appropriate entries on DA Form 2404 and correct any deficiencies, and observe environmental considerations. Given a demonstration, a training site, POL, a TWDS, DA Form 2404, a GO/NO GO checklist, a hands-on practical exercise, and TM 10-4320-303-13. In accordance with TM 10-4320-303-13.

Standards:

Safety Requirements

1. Exercise extreme care and safety in handling the TWDS. Carelessness in handling the system could result in damage to the equipment and injury to personnel. 2. When handling equipment, always remove rings, bracelets, wrist watches, and any other jewelry prior to working with the system. Jewelry can catch on equipment and cause injury or may short circuit across electrical circuits and cause burns or electrical shock. 3. The exhaust system on the pump engine can become very hot during operations. Be careful not to touch it with bare hands. 4. The radiator also gets extremely hot during operations. Let it cool down before checking fluid. 5. To prevent injury, be careful not to short out the batteries on the pump. Do not smoke or use open flames near batteries or fuel tank. 6. To prevent air compressor assembly from rolling or sliding, securely lock the parking brakes. 7. Do not operate engine around open fuel. 8. Never refuel hot or running engines. Avoid overfilling the fuel tank.

9. Wear hearing protection when within 50 feet of operating air compressor. 10. The hypochlorination unit weighs over 200 pounds. At least four people are needed to lift it to prevent personal injury or damage to the equipment. 11. Hypochlorite solution is toxic to skin and eyes. If calcium hypochlorite comes into contact with skin or eyes, flush right away with water. Seek medical help. 12. Store calcium hypochlorite in a cool, dry place. Keep container closed. 13. Do not allow calcium hypochlorite to mix with any other materials, such as fuels, oils, paint products, or ammonia. This may cause fire or hazardous gases. Mix only in accordance with directions for use. 14. The hypochlorinator contains water under high pressure during and after operation. If this pressure is not relieved before working on the unit, serious injury may occur. 15. If hypochlorinator stops working properly or residual test does not give satisfactory reading, immediately shut down operation of distribution point, notify your supervisor, and take corrective action. 16. Portable radios will be required for communication and safe set-up.

Risk Assessment Level Environmental Considerations

Low - Medium

Army Regulation 200-1 delineates TRADOC responsibilities to integrate environmental requirements across DTLOMS and ensure all training procedures, materials, and doctrine include sound environmental practices and considerations. The Army's environmental vision is to be a national leader in environmental and natural resource stewardship for present and future generations as an integral part of all Army missions. This Training Support Package meets this standard. Refer students to the Student Evaluation Plan. The ability to shut down the TWDS hose line, combined with the ability to lay out and operate the TWDS hose line, is essential for the water treatment specialist when utilizing the TWDS hose line to store, distribute, and transport potable water.

a. Shut down pumps. If boost pumps are operated in manual or electric manual mode, monitor pressure at suction ports. Allow the first boost pump to operate until the suction pressure falls to 20 psi. At that time, manually decrease engine speed. When suction pressure reaches 10 psi, shut down pump. Isolate the pump assembly from the hose line by opening the butterfly valve on the bypass system and closing the butterfly valves on the suction and discharge hoses. Repeat procedure with each down line pump. 1) Manual mode. a) Turn MANUAL THROTTLE clockwise to fully in position. b) Let engine idle 2 or 3 minutes. c) Push engine switch left to OFF position. The engine will shut down. d) Turn FUEL RACK handle counterclockwise and release. 2) Electric manual mode. a) Turn ELECTRIC SPEED CONTROL counterclockwise to idle position.

12

b) Let engine idle 2 or 3 minutes. c) Push ENGINE SWITCH to OFF position. The engine will shut down. d) Turn FUEL RACK handle counterclockwise and release. 3) Electric automatic mode. a) Turn ELECTRIC SPEED CONTROL counterclockwise to idle position. b) Let engine idle for 2 or 3 minutes. c) Push ENGINE SWITCH to OFF position. Engine will shut down. b. Perform after-operations PMCS. 1) 10-mile hose line segment flaking box. a) Inspect all frame seam welds for damage. b) Inspect lifting clevises and clevis attach brackets for cracks, bends, or broken seam welds. c) Inspect tailgate assembly, side walls, and base for damage. d) Equipment is not fully mission capable if seam weld is damaged, lifting clevis or clevis attach bracket is damaged, or tailgate assembly is damaged. 2) Pumps. a) Exterior--Leaks. b) Engine. SUMMARY Method of Instruction: Conference / Discussion Instructor to Student Ratio is: 1:18 Time of Instruction: 0 hrs Media: Group-paced Instruction

Review / Summarize Lesson

The following key points were discussed within the lesson unit: a. Shut Down TWDS Hose Line Pumps b. Perform After-Operations PMCS c. Maintain Reports/Logs/Forms

Check on Learning

Determine if the students have learned the material presented by soliciting student questions and explanations. Ask the students questions and correct misunderstandings. 1) When shutting down the pumps on the TWDS hose line, how long should you allow the first boost pump to operate before manually decreasing the engine speed? (Until the suction pressure falls to 20 psi.) 2) How do you isolate the pump assembly from the hose line? (By opening the butterfly valve on the bypass system and closing the butterfly valves on the suction and discharge hoses.) 3) When performing after-operations PMCS on the TWDS hose line, what components should be checked or inspected? (10-mile hose line segment flaking box, pump exterior, pump engine, pump control panel, pump fuel tank and gauge, and pump trailer chassis.) 4) When maintaining reports/logs/forms after operation of the TWDS hose line, what should be recorded on DA 1714-R? (All operations data, such as chemical dosages and pressure and flow gauge readings.)

SECTION V.

STUDENT EVALUATION NOTE: Describe how the student must demonstrate accomplishment of the TLO standard. Refer student to the Student Evaluation Plan.

Testing Requirements

The student must score a GO for each item on the GO/NO GO checklist to receive a GO for the practical exercise. The student must meet the requirements of this lesson by achieving a passing score on the End of Annex Examination. NOTE: Rapid, immediate feedback is essential to effective learning. Schedule and provide feedback on the evaluation and any information to help answer students' questions about the test. Provide remedial training as needed.
