Dear Dr. Kohn, The following is material in support of my interest in the current vacant position of the Everett School Board. I am a resident of Mill Creek and attended Everett Public Schools beginning in elementary school and ending at Everett Community College. Four generations of my family have benefited from this same school system. Along with me, my wife and children all graduated from Cascade High School. My early education prepared me for undergraduate business studies at the University of Washington and a Masters degree from Seattle University. With the encouragement of leaders committed to community service my banking career has developed along parallel lines. At Columbia Bank I am the Bank's specialist for non-profit and municipal finance. Nonprofit clients include private schools such as Bellarmine Preparatory School, Annie Wright School, and Hamlin Robinson School. Other clients are social service agencies, scientific research firms, churches and full service retirement communities throughout Puget Sound. Municipal clients are school district, public hospital, cities, counties and other special service districts primarily outside of the major metropolitan community of Seattle and in all parts of Washington. The two groups of clients are similar in that they are directed by boards whose members have been entrusted with community assets and provide governance over the missions of their organizations. I provide the finance tools along with Board experience to build and sustain community infrastructure. My work at the Bank grew from my interest in board leadership. Since 1998 I have taken particular interest in two organizationsWellspring Family Services and Wesley Homes. Wellspring Family Services is a King County agency started in 1892 providing therapeutic services to homeless families and children and has the only therapeutic pre-school in Seattle. It partners with University of Washington and researchers interested in early childhood development along with the effects of poverty on growth and learning. As a long term board member I served as the chair of finance, audit, board development, fundraising and facilities committees as well as serving as the organizations board chairperson. This work lead to interaction with all of the major social services agencies committed to work on the 10 year plan to end homelessness in Seattle, Board membership in the Executive Alliance (a peer Executive Director State-wide organization) and leadership within Seattle Rotary. Wesley Homes is a Methodist organization providing a continuum of care for seniors throughout south Puget Sound with almost 1,000 residents on two campuses. The physical condition, mental well being and financial resources of seniors in our communities will become a major focus of concern for all communities in the very near future. I currently Chair the Wesley Foundation Board as it seeks to raise $42,000,000 from several communities to build new senior campuses. I feel well prepared to step into the vacated position on the Everett School Board. My background in board governance and my respect for a board's fiduciary responsibilities have shaped a collaborative leadership style

focused on achievement and sustainability. As a resident within the District I have supported every operations and maintenance levy put forward by the District and believe in ongoing capital spending to improve and modernize school facilities. Bond finance, budgeting, capital allocation, and building community support are the skills that have grown through both my career and community work. I would like to use these skills as a contributing member of the Everett School Board.
