DLF Foundation Partners with India Food Banking Network on 'World Food Day'
Efforts towards making India a hunger-free country
LF Foundation has partnered with India Food Banking Network on 'World Food Day' Seminar and Facilitation of companies participating in the food drive held at Shangri-La Hotel, New Delhi. The Honourable Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology, Shri Sachin Pilot graced the occasion where DLF Foundation was awarded as the mission partner of the unique initiative.
Foundation also provides infrastructural support to Food Security Foundation. Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Rajender Singh, CEO of DLF Foundation said, DLF Foundation expresses a great satisfaction on the success of the Food Drive initiated by India Food Banking Network with the support of all its partners. DLF Foundation's partnership with the Delhi Government's Bhagidari programme - 'Aapki Rasoi', is another such initiative like Food Drive where we provide free mid-day meals to around 300 homeless disabled people at a temporary hutment site at India Gate every day. Further elaborating the DLF Foundation's contribution, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Rajender Singh added, Over 1,600 children, who are engaged in activities like rag picking, working at roadside dhabas or as domestic servants and never had the opportunity to attend school, now get a healthy cooked mid-day meal along with free education. This also helps in maintaining high retention levels in our educational initiatives. We understand there is much more to be done consistently to make India a hunger free nation and the Foundation will continue to render its support to such great initiatives.
The Food Drive Challenge during the World Food Week (October 5-12, 2012) successfully attained its main objective of '100,000 individuals raising 100,000 kilos of food for 500,000 Meals'. It is an effort to eliminate the ever existing difference between food demands and supply which is the key to the rampant hunger and malnutrition in our country with a quarter of the world's hungry and a third of all malnourished children living here. DLF Foundation, along with Indian Food Banking Network, runs the food bank in Gurgaon which is the first Food Bank in the country. DLF Foundation stores the food items donated by corporates from food related business in the country and distributes it to the underprivileged population of Delhi-NCR region. The
