GIZ IS in India

In addition to the German Federal Government, GIZ also works on behalf of international organisations, governments, foundations and companies with worldwide operations. Projects for these clients are carried out in the business area GIZ International Services (GIZ IS). GIZ IS started its activities in India in 2006, with its portfolio concentrated on projects with international donors. Through its results and partner orientated work combined with a deep understanding of the Indian ground reality, GIZ IS now has a diversified portfolio. It has become a reliable partner of the Indian National Government and State Governments to achieve the sustainable development goals in the region. GIZ IS is represented in India through its Branch office in New Delhi. Currently there are 69 international and national staff working for GIZ IS in India to support the ongoing projects and acquisitions. Activities in India focus on vocational education, corporate social responsibility, environment and energy, but extend across the full range of themes covered by GIZ. Projects are currently being implemented throughout the country on behalf of the European Commission, Indian state governments and international companies.

The services delivered by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH draw on a wealth of regional and technical expertise and tried and tested management knowhow. About GIZ in India


Germany has been cooperating with India by providing expertise through GIZ for more than 50 years. To address Indias priority of sustainable and inclusive growth, GIZ works jointly with many Indian partners in almost all states in the country. Key Funding German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) commissions the majority of activities at GIZ in India, as well as other German ministries [e.g. Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU)], the European Commission, the United Nations and the World Bank, and private enterprises. GIZ provides high quality advice and capacity building. In India, it focuses on the following sectors: Energy Supporting energy efficiency in power generation and its consumption. Exploring and main streaming renewable energy options to mitigate carbon emissions. Sustainable Economic Development
Financial Systems Development Improving outreach of Indian financial institutions in rural areas, developing mechanisms for safe and rapid fund transfer and advancing consumer education on use of financial services. Private Sector Development Promoting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in India, encouraging regional economic development in selected sectors and enabling small and medium enterprises to increase their competitiveness. Social Protection Developing innovative social security solutions, particularly for the poor and disadvantaged focussing on health and pensions.
