ANTI-MUSLIM SENTIMENT; BEYOND THE SEEING EYE

Written by nobody Please note that you have neither read this article nor received it from anybody

Suddenly Halal has become poison, Burka a taboo, NoLimit a sex shop.. and the list continues. Is this a part of the anti-Muslim waves in Western world approaching Sri Lanka? OK, lets keep the anti-Muslim sentiment a side for the time being. Have you ever thought why. the Silvas Duminda, Mervin, Malaka. are so desperately protected by the government proxies and not only the government, but even some top notches in the opposition love them so much? Shirani Bandaranayake was so suddenly ousted from the helm of SC..? A little unfavourable decision on a low-priority bill..!!! Will that be a reason for the regime to go through such tough game to expel the Lady da Chief de Law..? .KP and Karuna are given VVIP care.... Is it the gratitude for passing LTTE secrets..? or is it the gold, ships and money in banks that KP is said to have elsewhere? Or is it something else? Let me take you to the early 80s. The country was rocking on wild open economy. It was an era signified by the extradition of mostly innocent and rich Colombo Tamils and the emergence of Money Mint of the new world, Illegal Drugs; fast moving into and through Sri Lanka. Those who are from Dehiwala, now in their 50s and 60s may well-remember the name Lord Maujun. A Muslim Tycoon, resided in Anderson Road, Nedimala, was the first to build up an empire in Sri Lanka on drug business and was known as the King of Heroin. He gave an example to many drug kings to emerge in the following three decades that money can do anything, irrespective of how one earns it. The business was passed into many hands; mostly (or entirely) Muslims; in the late 80s and early 90s. In parallel, outside the country, an international empire of drugs was being built by those expelled Tamils, now no more innocent. Most of them had seed money, network and most importantly a motivation to make money. By late 2008 the international activities of these Tamil groups were hitting the skies.

In 2009, the Tamil world was shattered together with their massively profitable drug business. However, the same business in the hands of Muslim community was intact in Sri Lanka almost unaffected. OK, Now we will move to another dimension. A well formulated theory of a very close proxy of a former president in Sri Lanka states that in order to rule the country indefinitely, one needs to satisfy only 5000 people per Million. Thus, for 20 million, one needs to take care of only 100 thousand or one lakh in more popular counting system in Sri Lanka. What does the above mean? Select 100,000 people in the country; politicians from parliament to village councils: both pro and anti government, celebrities: singers, actors, sportspersons, clergy (there are celebrities among clergy in the country now), academics etc., underworld: thugs, criminals, smugglers, rapists etc., trade union leaders, top notched police officers, heads of military, civil servants and finally the most important of all, the media people. Feed them with lots of financial gains, sex (wherever it is applicable), power for corruption and ruling the subordinates. This 100,000 will talk for you, cry for you, scream for you, play for you, alter for you, change for you, wash for you, paint for you and finally get the votes of the public for you. Whatever agonies and hardships that the masses go through; your 100,000 will make sure that the public will vote for you, due to two critical reasons. Your 100,000 will make sure that; - there will be no suitable alternate in the country (opposition) to replace you - the public mindset will be a whirlpool with various ideologies so that they will only have illusions and dreams to live with; zero analytical thinking. It was the Presidential Election 2009, which made many things turning upside down. Until such time nobody gave a significant thought of the above theory, which was formulated a couple of decades back. In my opinion, two things took place in connection with this election which would not have happened. In the first place, SF would not have contested for the election. Secondly, Sri Lankans would not have voted in such great numbers for SF. The president commanded his forces, to win a war which had been wagging for 30 years. It is fair for any such leader to expect uncontested re-selection by his people in an election held immediately after the war. Unfortunately, there was an unexpected strong contestant who gave a really tough time for

