Bayaning Pilipino–South Korea Awards 2009
Introduction:

The Gawad Fr. Glenn Giovanni Jaron Bayaning Pilipino-South Korea Awards is an annual affair
spearheaded by SULYAPINOY publication and the Filipino EPS Workers Association (FEWA) to pay
tribute to outstanding Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) and Filipino Communities who have
significantly rendered exemplary services and helped promote Filipino values and culture to various
communities in South Korea.

Criteria for Individual Awards Category:

1. Promoting Filipino Migrant Welfare


He/She has compassion for fellow OFWs.
He/She gains respect in the community.
He/ She has started and/or continued some commendable projects for OFWs.
He/ She has the capacity and ability to defend the rights of the migrants.
His/Her contributions are highly recognized by the community.

2. Promoting Filipino Values


He/She is involved in some religious/church activities.
He/She shows exemplary deeds by not committing any criminal records and moral misconduct.
He/She inculcates Filipino values among the members of the community like love of God and family.
He/She shows respect and concern to either members or non-members of the community.
He/She possesses the good qualities and values of a true Filipino.

3. Promoting Leadership and Unity


He/She leads community projects that promote unity and camaraderie among the members.
He/She organizes/participates group activities like conferences, trainings and workshops, recreations,
and sports.
He/She attends and supports activities and projects of other Filipino communities
He/She motivates and inspires the members to fight social injustices.
He/She unselfishly shares time, effort, talents and resources for the community.

4. Promoting Education and Social Awareness


He/She participates in some community assembly, seminars and conferences
He/She organizes initiatives to educate the community about their labor and social rights, livelihood
programs, and financial planning.
He/She helps disseminate and explain information about social and labor issues.
He/She actively promotes the significance of education in community growth and development.

5. Promoting Culture and the Arts of the Philippines


He/She promotes programs that provide rooms for understanding cultures and traditions between
Koreans and Filipinos.
He/She participates into activities like cultural performances, folk dancing, TV dramas, stage plays or
singing OPM songs.
He/She participates in art exhibit events showcasing Filipino cultures and traditions through visual or
graphic arts.
He/She shares knowledge/information about Philippine culture and the arts to other foreign
communities in South Korea thru newspapers, TV and radio programs, and websites.
He/She holds programs which encourage Filipinos to share talents and skills in cultural performances.
Criteria for Community Awards Category

1. Outstanding contribution to benefit the Filipinos in South Korea and in the Philippines.
2. Significant accomplishments of some community projects in promoting Filipino values education
and Christian faith.
3. Invaluable recognition of the Philippine culture and the arts by the foreign community.
4. Active participation in social gatherings, conferences, and summit in developing social
consciousness and involvement.
5. Meritorious contribution in valuing human rights, unity, and nationalism.
6. Effective programs for continuous education concerning Korean labor and language, social and
personal opportunities applicable to all Filipino migrant workers.

Rules in Submission of Entry Nominees

1. Any individual or organization whether Filipino or foreigner in South Korea may submit nominations
for the awards.
2. Previous years’ Bayaning Pilipino-South Korea Awards winners in the group
category may be re-nominated while previous years’ nominees in individual
category who were actually not recipients of the awards are only allowed for renomination.
3. Names, addresses, contact numbers, profile of the nominees - both individual and group (must
follow given profile format), and testimonials must be emailed to SULYAPINOY email address:
editorialstaff@sulyapinoy.org
4. Awards, citations, publications, news articles, photos of activities and other supporting documents
may also be included.
5. All nominations should be received on or before Otober 31, 2009.

Awarding Ceremonies

The 2009 Gawad Fr. Glenn Giovanni Jaron Bayaning Pilipino-South Korea Awards will be held in
December 27, 2009 in Seoul [venue is yet to be decided]. The awards ceremony is in line with the 2nd
year founding anniversary of SULYAPINOY Newsletter, the official publication of the Filipino EPS
Workers Association (FEWA) in South Korea.
