
enlightened, for the understanding of the people is darkened. Satan can find access to the soul through perverted
appetite, to debase and destroy it.
Medical Ministry, p. 240. Ministers, do not confine your work to giving Bible instruction. Do practical work. Seek to
restore the sick to health. This is true ministry. Remember that the restoration of the body prepares the way for the
restoration of the soul.
2. It breaks down prejudice.
9 Testimonies, p. 211. As a means of overcoming prejudice and gaining access to minds, medical missionary work
must be done, not in one or two places only, but in many places where the truth has not yet been proclaimed. We are to
work as gospel medical missionaries, to heal the sin-sick souls by giving them the message of salvation. This work will
break down prejudice as nothing else can.

breaks down prejudice and opens the way for the truth to go with power In new fields no work is so successful as
medical missionary work.

3. To reveal the love of God. (Matthew 4:23,24)
Ministry of Healing, p. 19. During His ministry, Jesus devoted more time to healing the sick than to preaching.
Ministry of Healing, p. 20. The Saviour made each work of healing an occasion for implanting divine principles in the
mind and soul. This was the purpose of His work. He imparted earthly blessings, that He might incline the hearts of
men to receive the gospel of His grace.
Medical Ministry, p. 238. The right hand is used to open doors through which the body may find entrance. This is the
part the medical missionary work is to act. It is to largely prepare the way for the reception of the truth for this time.

of release from suffering. It is the pioneer work of the gospel. It is the gospel practiced, the compassion of Christ
revealed. Of this work there is great need, and the world is open for it.

Christ Object Lessons, pp. 233, 234. Christ's servants are to follow His example. As He went from place to place, He
comforted the suffering and healed the sick. Then He placed before them the great truths in regard to His kingdom
This is the work of His followers. As you relieve the sufferings of the body, you will find ways for ministering to the
wants of the soul. You can point to the uplifted Saviour and tell of the love of the great Physician, who alone has power
to restore.
Medical Ministry, p. 320. In every place the sick may be found, and those who go forth as workers for Christ should
be true health reformers, prepared to give those who are sick the simple treatments that will relieve them, and then pray
with them.
Medical Ministry, p. 320. few can take a course of training in our medical institutions. But all can study our health
literature and become intelligent on this important subject.
Ministry of Healing, p. 127. Pure air, sunlight, abstemiousness, rest, exercise, proper diet, the use of water, trust in
divine power,--these are the true remedies. Every person should have a knowledge of nature's remedial agencies and
how to apply them. It is essential both to understand the principles involved in the treatment of the sick and to have a
practical training that will enable one rightly to use this knowledge.
2 Selected Messages, p. 294. The Lord has given some simple herbs of the field that at times are beneficial; and if
every family were educated in how to use these herbs in case of sickness, much suffering might be prevented, and no
doctor need be called. These old-fashioned, simple herbs, used intelligently, would have recovered many sick who have
died under drug medication.
Medical Ministry, p. 230. If we neglect to do that which is within the reach of nearly every family, and ask the Lord
to relieve pain, when we are too indolent to make use of these remedies within our power, it is simply
presumption.God works and man cooperates with God.if we understand the nature of those roots and herbs, and
make a right use of them, there would not be a necessity of running for the doctor, so frequently, and people would be in
much better health than they are today.
Spalding and Magan Collection, p. 137. To educate the human family that the doctor alone knows all the ills of infants
and persons of every age, is false teaching, and the sooner we as a people stand on the principles of health reform, the
greater will be the blessing that will come to those who would do true medical work. There is a work to be done in
treating the sick with water and teaching them to make the most of sunshine and physical exercise. Thus in simple
language we may teach the people how to preserve health, how to avoid sickness.This is true science.
Healthful Living, p. 225. There are many ways of practising the healing art; but there is only one way that Heaven
approves. God's remedies are the simple agencies of nature, that will not tax or debilitate the system through their
powerful properties. Pure air and water, cleanliness, a proper diet, purity of life, and a firm trust in God are remedies for
the want of which thousands are dying; yet these remedies are going out of date because their skilful use requires work
that the people do not appreciate. Fresh air, exercise, pure water, and clean, sweet premises are within the reach of all
with but little expense.

Counsels on Health, p. 524. Medical missionary work is in no case to be divorced from the gospel ministry. The Lord
has specified that the two shall be as closely connected as the arm is with the body. Without this union neither part of
the work is complete.
Evangelism, p. 514. (Teaching health) will be an agency through which the truth can be presented to the attention of
unbelievers. They will reason that if we have such sound ideas in regard to health and temperance, there must be
something in our religious belief that is worth investigation.
Loma Linda Messages, p. 63. Henceforth medical missionary work is to be carried forward with an earnestness with
which it has never yet been done. This work is the door through which the truth is to find entrance to the large cities, and
sanitariums are to be established in many places.
