Christ the King Mission Statement
The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

Baby Bottles for Life

The Council of Catholic Women will be distributing baby bottles the weekend of January 11 & 12. You can put your spare change (bills & checks are also welcome!) into the bottles and return them the weekend of January 25 & 26. All money will be given to Womans Choice Services in Lombard. This endeavor supports Right to Life and gives much-needed counseling to pregnant women and new mothers.

I Have a Bean!!!
Thats right--- I Have a Bean is the program that will be presented at the next Council of Catholic Women meeting on Monday, January 20, at 7:00pm in the Parish Life Center. Pete Leonard began this local coffee roasting company which is located in Wheaton. They roast coffee beans which are rated in the top 1% in the world! I Have a Bean also has a great social cause. The company hires people who have felony convictions on their record to help transform the lives of former offenders. Come hear Pete Leonard tell the story of the work and the workers of this company while sampling their delicious coffees. A good way to warm up on a cold winter night!

Have You Noticed the New CDs in the Narthex?

Week #5 - The Healing Power of Confession Dr. Scott Hahn presents the historical and biblical origins of the Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation). He provides an important guide for new Catholics, a source of renewal for "old hands", and a challenge to all of us to deepen our relationship with Christ through regular use of the Sacrament of Penance. Parishioner Comments This is an outstanding talk on Confession that cuts to the heart of this great Sacrament of Mercy. Father Joseph Baltic, CT This helped me to better understand scripturaly why confession is so important, and it gave me a desire to go to confession more often. I want to pass this information on to others. Steven - Jasper, IN JOYFUL AGAIN! RETREAT: Joyful Again! is a two-day program for widows and widowers who want to resolve the grief they feel inside and begin to live again after the death of their spouse. The weekend employs a series of video presentations, followed by facilitated small group discussion and private reflection time. Through this process, individuals gain new insights and receive encouragement and support. Trained facilitators, who have been widowed themselves, help with the weekend and the discussions. The next weekend will be on March 8-9 at Our Lady of the Angels Retreat Center in Lemont. For more information, to register, or for other dates and locations, please contact Charlotte Hrubes at (708-354-7211) or check the web at www.joyfulagain.org.

Living the Eucharist by Paulist Evangelization Ministries Lent 2014

Foundations of Faith New Evangelization Class Monday, January 6, 2014 7pm in Parish Life Center
As Catholics, we have received a baptismal calling to holiness and to evangelizationthat is, to spreading the Good News of Jesus. Some of us are called to help teach the faith, or to catechize those whove heard and accepted Gospel; but all of us are called to help propose--or re-propose--Christ to those we encounter on a daily basis. This evening is great for parents and catechists. Eileen Maggiore will be presenting this topic as an instructor for the Office of Lay Ministry Formation from the Diocese of Joliet. Please RSVP to Sherry at sherry@ctklombard.org or Eileen at Eileen@ctkombard.org.

Living the Eucharist is a parish renewal program that will be offered to all parishioners this Lent season. Small groups will gather weekly for 6 weeks during the Lenten season. There is something for adults, teens and families. The weekly gathering will be 90 minute session reflecting on the Sunday readings and other topics each week. This is our 3rd year in offering this program. If you have not joined a small Christian community before and would like to join, we welcome you to give it a try. Contact Eileen Maggiore at 630-3966076 or email Eileen@ctklombard.org.

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
Today we remember the three wise men from the East who came to pay homage to the infant Jesus, bringing him rich gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The gifts we bring our time and service and some share of what we earn for the work we do are equally precious in His sight.

Bequest
Street Address:______________________________

A charitable bequest is one of the easiest ways you can leave a lasting impact on our parish. Benefits of Your Bequest Receive estate tax charitable deduction. Lessen the burden of taxes on your family. Leave a lasting legacy. How Do You Make a Bequest? A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to family, friends or a charity as part of your estate plan. Your Bequest Options A bequest may be made in several ways: Gift of a percentage of your estate Gift of a specific dollar amount or asset Gift from the balance or residue of your estate Making a Bequest of Your Retirement Assets A retirement asset, such as an IRA account, makes an excellent bequest to us. If the IRA were given to your family, much of the value may be lost through estate and income taxes. By designating a charity as the beneficiary of all or part of your IRA (using a beneficiary designation form provided by your custodian), the full value of the gift is transferred tax-free at your death and your estate receives an estate tax charitable deduction. Please contact the CTK Business office, if you are interested. Fr. Peter

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

We would like to offer a hand crocheted or knitted prayer shawl, cape, or laprobe to anyone in the parish who needs to send one to a dear one struggling with life's loss or illness. The shawls are lovingly made so that your loved one may be wrapped with the allencompassing love of Mary, the Mother of Mercy and Care; and God, the Father of Faithfulness, Healing, and Love. At our meetings on Wednesday from 1:00-3:00 PM in the East Room, we will support you through our prayers for restoring health and healing to your loved ones. In the church narthex, there will be a sign with instructions posted to request a prayer shawl. Bonnie Venezio's e-mail address is: rbvenezio@comcast.net and we will either e-mail or mail you a Request Form.