MR. And as many people in the inner-circles whisper, the election was won by SF by a thin margin but both MR and RW made sure that the results were something else. This gratitude-less attitude of the Sri Lankan public may have changed the total mind set of the Rajapaksha family. Soon we found that they were dusting off the 100,000 theory and putting that into practise. Now comes the interesting part. How does the government feed this 100,000 indefinitely? One way is letting the set of 100,000 rob the wealth of the country. At the bottom of the ladder the local authority MPs and their henchmen are allowed to do illegal timber cutting, sand mining, collecting forced money or kappam from local businessman (even from prostitutes in several parts of the country), collecting money unlawfully (in the name of a certain fee; without a receipt) from public for providing services such as electricity, water, telephone etc., and so on. In the medium level (MPs, Ministers and their henchmen), the feeding takes place in the form of huge commissions from the government contracts. However, many MPs and Ministers practice what is meant for ladder bottom parties, as well. In the top layer millions of dollars are siphoned from the loans taken for so called mega projects from foreign lenders. More than 50% of the majority of Chinese loans goes to the pockets of VVIPs. All these methods have their limitations. There are no unlimited resources in the country. Money available for robbing from the public thins down as the masses become poorer. Sooner or later the loans will dry up (already happening). Thus, there was a need for a steady long-term income. And here comes the drug-business in to the picture. A majority of SL public still believe the story that Sri Lankan intelligence has captured KP in the lobby of a hotel in Malaysia, drugged him and brought him to Sri Lanka in a Thai government arranged special flight. This is a good for Bollywood Cinema but not for the present-day reality. There is no reason at all why Malaysian or Thai governments support an illegal act of a third country (rather insignificant) by risking their international reputation. KP was the in-charge of 6-7 ships that belong to LTTE. By 2008, they were earning nearly a billion USD per year by drug and human trafficking. KP may have sensed the imminent down fall of LTTE in the near future thus tried to

make his own fortune. He may have played a big role in the downfall and final extinction of LTTE top guns. After the fall of LTTE regime in Sri Lanka, KP may have encountered a tough situation. In anywhere in the world ground level drug traffickers have no ideological motivation. They only work for money. Thus the staff of the fleet of ships (and land bound operators as well) that was working for KP needed him as the boss for his valuable contacts though which he does smooth operation. On the other hand KP was pumping the money comes from the business to the ideologically driven LTTE cadres that protected him from international legal net. The demise of LTTE chief and his close proxies weakened the strength of the organization to protect KP from laws of many countries that he was involved. At the same time KP could not betray the still ironic LTTE and freely operate in open space. He may also have foreseen that he could not reach his drug godfathers in Sri Lanka (which used to be his business hub) that easily with no-war for a cover up. Then, KP took the best decision that he could; surrendering to the Sri Lankan leaders who were also craving for big time money. KP may knew that it is much safer to operate under their wings and still get some good share. KP did not have his own ships, gold or bank savings. If he had, by now KP is in history. Instead he had a huge operational network. A world-wide crew who were ready to work for him for money; with or without LTTE. There were few hiccups in the ground operations as few of his regional heads were somewhat loyal to the original LTTE aspirations. Then Karuna, who was surviving so far by revealing hidden LTTE wealth in Sri Lankan soil (and was running out of his luck by then), got a new life. He came forward to pacify those LTTE loyalists. The business was going on for some time without much hype. Then the Rajapaksha regime understood that they were not gaining profits as much as they want. The biggest hindrance was the Muslim Godfathers in Sri Lanka who were running most of the local and buyer-end business (the operational network of this business is a complex story). The Silvas were small-time dealers worked for these tycoons. Rajapakshas were getting money from KPs share but they knew that an even bigger chunk is there in the hands of the Muslim Tycoons. Apart from money, it is not the Rajapkasha policy to let anyone in Sri Lankan

soil to do something beyond their full control. The Silvas were their pets who do anything and everything for them while getting the dogs share. However, the Muslim underworld was so strong that only the regime alone could not wipe them out. Furthermore, forcible ousting of these strongholds from the business may have serious boomerang effects on the regime as the Muslims could destroy everyone altogether by revealing so many secrets in courts. Note that the drug dealing is liable for capital punishment in Sri Lanka. Even for Silvas and all top notches in the regime this is too much of a risk to take. By the advice of a certain brain, the regime launched two pronged approach to cope up with this situation. The first step was to eliminate the CJ whom the regime thought of being loyal to them initially. Then appointing someone who do anything for them so that there will be no risk from the legal framework in the event of an unexpected revelation. One part of this game ended in favour of the regime. But the other part is going in the wrong direction. The bar association and the majority of the law practitioners are swimming against the tide, at the moment (cant predict for how long). The second was to destroy the existence of Muslim business community in the country by triggering a people upraise. At the moment the regime is playing a very shrewd game. At any given time different people of the regime give different views on the situation; some imply that they try to put water on the fire while some throw petrol openly. On the other hand, any given person in the regime tells different things at different times; again water and petrol at different occasions. The final outcome they expect is an utter hatred among Sinhala Majority against Muslim Businessmen. Finally when the Muslim Drug-Godfathers will either be eliminated or brought to the law, the Sinhala Public will say that the regime has done wonders. If the convicted reveal the names of big guns in the regime (as fellow drugdealers) the masses will say that they tell lies to get the revenge from the regime for taking them to sword. At the moment, it is too complicated to predict where and when the regime will end up their journey.
